AnthonyG Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I am sure several forum members would be happy to take that van off your hands and return it to the road. What condemned it for the MoT? LightBulbFun 1
wuvvum Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Maybe that could be the challenge this time around. Get the van fixed and MOT'd in time to go for fish and chips on Saturday evening. LightBulbFun, Floatylight, Six-cylinder and 3 others 4 2

I don't think they can remember as it was Dec 2019 when it was checked over. Ball joint and charging were two things they remembered. They also said windscreen but I can't see anything wrong with that. I am sure several critical eyes will look over it at FoD and we can decide if it has a future. DoctorRetro and LightBulbFun 2
beko1987 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Be ironic wouldn't it! All you want is a watertight lockable shed on wheels to live out its days on the farm, costing you nothing more than diesel and a part worn tyre every few decades and halfway through the first fod day it'll be ready for its mot and needing taxing and insuring... I'd go cut all the wires to the rear lights then set fire to the loom a bit so no one can sneakily fix it... Six-cylinder, Tickman, LightBulbFun and 1 other 2 2

Six-cylinder Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 BL Autumn Rally 27th Sep 2020 I has been bought to my attention due to Covid-19 this year only certain models will be allowed in and therefore will exclude our two Daimler Sovereigns, MGB GT and Triumph Vitesse so I will only have my Metro and VP1500 if it repaired in time. Quote from Tom Morley Metro Owners Club. "Pleased to announce I have been given the go ahead for the show. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions for the event to happen it will only be Club/model areas this year so just 1100’s, Allegros, Maxis, Marinas, Landcrabs, Metros, Maestros, Montegos and Rover 200/400/600/800’s. No individual entries. You don’t need to be a club member but all vehicles will have to be parked in their model specific area so track and trace can be completed by a club official, the museum will be closed apart from the toilets and the cafe will be takeaway tea and cake with card payment only" richardmorris and Mrs6C 2
LightBulbFun Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 time to quickly go and buy the models that they do allow in? on a slightly more serious note will the MGB GT and others still be at the FoD weekend? id quite like to have a go in the MGB especially if possible (and the others would be a nice bonus!)

The rheostat seems to control the brightness of the instrument lights but not the back illumination for the switches which is faint. The Voltmeter and fuel gauge seem to have a failed bulb. The big red light is described as the general warning light in the handbook. The bulb warning system says I have a tail light out but they both work fine. I think it might be worth replacing the lot with decent LEDs, as the backlighting bulbs are probably well burnt glass by now, blotting out anything the filaments can produce...
Zelandeth Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 It's not doing too bad all things considered! I imagine the switchgear may well be lit from a single source via fibre optics depending how much Fiat parts bin raiding was going on, that was something Fiat seemed to be very in to about that sort of time period. One of those jobs which while fiddly as all hell, I find really satisfying to do. LightBulbFun 1

Especially the bulb fail light that is lying as I think that is what is bringing on the big red light. My place or we could get it over to yours for a few days so you can play with it when your feel like it and have your tools around you. Six-cylinder Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 Our Metro has dropped some coolant on the floor while parked in storage so this morning I went over there to check why. Turns out it is the bottom hose, a wiggle, clean and tighten has resealed it including when running. I am a bit concerned if the hose is ok as it seems a bit loose so my friend is going to see if he can buy one at the Mini/metro show tomorrow at Gaydon. LightBulbFun and Floatylight 2

I am still in love, I took it out first thing this morning on a fix it mission and then to Tesco shopping. More than happy to have it here for a couple of days - actually have a bit of room for a change as the Activa is still sitting at a friend's place waiting for an MOT slot. Depending how the bulb failure system works just changing the brake light bulbs for a matched pair may well sort it. Some systems work by measuring the resistance of the bulbs and look for an imbalance between them - so if the bulbs are a bit different nor there is a less than perfect connection (or ground...because Lancia) it can interpret that as a failed bulb. The earlier offer to tackle the 2CV greasing regime remains open too. LightBulbFun 1
