What are your 'weird' likes in cars?

I've got a very soft spot for cars with strange wipers (was just reading another thread where this was discussed) and sinle wipers just do it for me in a big way. I live Mercs 'jumping' single wiper system and can watch them for hours! The jumping system was introduced becaus the Americans have a rule that says so much percent of a screen has to be cleared and the non jumping wiper didn't....

Once bought a Scirroco 'cause it had a single wiper....

Love the 'clap hands' wipers on old cars (Mercs a favourite).

Can't stand rusty wiper arms or tatty blades.

What are your odd likes?

Back windows that go the wrong way. It only makes sense once you own one.

But one is plenty for me since there aren't enough to go round :D

Interesting cars that aren't pristine show queens.

Longitudinal engine, front wheel drive. Seems a stupid way to do it, therefore I like it.

On here "weird" equals beige, giffer spec, and unfashionable.

If it is french or has the flying plug hole on the front wings even better.

Commer's TS-3 engine, far too daft.

Home brewed electric cars.

Proper period number plates (nothing looks worse on a last 70s or 80s car than silver on black plates).

The original Mazda RX-7

Strange this - I actually prefer an SD1 with some rust. Just as well really.

Would sooner see an honest usable car than a trailer queen or something that has been flashed over.

Giffer-owned cars with thier original floormats, dealer plates/sticker, tax disc holder, correct wheel trims, correct radio, user manuals and wallets all still in place.

Plus eleventy on quarterlights.

And I don't think I like body coloured metal on the inside.

Central locking is the best/most convenient thing in the world, ever designed, ever.

When I was little I had a thing for any car with quarter lights, push button door handles, separate side lights and column shift gears. Basically anything our family Granada didn't have but other cars I saw did have.

I still have a thing for any car with a Slaters of Abergele sticker on the back. A hangover from all the cars we used to see when we were on holiday in our static caravan in Wales. That dealer mystified me as they sold every make exept Ford.

Cars with Scottish registration marks in that kind of sharp-cornered font, like the R14 pictured earlier today. Only thing it didn't have was raised letters.

Also like semi-forward control commercials, where a bit of the engine enroaches into the cab, under the dash, like a Commer Walk Thru or Dodge S56/75.

Pantograph wipers. Everything about this video is WIN.

So far, the only car I've owned with one was my early Nissan Bluebird T12. Sadly it was fitted to the rear. I need to own a Lancia Thema, Triumph Stag or TR7 or perhaps a Lotus Esprit.

Stripped out interiors, just seats and dash for me please.

No extra bits of glass, ie one piece only in the door (Cx good, Xm bad)

HS type SU carbs , preferably twins , so simple but so infinitely tuneable with just a change of needle and maybe a spring , not an ECU in sight , just a screwdriver

For some reason I like the the Rover Streetwise and it's equally short-lived cousins, the Polo Dune and the Citroen C3 whatsit.

I have no idea why!

Tailfins. If it has fins, I like it by default. This includes pre-war cars having only one fin in the middle.

Things I like:

The push-button starter in my 1966 Land Rover Series 2a.

The triple windscreen wipers on my old Lightweight Land Rover (single-screen modification)

The hand brake on the right of the driver's seat in the original VW LT series.

The choke lever next to the handbrake on the Hillman Imp.

Starting handles.

That 'old Jag' smell.

the gearbox whine in first gear from a transverse a-series engine, a-la metro, mini and others.

just reminds me of been a nipper and bouncing around in the back of a mini, before having to wear a seatbelt, assuming that they were even fitted!

Melodious gearboxes and final drives of any sort. The MK2 Carlton diff whine is good, as is ZF 4HP22 noises.

Superchargers are another aural delight.

Having the steering wheel on straight is a must too.
