Shitefest 2016 24th - 26th June --- Lost Property

Recommended Posts

Shitefest 2016 has been discussed in with the Visit to Chinnor and Princess Risborough Railway thread but I thought it was time for it to have its own thread as the railway visit is not compulsory to Shitefest.

Date is Friday 24th to Sunday 26th June 2016

(Camping in our field the week before or after is possible just pm me.)

If you want to know where we are it is Buckingham, Buckinghamshire 10 miles west of Milton Keynes, because this Forum is open to everybody on the internet to read I will not post the address but will send it out to AS members by PM who put themselves on the attendance list.

Camping Facilities - a flat field.

There is mains water but the tap is 100 meters away from the camp area so you will need your own water container.

Toilet - I will hire a plastic box and ask for donations.

There is an organic matter composting bin on site.

We can take cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles back to our home recycling bin.

General rubbish, there is no rubbish collection from the field and no room in our home bin so you need to collect rubbish and somebody can help me with a tip run.

Fires are banned on the site except Arthur Foxhake patent Travel Log Burner.

The nearest pub is 1.5 miles away so we are hoping for good weather so we can stay on site to eat and drink, we plan to erect our 3m x 6m party shelter so there is somewhere to go if it does rain. Off site Buckingham and Winslow are a short drive away with super markets, fish & chips, India, Chinese and kebabs. Milton Keynes is 10 miles and you can eat from any country in the world plus cinema, ski and snowboard zone, rock climbing, casino etc if it really is wet.

On site amusement

Binhoker668 made this suggestion

“Would be very cool to have a non mot-ed snotter there too, and an mot booked locally for Monday. A weekend-group-resto job on the Poo Disastra would be classâ€

I volunteered our 1963 Herald 1200cc or 1968 Spitfire fitted with a 2.5 Ltr engine, that I think stand a reasonable chance of passing an MOT with a weekends fettling!

Of coarse if you fettle any of my cars I will be more than happy to pay for any parts and the MOT test. I also have a fair number of Triumph spares that may be useful.

The Herald could do with a repaint as it has been brush painted for some time and used to look respectable in 2007.

Also we have two working dumpers, a 1972 horticultural truck that could do with starting and a drive round.

Put me down for this. If I can't manage the time off due to work then I'll just need to suffer but I intend to make it! As per usual I will make most of the Volvo's camper mode.

Camping is fun but I'm planning to come in the XJ-S as it hasn't been to Shitefest before, and I can't see me getting much kip in that.

We also need to work out a route to Chinnor from Six's gaff.

The boring google maps default way is basically the way I will go to SF, which is OK, but a bit 'normal A road'

post-5612-0-08426900-1453112556_thumb.png

I can't get Hoogle maps to show any other route short of major fucking about dragging stuff around. Are we up for a bumbley b road potter from A to B, or just get in car, fuck off to the train all day, get back ASAP for drinking and shite fettling and leave it at that?

Any route we plan won't be as epic as the Wales trip we did around the Lake, and any route involves skirting around Aylesbury as I fucking hate Aylesbury, we will get lost etc, it wont be any fun and Chinnor isn't signposted from Aylesbury... We will just end up down some single track B road rat run, then a main A road, back into a single lane busy road, then at Chinnor. There aren't many ways to make it exciting or fun short of a massive detour somewhere pointless and not pretty.

Plus, if we are doing Chinnor Hill we will go a different way out anyway, up Chinnor Hill, up to Bledlow (Will drive right near the tip if we need to get rid of rubbish from Friday), then Princes Risborough and back to Thame, then the way we came to Buckingham.

Just a thought...

Can we have fires if they're small, contained in a metal dish and raised off the ground?

Can we have fires if they're small, contained in a metal dish and raised off the ground?

The fire question was almost a deal breaker with Mrs Cyl, so no open fires of any kind, but Arthur Foxhake has saved the day with his patent "Travel Log Burner", this is the only approved way to have a fire on site.

With the advent of this pesky virus I for one have been missing things such as car shows, Cannock chod-fests and random meet ups.
Employing my crystal ball I’m hoping that maybe, just maybe, Chumley will be on as the date is mid September. If kids can go back ‘safely’ to a school full of kids then I’m sure an outdoor car show will be fine. Fingers crossed.
For the new and uninitiated, Chumley Castle car show is a staple of the AS calendar where we bring down the tone of a proper car show by entering rusty Renault 4s, deteriorating Dacias and crumbling Cadillacs (being literally pushed) into the show ring.  The commentator makes for hilarious listening, although we’re usually placed so far away from the ring we can’t hear him.
Any way who’s in for Chumley this year... if it goes ahead?

Are any other shitters going to this? I’ve got a ticket booked and based on the emails I’ve had since it’s still going ahead. I’ve not been to many shows before and haven’t had the best experiences when I have, so it’d be great to see some people and cars from here there.

I may be going to this, work permitting.

I've not been before but apparently it's a bigun.
If I go I'm happy to look out for unobtainium frogchod bits.

I have mentioned this to a few shiters over the year and there seems to be some interest so I thought I would make it happen. It also gets the date into the AS Calendar before anything else gets organised for the same weekend.
The location is half way between Lemans and Tours in Sarthe, Pays de Loire, France, approx 300 miles and 5 hours from Calais, or 120 miles and 2.5 hours from Caen. The date of 3-5 July is the Lemans Classic weekend, where there are great cars on track (where else will you see pre-war Bentleys power sliding and GT40s with glowing brake discs at night) and the car park is probably the biggest and best classic car show in Europe. The AS site is about 25 mins drive from the circuit, with easy access.
The format is basically whatever you want it to be. The AS base will be at my place in France that a few shiters have visited. I am afraid the bedrooms are already booked, but there is 6 acres of level camping ground,  We will be travelling down from West Sussex via the tunnel and a combination of peage and back roads in a convoy of classics. You are welcome to join the convoy at any point or meet at the venue. We will travel down probably Thursday 2nd and most will return Monday 6th, but some will stay on for a week or two and you are welcome to stay on if you wish. The nearest bar is about 1km away, but 3km away is the famous "Hotel de France" in La Chatre sur le Loir (google it). You do not have to attend the Lemans Classic, if you would rather sit and drink beer (hopefully in the sun) that is fine.
It will be up to the individuals to organise ferry/tunnel etc and getting there, I can provide camping ground, bogs, showers and a fridge for the beer. No commitment required especially at this stage, If you fancy a foreign trip with your chod, put your name down on the list. Nearer the time those still interested will get further details and the hidden location by PM. If anyone would prefer a B&B obviously they are in high demand around the classic, but I have a few contacts and could possibly find a room or two, but they would need to be booked fairly soon. No booking for camping is required.
To give you an idea, whilst nothing is yet confirmed, the convoy down is likely to include a Gordon Keeble, a Rolls Royce 20/25, a Westfield, a Mk2 Jag and a Fiesta 1100. It will not be a fast convoy......
Oooh La La, I'll help destroy the French wine lake

It didn't happen last year because I wasn't fit enough.  This year, and on the wave of having done Inverness for Christmas, I'm feeling up to a south-coast trip again.  This of course means there will be the usual Shiters' lunch meet at the burger van on Portsdown Hill, most likely on Wednesday May 13th.  I'll be in the wheelchair bus, sorry; MrsR has vetoed taking Hairy Pussy even before I've got it home.
We will also be stopping each way at a Travelodge or Premier Inn somewhere in the Midlands, so there might be an opportunity for a Midlands Massiv Meet too.  Or even two of them!  It worked well enough at Cumbernauld!
