Favourite versions of cars you'll never own.

The Riley Kestrel on the Tat thread made me think ,'Mmmm that's probably my favourite ADO 16' But,not always! For a long time it would be an orange 1300GT and before that Connaught green Traveller. I don't even like them and would never buy one.

For the record my current favourite Mk1 Escort is a silver fox 4 door XL with square lights. Viva would have to be a blue HC 2000GT and to keep things fair an Avenger Sunshine special edition with half vinyl. Again no desire to own any of them and my favourites may change tomorrow.

Anyone else as weird?

My favourite Granada (that I'll never own) is a manual Mk 2 2.8i Ghia X Estate. I'd so much rather not own one of them than any other model.

Hillman Avenger Tiger - the bog standard models hold no appeal whatsoever, I'll probably never have or want to spend the cash to buy a Tiger but they're definitely a more appealing prospect.

Purple Velvet two-door Ford Escort 1300E. Will never own one because of scene tax.

On a tiger theme, a Messerschmitt variant (Kr 500?) tiger- I'd love one of those !! the 4 wheeled type.

I went with a micro car nut friend to see a guy's collection a few years ago. He had about 30 of various sorts including one of those tigers. He took me out for a demo, scary as fuck but great fun.

One look at the prices they fetch tell me I will definitely never own one!

Who wouldn't love an Aston?  I absolutely would, but I know I'll never have one.  So my Aston of choice would be a V8 Vantage Volante, about 1986, automatic of course, in Italian Racing Red with white leather interior.

ADO16s?  I'll never have one of those either, because they completely fail to light my fire, but if I had to, it would be either the Riley or MG. I'd want the 1275 and four doors.  Connaught over OEW.

Sixties Jags?  Again, something I'll never have, but if there's a 3.8 S-type automatic in black with red leather, red steels and whitewalls waiting for me in a barn somewhere, that would be the one.  I know what I said elsewhere about black, but the Jag has enough chrome (and a red leather interior) to carry it.

I remember my old  man buying cars....I would go  and get hold  of a brochure of  anything he was considering (we never had anything new) but whilst I was drooling over the Series VI Minx 1725 de Luxe in Pippin Red with black  roof and sidestripe he would come home with a fag-ash grey 1600 but come to think of it, we didn't look like the  kids  in the brochure  either so he was probably just as disappointed!    When he later expressed interest in an FD Vauxhall I instantly got him to a nearby lot where I knew a pristine white VX4/90 was lurking.    Sure  enough a week later, a plain-jane blue Victor turned up!   I can live without the Minx but I wish I had  bought a hot FD while whey were still sensible  money....

A white Capri 1.6 Laser like my dad had when I was a baby. The diff blew up due to lack of oil after a service and it was sold.

Oxford VI / A60 Cambridge estate with two-tone paint, because they'll probably be too expensive and hard to find in good nick by the time I'll be able to afford one.

Early 80s Lagonda.

Mini Clubman, ideally in that sort of turquoise colour.  (Obviously I don't mean the BMW one, though I'll never own one of those either.)

Cord 812.

1964 Lincoln Continental - in fact several US cars from the 60s/70s, except a 1965 Buick Riviera which is on my actual bucket list.

Volkswagen 412 Estate, two (three) door in Lofoten green. No sunroof and manual please.

I nearly bought just that on a P plate in 1980. It was perfect, local, I could afford it and it was a bargain.

I didn't buy it because I decided I wanted an auto. Error! Error! Error!

a Sierra RS500 in moonstone blue i will probably never be able to own one of these winged beauties due to the increasing omgoldrarecosworthtax price tags which are being attached to them

I'd love a mk3 Astra SRi estate:

Or a normal SRi:

Allegedly they only made a few SRi estates.

I wasnt driving it at the time.

However:

THIS, this actual LR, I adore. A nice mix of old and new.  But will never be able to afford sadly.

A Vauxhall Nova saloon...

...but then I am mentally ill.

I remember a neighbour had one in a fetching green colour when new-ish and I thought to myself, why?

What is the point of a Nova with a boot?

Now this reminds me of the great Vauxhall Belmont and I'm thinking an Astra with a boot, WTF?

Posted

My mum had a booted 1.2 Nova Merit saloon in the same colour as the one above - but hers didn't have full wheel trims. My views on Vauxhalls are well documented, but I kinda have a soft spot for the bloody awful thing.

I doubt I'll ever own a Capri Perana. Always wanted one, love everything about them. They're bound to be awful. Never meet your heroes.

Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia 2 door. Must be yellow with the black vynal roof. I had a white one (OFV 80P) in 1986 and it was a bit ropey then........according to the dvla it lasted until 2001.

Nissan Cherry Arna.

A friend had one and binned the original mill, replaced it with the 1500 Cloverleaf mill.

It didn't handle, it would not stop, but it was a riot.
