Brief visit, good to sit there and listen to people chat about cars, even if I didn't participate too much.

 

Nice to also see some legendary cars in the metal.

 

Have to admit that I'm a massive southern softie and the mud/ground conditions were enough to make me want to limit my time there, but I'm glad I turned up! There'll be others, too, one hopes.

 

In fact, the idea being floated about of finding an abandoned car manufacturing plant (literally no idea where we'd find one of those around here, tsk) and having an indoor Shitefest was simply brilliant.

 

The yellow bus is amazing. I'm astounded it only has 180hp. That's the same as my Volvo, which weighs just slightly less....

Got back to the hallowed turf of Accrington. Just under 500 mile round trip today but well worth it.

 

Was a tad moist and muddy but that added to the fun.

 

I seem to have come back with even more shit than I took, including a box of ax bits.

The meeting of two Stellars took place, this rare event causing the sun to shine for an hour or two whilst I was there.  Good to meet you Mat and to hear that glorious V8. I met several others including junkman but it seems I can only remember names if accompanied by a V8 soundtrack.  On my way home, the weather was atrocious with flash floods and rain so heavy that 20mph was as much as the wipers could handle.  An hour or two later on my way to Wendover there was more rain, then at around 9pm yet more of the cloudburst type.  If any of it hit the field I think the already difficult conditions could become experienced off roader territory only.  Many seemed to take the mud in their humorous stride.  It may be wise to count people in and out of the field, particularly the athletic helpers....a sudden boost to traction may not have been a strip of wood!

Oh, and the V8 Stella developed some running problems, which I hope are now fixed after we took the carburetters apart during a thunderstorm.

It turned out that there was basically nothing wrong with them, so it could have been caused merely by a lack of damper oil.

 

Sadly the Dreier Bimmer from Scotoshire opted to throw its petrol out of the pram, despite German cars are so good and never break.

Needless to say, that excuses were on tap that this wasn't the car's fault.

I bet this would have sounded quite differently, had the car been manufactured in England.

Looks like Glastonbury for old cars, glad everyone had a good time despite the weather. Shame I've missed yet another one but on the other hand I have my suspicions that a rear wheel drive, automatic 4.0 Jaguar Sovereign may have found the field quite a challenge.
