Is this going to run OMFGMEGABOOSTYO so it will GLF?

I might steal that idea for the Renault's headlights if the chrome paint idea doesn't pan out.

I love this: cheap car then spend a fortune on bringing it back to standard. Just the kind of thing I like to do. Good on ya!

Top hammer and chisel work, will be interesting to see how the pump manages veg mix. (Loop the return as well as mod the heater). May have a set of wheel trimz in case you want a spare set.

If you can split the headlights, lining them with Bacofoil does help..............

Yes indeed, foil and aerosol carpet adhesive got my old C15's headlights through the last couple of MOTs it had with me.

Will, there's a headlight here with your name on it - FOC to you, sir.

I would if you have a set! Which ones are they? Willing to pay cost and postage of course.

Thats a very generous offer, thank you! Is it a N/S one? Saves me a lot of work!

It is a NS one, yeah. Just glad to be able to help after you very kindly got me out of a hole with my CJ a little while back!

That stash started off with a BX called Chubley that looked a lot like yours.

Central locking motor I have got several of

OMG THREAD HIJACK etc.

Can I buy one of these please? The one in the front passenger door of mine is toast.

Posted

Might be door wiring on that one. Never really bothered as the wife (dusty pan, the wife) wouldn't travel in it.

Posted

Did these ever have electric mirrors on the drivers side? Mine has a switch to adjust one, but a mirror without electrics.

The 16v versions did, but lower spec versions just had the electric mirror on the passenger side, with wiring to both doors. However, it's split wiring so simply fitting a replacement electric mirror to the driver's door will mean they both operate simultaneously! I think that was so they could use the same loom for RHD and LHD cars.

This explains more:

I have a brand new electric, heated driver's mirror available...

The stop solenoid had recently been replaced with a faulty part - under internal pressure, the green plastic part was trying to burst out of the crimped over brass bit, and dino was spunking out quite copiously from between the two.
After failing to find a bolt to fit in its place to get him home, W_Cleland set about it with hammer and chisel.

Back to base nine-and-a-half hours after departure. Why do collections always take more than double the estimated time?

Meh - it's all good fun.

Having seen a photo of him back in our Polo owning days I'm not even remotely surprised. He'd just picked up some Lancia wheels and IIRC he was sporting a purple velvet jacket, matching trousers and a very stylish wide brimed fedora.

@Matt: Probably the same jacket.  I've had this velvet blazer for about 15 years, originally bought for a quid from a charity shop.

There are no plans to boost it at the moment, I havn't got the time or enough CBAs to use up. It goes suprisingly well as it is, boosts hard, and the tamperproof seal on the fuel screw has been removed so maybe someone has had a little fiddle in the past but I'm not sure.

Are you going to play veg roulette with the Lucas pump for a while?

I have plenty of projects on the go, ideally I would like to make some space in the shed by finishing the Samara and getting that out of the way before running or working on the BX.

Regarding the pump, I will probably change it- I hate paying for fuel so it will probably get changed some point before or soon after an MOT. If it will run okay on 75% veg this may delay the pump change further.

That looks pretty darned solid. What's the rear cross member like?

I havn't had a good look yet, I've only really seen it in the dark. I had a peek under the middle of it in MikeKnight's unit, and it looked fairly solid, a few slight scuffs to underseal over but nothing scary (yet). Preliminary opinion is that I think I have picked a good one!

I've tried to buy this twice, most recently I got distracted by Reliant Regal etc. Good job I didn't, as the sole reason I wanted it so much was the trims. Presumably 'stolen' means 'sold off elsewhere'? Glad it's gone to a good home, let me know if you do come to part with it. I've got a few bits here including headlamps but no doubt somebody closer can help you on that front. Again, shout if not

Have you seen the BX fs on the BXforum? I've linked to it on the ebay thread.

Lucas pumps will usually run with up to 75% veg if it's decent stuff and there's enough heating going on to thin it to allow revs once the engine's up to temp. Loop the return and/or do the filter assembly mod so the heater in the base is always heating the fuel. Just don't rev the engine before all's good and warm.

After my massive success with the Lada Samara's MOT, I arrived home surfing on a cloud of WIN.

I promised myself when I bought the BX that I would get the Lada fixed and MOT'd before I started Citro-bothering.

That prerequisite has been acheived, so I went and awoke the BX from its slumber in the feild of chod.

Once in the shed I climbed over every nook and cranny of the car and found no reasonable reason it shouldn't get an MOT.... But what do I know??....

The known faults were a leaky solenoid and a leaky injector return, but they were easy fixes, having a shed full of XUD parts has its positives!

Electrics were behaving themselves, the CV boots and suspension were all okay, there was a small leak from a low pressure LHM return pipe near the front nearside strut, but that was quicky fixed.

With Joe's help we spent an hour chasing down an imaginary fault in the rear light clusters, only to realise that the sidelights and fogs work on the same bulb, and the brakes on another, which is arse over tit compared to every other car we know.

A mouse had gotten into the fuse box, but thankfull didn't like the taste of 20 year old french electricity, and only nibbled 3 wires, easy fix with a little duct tape. Could have been much worse!

post-5452-0-93924600-1463781306_thumb.jpg

Underneath, there was no rust other than surface blebs, and it was suprisingly tidy for its 204,000 mileage.

It was literally faultless.

I booked an MOT for lunchtime the next day (today), shared a bottle of wine with Joe and went to bed early.

I got up early and fixed a couple niggles. A glowplug control unit borrowed from Babushka, the XUD Niva, sorted the lazy cold starts.

post-5452-0-29595900-1463781989_thumb.jpg

And a fuel filter head I had kicking round on my shelves from an old 205 1.7TD replaced the one with a dodgy diaphragm that had been fixed with chemical metal.

post-5452-0-40949200-1463781661_thumb.jpg

I was good to go!

Once there Jack the Test struggled to find any fault at all. I had accidentally beaten him at his own game.

He had to no choice to let me go scott free!!

I had an identical BX to this; quite odd seeing the photographs! They're great cars in so many ways.

It is wonderfully comfortable and refined compared to that Lada!
