Move mate. Just do it. Fuck, I'll even chip in a tenner to the move costs.

Just get the fuck away from there.

Lost for words Michael, really am. Can't imagine how you are feeling just now, your head must be upside down.

I'd be in a murderous rage right now if it were my car.

Those two cunts should be strung up by the balls,

then slowly lowered in an industrial woodchipper!

As others have said, you would really have hoped that by the age of 29 people would have grown out of this kind of moronic shit.  Words fail me, they really do.

Wow, Mike. Just wow. So sorry.

Saddest thing is that, really, nowhere is safe. No, hang on, saddest thing is that only invisible cars are safe. If your Mk2 Astra had been a 59 Focus they wouldn't have bothered.

No, hang on, even sadder is that, there's a strong chance they were interested in cars, and correctly thought joyriding a rare old car would be more rewarding than caning a stolen Focus (though I'm sure relative ease of theft was a factor).

I really am not impressed by society at the moment.

Mike, I really hope this is countered by a sudden run of good luck.

They caused merry hell, torched the lovely Astra and are now out on bail?! It almost seemed a waste of time bothering to lift then in the first place. 5 minutes with them in restraints and a cricket bat would have given far more satisfaction at least.

That you as the victim of a pointless theft have now to stump up for the damage that pair of degenerate arseholes is appalling and just goes to show how fucked up the insurance and legal systems are.

It's a bloody tragedy and I'm deeply saddened it's happened to you of all people.

The mind boggles... What the hell goes through the mind of a 29 year old that says 'I know we'll steal a car and burn it out in some woods'

Trig, it's a horrible thing that's happened. I know you're worried about it happening again, but the likelihood of 'lightning striking twice' as it were is low. Don't let the bastards rob you of your hobby and happiness as well as your car.

That's really shit Trigger, saw this on Practical Classics Facebook earlier in the week and hoped it wasn't yours.

We got our car randomly vandalised last weekend and I'm fucking livid about that but it pales into insignificance compared to what you've been subjected to.

Don't give up, or they've won.

Part of me is amazed by how well the car done, it put up with 5 hours of being thrashed, crashing into stuff, playing chicken with a lorry and doing handbrake turns and burn outs everywhere, those 25 year old original tyres held up well, i couldn't go to work without the fecker cutting out on me (the slow idle jet had a habit of clogging up with sand) and then there's these two shitbags managing to keep it going through all that, wheres the Justice in that!

I don't think I'll be bothering with a old daily driver again, it's just not worth the grief, I'm getting mum's Fiesta on the 11th, that will do for work, anything else will be kept locked away from thieving scum. Hopefully my old car mojo will come back again soon once my bitterness is over with but for now I can't really be fucked with it all TBH.

Just caught up with this sad news. Gutted for you.

What strikes me is just what an enormous pair of losers they must be.

There is no doubt that our society is broken.  I have no idea what the answer is.

Stop teaching kids that we're descended from animals or swampy rocks and therefore don't have to answer to anyone or anything.

Children grow into adults that don't believe they are accountable or responsible for anything because they come to the conclusion that ultimately life is meaningless.

Society is reaping the results of its own self-determining self-indulgent moral shift.

Jus' sayin'.

Ps this sucks. I had one of my cars (relatively lightly) vandalised and that annoyed me severely enough...

I'm now a car down and will have to get lifts to work, we had Nancys first baby blanket, my hoodie, all my car club merchandise and my Val Doonican tape as well as other stuff that was in the car still, My premium will now go up and i doubt i get much back for it so I'll be £100's out of pocket now. I'm proper upset at the moment.

There is nothing to stop you taking them to a civil court, ie small claims court, for recovery of damages. This could include costs of temporary transport, and replacement cost of Val Doonican tape.

Perhaps start with a letter before action, demanding payment within 7 days of £3500, followed by initiating action in the small claims court, for a claim of £4500.

Failure to attend court (because I don't think they would) results in CCJ, which allows you to initiate the Court baliffs, to go and hassle them.

I think this Danny is a bit scarier...

The pair of cunts were probably fondly reminiscing the days for their youth when just about every car was twockable.

