DodgyBastard Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Been offered a Bedford Rascal with no tax or test for £150 in Edinburgh, I'm not sure if I'm going to go for it so thought I'd offer it up to any other shiters in case someone is in desperate need of a Rascal. It has a starter related problem where you turn the key to the first position and it tries to start but doesn't fire, it does the same when you turn the key to the start position. Apparently it bump starts but it was raining, it had a flat tyre and we couldn't be bothered trying. We might go back with some fresh fuel and try again etc Anyone want to chip in for a communal shiters van? Located in Edinburgh. Craig the Princess, DVee8, eddyramrod and 1 other 4
vulgalour Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Whoever fitted that bullbar must have been some sort of optimist. I mean really, what's it even going to do bar make the little Rascal heavier? HMC and warren t claim 2
brickwall Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I'd love one,but certain things going on just now rule it out, I'm afraid.
Cavcraft Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I think at that price it's a no brainer. I'm sure there's some parts on them made out of unobtanium now, so it'd probably break and weigh in for more, though that'd be a shame.
brickwall Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Parts still made in India for their version. bit of a gamble really.
twosmoke300 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Bear in mind, with no mot, that because they are so narrow nearly all the body comes into a " prescribed area " for mot corrosion. I've failed a few! brickwall 1
STUNO Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Whoever fitted that bullbar must have been some sort of optimist. I mean really, what's it even going to do bar make the little Rascal heavier? Take a close look, it has already been used. To absolutely no useful effect !!
cort16 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I love these and I'm in Scotland . I've just no space for it. Damn!
DodgyBastard Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 I have space to store it, I'm just not sure what I'd use it for...
Vince70 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 My mate had an identical rascal to that back in the mid to late eighties and had the bullbar option fitted to his.. If it has a set of stolen London transport bus seats in the back either side and a pioneer stereo with speaker holes cut out as big as the doors panels then it must be the same one brickwall 1
eddyramrod Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I'd actually enjoy that as a winter beater, just for comedy value! Sadly it's too far away/I have a lovely Volvo estate/I can't take on something without T&T. Hope it finds a good home. FR registration would be issued in Preston, so it might have been local to me once.

That's a fair point 30cm inwards from both sides pretty much leaves a wee strip in the middel!
warren t claim Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Whoever fitted that bullbar must have been some sort of optimist. I mean really, what's it even going to do bar make the little Rascal heavier? These don't have a NCAP rating, just a MENCAP score of 5* Vince70, eddyramrod, Cavcraft and 7 others 10
Jim Bell Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 You sick of the renner Dizzler yet Something_awful?
Asimo Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 No power. No brakes. No hope at all in a head-on. No brainer. Buy it & open a florists shop so that you can use it. PS. Was that the last ever Bedford badged motor?
Lord Sterling Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I love Rascals. I'd love to take it on or at least bash it in with my collection, sadly lack of space and a broken Rover have side swiped me out of pursuing it.
Junkman Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 If it wasn't a 500 mi round-trip away, It'd be mine now.
HMC Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Lob this and a Bedford midi on the back of a Bedford TK flatbed and you have a supersized autoshite gift set. eddyramrod, Vince70, mercrocker and 3 others 6
DodgyBastard Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 You sick of the renner Dizzler yet Something_awful?Not yet but I have a 240 to cruise around in too as pictured behind the rascal. Do you want the 18?
coalnotdole Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'd be all over this if it wasn't in edinburgh - My works vehicle is a suzuki carry (EFI!) These little vans are amazing capacity for the wheelbase and surprisingly nippy! Boring as fuck to drive and massive oversteer but hey!Dave (I have just come out the pub so reserve the right to change my opionon when sober!) michael t 1
Honey Badger Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I love these and I'm in Scotland . I've just no space for it. Damn! Are you sure it won't fit in the boot of the SD1? Twiggy and eddyramrod 2
Mr Livered Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 There's a bloke in my village who has two of these; I see him nipping around the lanes and they look quite sprightly. Cool little vans. Is there space to lie down in the back? (I'm still on the lookout for a small primitive camper)
fordperv Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Whoever buys this is a winnar in life, I would love one but my shite is at full limit

Cool little vans.Is there space to lie down in the back? (I'm still on the lookout for a small primitive camper)There's a camper conversion of these, called a Bambi I think. I've a feeling it's got a longer body though.
CreepingJesus Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Bambi camper was built on a chassis cab, but Danbury (iirc) did a pop-top job on the van. 2 berth, and cosy at that!
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Excellent! A mechanic mate used to work at City Motors in Oxford (GM dealer) and coined the term 'Bedford Bastard'.
rml2345 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Someone ought to get on this. If I had somewhere to stash it then it'd be me!
coalnotdole Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 thinking about it I remember a rusty Bedford van just like that delivering the school dinners when I was in primary school... they used to make them fresh on site then at some point in the early ninetys the kitchen was converted to a computer room and filled with bbc basic computers. from then on Every morning the at about 11:30 the van would rock up and deliver yellow boxes of disappointment. Tepid reheated food that was barely fit for human consumption. Shortly afterwards I started to get a packed lunch... Vince70 and michael t 2
