Grin/grump threads get moved to open forum

Posted

I have had loads of people ask for grump threads to be returned to original location.

objections anyone before i do so???

Posted

Yeah me!!! I don't want to know about a stranger's uncle Stan being diagnosed with something awful. But if they get moved back I won't grumble.

Anonymous_user, don't post less!!! Its very clear you are a seasoned shiter and i always enjoy what you chip in.

Please bring back the grump and grin threads Dave as it is nice to have something different to read on here without having to venture into the special needs area. I didn't think there was a problem really, build threads and spotted threads will always fall quickly to the bottom as there are only so many times you can say "great work" no matter how good it is. I love Matt's Hyundai thread and the boatshite thread but they never get many comments because there isn't much more anyone else can add other than repeating what a great job it is over and over again.

I wish i had started a Bo11ox style one stop thread for all my car shenanigans rather than the odd post here and there in the News 24 thread.

I like the grin/grumpy being where they are now in off topic (but I suppose I would say that) as I honestly think it's more likely to make people concentrate on Autoshite threads on the main page.

Every chance people are trying harder to make better posts (as usually happens when things get a bit heated) but I think since they've been moved we've seen better quality threads on the main board.

I would prefer pages to open with the latest post at the top, and not to load much more than can be seen in the browser window.

But that is a preferance, not a grump. I love it here.

No why???

I have my Liverturds thread that I only update every Christmas because I'd rather just do one big annual picture dump than have the thread slipping up and down like a slags pants and I think it works better as a once a year thing.

Hehe sorry! But I posted it in the correct section!

Grin and Grump should be moved back, it's so odd them being ticked out of the way, I noticed yesterday I spent more time in the off topic section than the main one as thats where grin and grump was, and that's not on! At least when you go back to the forum from both when it was in the main section your back in the main section.

You can!

No sorry, you can open pages with the first unread post at the top of your screen. It changed my life when I discovered this a few years back. It's brill!

Click the little blue dot (or star) by the thread title on the forum page.

The star means you've posted in it previously, dot means you haven't.

This is excellent info - the mobile version of the site does it automatically when you click the topic title so I've been using it that way, now I can revert to the proper full on beige experience :)

Brilliant! I have never noticed those blue things. Thank you for pointing them out.

Massive reduction in megabytes achieved.

Don't forget the down arrow in the middle. Dead handy if the title of the thread is a bit cryptic.

Some problems with forum in iphone6 iOS 9

Navigation is a bit weird. Pressing to top button to return back to the main thread list takes you to the first page of the thread you are looking st.

No idea why but everything on that 'Rover 214 for sale' thread page is coming up in bold for me.

Everything else is fine...

Would it be an idea to have a 'Pony Express' section?

I wanted to ask if anyone was coming down from Sheffield or Leeds to the Rainham (or surrounds) area that could bring a set of four wheels down, but I didn't want to start a complete new thread for it.

Any chance of the bit where you can hover over a thread and see the first part of the opening post, I think the blue site has it

Will this not do? (Hover over that bit of the page and the preview arrow appears)

For the "I'll get my coat" jokes.

Dave, I've had an idea.

Perhaps as an add-on to the garage bit, but could we make a 'what to look out for on a (insert car here)' section? I notice, and have been guilty of putting up posts about all sorts of cars, but having it somewhere central so that owners can post about their experiences with any given car might be useful?

I'd be more than happy to extol to anyone interested my experience of rampant rust on Nissan Almeras, but their surprising fortitude when rammed up the arse at speed by a VW polo on black ice. Might cut down on duplicate content on the main forum?

Just an idea though

Couple of things, maybe mentioned before...

1. This looks like an image is missing from a folder somewhere on the server

hmm_zpshuwn7ssm.png

Viewing the source, it appears to be pointing to http://autoshite.com/public/style_images/oldschool/garage_system/car.png
which reports the file can't be found.

2. The home page message when not signed in has the words AutoShite missing. Twice. It also says "apart" instead of "a part"

Welcome to (missing word), like most online communities you must register to view or post in our community, but don't worry this is a simple free process that requires minimal information for you to signup. Be apart of (missing word) by signing in or creating an account.

Corrected...

Has the location of the "new content" button on the mobile site menu (using the 4 squares button at top right of the page) changed position?

I swear it was in the middle, but is now on right of middle row?

or should I just sit in a dark corner and have a wee drink whilst rocking back and forth

Remove any trace of Tapatalk? I prevents logging in/replying with it's 'download the app' thing, and sometimes completely logs you out. I don't really want to be reminded I can download the app three times in a row, I just want to view shite.
