The fleet clearout...

...is going GR9, as per. Nobody wants the Rover, the Perodua failed its MOT dismally this morning, and I'm now sat on a train to that there London to pick up another car, that I bid on before I lost my patience with cars. To be fair it's a reasonably interesting purchase, and cheap enough that even I won't be able to lose money on it [/tempting fate], but still not one I have any real use for, and it's not getting me any closer to my dream of a new Dacia Sandero...

Any normal person would advise you need serious psychiatric help.  But until then, just post stuff up here and we'll encourage you, YKIMS.

Now at London Bridge, about to head saarf of the river. Scary.

The doors on all my cars automatically lock half way along any bridge going over the Thames heading south. It's the law.

Sarf of the river? Brave.... Milk delivered by the S.A.S., Securicor deliver the groceries and no right-thinking taxi driver goes near the area after dark......

My brother lives there, too!

Good luck, quite interested to see what you're getting this time.

Your fleet reduction seems to be going as well as mine.

You'll never kick the habit wuvvum it's impossible. I recon the key to it is to have 1 decent car you can rely on when all the other crocks fail .

You can continue buying old shite but you don't have to worry if it doesn't start or you need to sorn it for 6 months

Made it out alive, now at Stansted services. Car is running Ok, has a few issues but I expected that.

3 speed auto and a shite digital dash, that has to be a yank surely?????

4 speed methinks therefore jap

Its f*cking filthy whatever it is and needs a duster.

Damn you Wuvvum, and there was me thinking I was the only person on here getting a motor with a digi-dash this weekend.

I have no idea what it is, but I was thinking Yankish.

The minimalist digitalness suggests Yank ,but the 24hr clock usage doesn't . I'm thinking Jap possibly Subaru, I know XT's had funky dashes but with a lot more info. Maybe some sort of import Leone?

Edited to add:

I'm a fuckin moron, 16.65? 16.65 ? 24 hr clock? Idiot!

Still think it might be a Scooby though.

The Wover appeals but I couldn't do it for a wee while :(

Marvinsmom and skattrd are the closest so far, although brookjm was in the right ballpark (same parent company an' all).  It's not as interesting as an imported Leone though, alas.

dunno what EXACTLY it is other than it say OLdsmobile on the yankee number plate...

therefore i LOVE it, is the rest of the interior upto* the same standard as the dash board?

i'm looking for acres of velour......

Great! Looks a great barge. Hope it gives your old chod mojo a boost, wuv.

Like the Halfords type " sport" badge lobbed on the bonnet!!!

Rover Raffle? I'd buy a few tickets.

More pictures.

6 cylinders of Yank pig-iron.  Multi-point injection and coil pack ignition help it to make 140bhp from 3.1 litres.  So nearly as good as my 43-year-old Volvo which makes 145bhp from 3 litres.  Working bonnet light and everything.

Another view of the quality digital dash.  The low fuel light consists in the word "LOW" lighting up next to the word "FUEL", in the same turquoise colour.

The whole dash.  Build quality and ergonomics are up to the usual early '90s Yank standards...

No velour alas, but a split bench seat upholstered in some kind of tweedy material.  It's technically a 6-seater.  Door mounted seatbelts ftw.

Back view.  It has a towbar, which I didn't even notice until this morning  , and which partially obscures the already illegal rear number plate.  I might have to do something about that.

I would show you the boot, but I managed to snap the (incredibly flimsy) key off in the lock, so I can't get into it at the moment.

It's an interesting thing to drive.  The engine won't rev but it has shedloads of torque so doesn't feel slow.  The suspension is a lot firmer than I was expecting, and it doesn't feel overly wallowy to drive - it's not unlike a contemporary Taurus in fact, albeit a lot slower because ancient engine.  It seems to be able to go round corners reasonably quickly, although the steering doesn't have a lot of feel and tyre squeal set in embarrassingly early.  The brakes are also surprisingly firm - far from the usual over-assisted throw-you-through-the-windscreen Yank setup, they actually need quite a hard push to stop quickly.

The engine needs a tune-up (seller reckoned one of the injectors has had it) and the exhaust is blowing a bit, but it seems to run fine other than that, and it's done about 165 miles on 30 quid of pez, which isn't terrible considering.

I found a couple of good scrappers the other day if you need any small bits.   Mind you, this beast might be getting a little old for scrap yard fodder.

Needs better trims (trim rings?) and that radio is just plain awful.

Sarf of the river? Brave....

Nah, Cornwall is south of the Thames and is quite nice.

David that is magnificent. Awful, of course. That double-din stereo actually made me belly-laugh.

Brilliant effort. You madman.
