Dumped cars in your area

Parking in a flowerbed does seem the kind of cheerful ignorage of social norms I'd expect of a dedicated Avantime driver.🤣

I've shown this house before when the three or four cars on the drive were still visible

There is a house behind there, and almost unbelievably we saw a guy sweeping along the front edge with a dustpan and brush last week.

Unfortunately street view misses this part of the road every time

Those Commers are way cool, needs saving

Did they have that weird 2 stroke opposed piston diesel?

Posted

No, either a wheezy Perkins or the 1.7 pez from the Minx/Hunter/etc. The TS3 opposed piston diesel was much too big and heavy and only ever offered on the large Rootes commercials.

I once had a  job driving a Commer PB in panel van flavour, so can speak about them with professional authority.   I have to say, I quite liked it.  It seemed well thought out and reasonably well built.  It was very manouverable, with good visibility, and quite comfortable to drive.  You sat alongside the engine and could open the lid and check it out as you went along, if you wished.   Don't remember it being too noisy in the cab.  The handbrake was on the right and worked on the front wheels (drums all round) and the front track was noticeably narrower then the rear.    A good van for town deliveries, but I imagine the campers are a bit slow and wobbly with all that bodywork.

Plus that one seems to be held together by gaffer tape.

The Commer reminded me of these two sat not far from me, pics from Streetview in 2008 & 2021

I was  gifted a commer camper a few years ago, along the lines of ' if you recover it, it's yours'

It was well buried, as in deploy chainsaw levels.

It was only when we got it 3/4 onto the trailer I realised it had only got 3 wheels, someone had nicked the OSR, along with the half shaft, brake drum etc.

It literally broke up while we pulled it out.

Got the engine running once we got it home, only to find that the reason it ran on 3 was that there was a massive hole in the side of the block where a Conrod had made a break for freedom.

Fortunately it went on to make sure several others survived, shame none of them were mine 😕

This Punto has been left over the road for the last month or so, it’s got wide swipe damage all down the drivers side. Checks show no tax or insurance so I enquired at the house it’s parked outside.  The nice homeowner informed me that it belongs to a neighbour but she doesn’t know which one and has been reported abandoned several times. Apparently it’s subject to an insurance claim but for some reason it just hasn’t been collected yet. Perhaps that’s why it hasn’t been clamped or towed away yet by the council.

CTB only values it at £150 so it’s not reallY worth the effort of tracking down the owner and waving £100 under their nose, unless it’s got a very expensive cat fitted and a full tank of petrol.

Here in Woluwe in Brussels there is a carpark over the road from the shopping mall where there always seems to be abandoned shite.

Strangely, this Laguna Coupe has been abandoned, it looks really nice otherwise.

Generally these cars, although look like they've been here a long time, they generally disappear before my next visit to Belgium to be replaced by something equally shite and abandoned.

Quite a few of those appear to originate from outside Belgium!

Wonder if it’s any easier to track ownership from within the EU, still unlikely to be worth the local authorities’ while to do so…

I suspect something very expensive and/or complicated has gone wrong with the Laguna.

Yeah, that's the thing. I'm wondering what the score is. Most of the dumped cars are from France, when I asked my Dad, he mentioned that they may have had something to do with the classic car garage over the road from the car park, but the garage has been closed from at least last year, if not before, the rotation of dumped cars is still going on, plus they aren't exactly what you'd call classic.

I'm guessing tracing these isn't exactly straight forward, but it is possible. For example, my Fatha_Sterling got fined for speeding in France and a fine was on his doormat when he eventually got home to Belgium. There is a possibility that parking fines are not worth bothering with whenever the vehicle comes from in the EU as it would often cost more to recover the money than what the fine is worth.

Yet, in the UK, I believe any fines might be piled up for a certain time in case the car is residing here.

An abandoned project somewhere in Scotswood, NuT, 1990.

Early 'proof of concept' testing for The Bourne Identity.  Possibly.

I'd definitely seek to flee Scotswood by all available means if I found myself there inadvertently.

It looks like the steps are here; they lead down from Whitfield road to St Margaret's road which runs towards the river underneath two ex-railway embankments. It used to be surrounded by tenements but they've all been bulldozed along with Vickers Elswick works etc.

That place used to handle some proper exotic ancient vehicles.... Serious coinage. I regularly left the ex to shop at Woluwe Centre and I wandered their floors drooling.

There's a bomb site dealer up around the corner towards Hof Kleinenberg (sp) that those shonkers may be linked to..... He's as dodgy as they come.

Nice! Did you live there at any point?

In the early 00s, my Dad ran the Waffle shop in Roodebeek Metro station, I went to college up the road near Tomberg.

Never knew the car bombsite car dealer (just been looking for it) but Father_Sterling after running the shop in Roodebeek station used to transport cars and dealt a lot with dodgy car Arab/African and eastern European cars buyers and sellers on a once notorious import/export road called Rue de Liverpool in Anderlecht. It really was the dodgiest part of town but I always felt safe and welcome there, old Fatha_Sterling was known around there so I was always looked after if ever I needed anything.

I loved around the corner from there. I had a Triumph 2500s and Alfa GTV so they loved the cars and hence me....  Just opposite the market and slaughterhouse....  Front looked like a bad day in Beirut but the loft was massive and cheap as chips.

African food was amazing.... Just a great place to live.

I'll try and find old photo's of the dealer... Original ACs, 30s collection, Ferrari etc.... Just a car lovers dream.

My mate works at the Leisure place at Tomberg.

Ex and son not far away in Woluwe St Pierre

The red Capri seems to have been there a while too going by the weeds growing up behind the bumper!
