Maybe it hit the right car and it welded itself back up with the strike? 🤞

so what happened while it was down!

My favourite Alfa specialist  visited at the crack of dawn Sunday to see what could be done with the 156 that has not started for weeks. Guess what it started the moment he turned the key!

After the Citroen show on Sunday I press-ganged a couple of strangers who weren't doing much to help me get the Ami and Visa home. Monday the Ami bonnet pull cable snapped and @slowsilver managed to get the grill off to open it. I have now ordered a bowden cable kit which I hope can be adapted to fit.

Tuesday I had the Autosparks visit the Peugeot 404 because of the lack of charging, unwired wiper motor and general extra modern wiring trailering around.

An over length screw to mount the heater to the interior bulkhead had been fitted and it had poked out into the engine bay and shorted the back of the regulator. It now has a shorter screw, then he manually excited the dynamo and bingo it now charges!

Unfortunately the autosparks back was playing up and he was not able to get under the dash to sort out the wipers and mess of aftermarket wires. There will be a return visit........

That is one of those things that could have remained hidden for months while every other electrical component is gradually replaced. Glad it's sorted!

Yesterday I took the Cadillac for MOT. It is now going to be being serviced, new bonnet struts fitted and some other bits done. Then it needs its aircon sorted and was diagnosed as a faulty pressure switch that Mrs6C has bought from the US.

Back to what car to take to Shitefest 2023, it was a GREAT drive yesterday and wide LHD I can cope with. It is just 20 mpg would make it an expensive trip. The other negative is that it has already been on a shitefest in Wales 2014.

The BiTurbo has also been re MOTed and this evening I took it to a small car gathering.

It turns out one of the group still thinks Max Power is still alive and well. But then I think a beige attack is a good thing!

All gearbox bearings in working order I trust.. (IE unlike last time...)

If you zoom into the photo, you will actually see a mini-pallet containing the offending gearbox! Not because we want to take it on holiday with us, but it's now been dropped off in Luton for a rebuild.

My 2016 Range Rover has become one of us!

Yes it has gone into limp mode and put is DPF warning light on.

@Andyrew helped me get it to a Land Rover specialist today.

Could you not just clear the code and rag it up and down the A421 MK way a few times?
My neighbour in Newton Longville bought a Mercedes GLE350D.  Only ever drove it to Morrisons and back - about 7 miles round trip at a push.
I told him not to buy a Diesel, but he insisted.

I used to have to clear the code for him every month or two and rag it round Milton Keynes for about 20 miles.

Chris it's spelt land cruiser 😛

I thought about a Land Cruiser but they were £10,000 more than the RR and feel rather crude. Also have you seen @St.Jude tale of wow.

JLS Land Rover specialist in Milton Keynes did a forced regeneration that has worked and the car had no codes. The problem is the Regen should be automatic and for some reason it did not sort itself out. We have taken it home and we are going to see if the problem reoccurs.

Can confirm, buying a second hand Land Cruiser (or Toyota) is like paying £250,000 for a seat on a glorified coke bottle and going to see the Titanic.

For most people it’s ok, but you’ll be the fool who gets fucked by it.

Yesterday was a fix it day with Andyrew and Slowsilver. The Ami had broken its bonnet release cable and I bought some new bowden cable lengths to make one as I couldn't just find a ready to fit part. When the cable arrived it was from a motorbike dealer, I guess that makes sense when I think about it.

On a roll fixing bonnet cables we tackled the broken bonnet cable on Error 404, no such luck as the inner cable had rotted away after only 60 years of water fired through the grill at it! It was suggested I should just buy a MGB cable which I have ordered and I hope it will fit. I could not find any dimensions for the MGB cable and going to measure mine seemed at lot of work as it is 6 miles away and the cable is threaded out of sight for much of its length.

Andyrew is getting ready to repossess his black Astra as I have not made the payments! The good news is it started easily with a jump and drove out of its parking spot. Next job is to fit the new alternator and then get it MOTed.

I bought the BX home yesterday because it is going to a Citroen specialist in Hitchin to have its heater sorted out.  The rotary heat controller only turns a little and only luke warm air comes out.

What to drive to Shitefest 2023, the BX 1.9i 8v gets a medium rating, it is reasonably comfortable, goes well enough in GTi form, does high 20s mpg, but somehow doesn’t manage to peak my interest.

I absolutely love that car. If you ever have a craving for a super-low mileage PT Cruiser convertible (or need a place to hide a Caddy for a while)...

Back in the day things like that Fiesta offended me, now... I sort of miss the modifying/enjoying cars culture being so creative and technically accessible-but-upskill/career worthy. No-one is going to pay for you being able to stretch tyres, chop coils and put stickers on a rusty 6N Polo.

Oh whatever, I'll have it then 🤔🙄