With a bit of luck another burnt out old Vauxhall will turn up in a scrappy somewhere with 2 sets of crispy human remains in the boot.

If these cunts are doing this at 29 then it is unlikely that they have jobs or any meaningful income apart from benefits, a bit of dealing on the side and nicking stuff to order. It might have more effect if their PS4 or XBox was taken away, however, they likely nicked it in the first instance.

Civil action whilst it might be satisfying will result in nothing, especially as one cunt had not long been released from clink for doing something similar.

If they haven't grown out of this shit by now they never will. It saddens me to think that they've probably got another 40 years of such useful* life left in them. And at least one of them has managed to breed, too. Truly, genuinely depressing.

I think up to now I've sort of fallen into the trap of thinking of mine as 'just old cars'; the sort of thing that scum wouldn't be interested in. As others have already said, I too will be raising my game security-wise in future. It's pretty quiet round here, but I do sometimes work at a couple of locations that could be described as The Hood.

Really sorry to see such a nice car destroyed in such a senseless, pointless way, trigger, and hope the insurance situation can be resolved without too much grief for you.

Shit. Almost everything has been said, and FFS. Really gutted for you.

The bit that hasn't been said - take some time to get a bit of talking therapy/counselling. On the handful of occasions criminals have done stuff (vandalism, assault and break/theft) and family members/I haven't, it's cast a really long, creepy little shadow over life, making home feel not like home, and so forth. If you're already doing it awesome, don't want to be patronising - but it's not the first thing you think of in these situations, yet it's well worth doing ASAP to get your security/confidence in home back.

Hope everything gets back on track. You gave that Astra one final moment of glory and pride of ownership at least.

What's their addresses?

Autoshite meet with torches and pitchforks, burn the bastards

Posted

Shit. The reason mk2 Astra's are so scarce now is because so many met the same sad end 20-25 years ago, almost like they fancied a retro GTA.

Posted

It will be a waste of time even trying to get a satisfactory outcome from this. They aren't bothered about a criminal record, won't give a shot about anyone they've affected and won't have any sort of finance or assets they could be made to forfeit to pay for the damage. They are the type of people who usually die fairly young after wrapping someone else's pride and joy round a tree though. "Loveable rogues" is how they will be described in the local paper.

Condolences on the car and situation.

A few thoughts on a scan of the thread.

I've been told that as they have caught the bastards that anyone who's car they damaged can claim off me as well as the council for the damaged chevrons and barriers they smashed. Basically the victim has to bent over and get a dam good rogering.

It's the way the Road Traffic Act and insurance works.

Driver A crashes into Driver/property B, B claims from A.

Driver unknown crashes into Driver/property B, B claims from MIB (Motor Insurers' Bureau).

So if they weren't caught, those with damages either end up claiming from their own insurers for damage or go through the MIB.

As they were caught and thus identified, then your own insurer has to pick up the tab for all the third party claims. It's up to them if they with to recover their losses from the scrotes.

I don't think in reality they'll be queuing up to claim against you personally.

Any car with a transponder key / immobiliser isn't usually going to disappear for joy riding - generally it's too much hassle to steal without the keys. Newer stuff gets trailer off for parts, parts stolen on the drive, keys nicked from the house.

Because stuff in the last 15 years is harder to nick, it makes the older stuff more attractive.

I never thought anyone would nick a 33 year-old car for it sticking out like a sore thumb, but the bastards did and crashed it ½ mile up the road. Diskloks have been in use since, despite them being heavy decapitating frisbees and never become complacent and let your guard down.

Posted

Sooner or later karma will kick in, when I was a student my motorbike was nearly nicked by a scumbag who broke into my mates car, jemmied the garage and only got beaten by an abus granite lock. They nicked another bike instead, another rd350, but hit a bus and was disfigured for life. It will happen to these one day.....

Posted

I had my Mk2 Escort nicked and burned out when I was a student nurse. There were mumbles about a suspect but nothing that anyone could prove.

Fucking hateful feeling.

Gutted for you, Trig. The scum that did this should be booted out of a helicopter 50 miles out in the North Sea.

What, you mean we should teach kids fairy stories instead of the actual truth? Hm.
