Quentin most definitely has a vested interest in his advice! Don’t get me wrong, I find him entertaining and I enjoy reading his columns. I met him once, he was warm and engaging. He was always my favourite Top Gear presenter in the good old days.

When it comes to buying advice, I prefer listening to this chap. Solid gold words from the current Car Mechanics mag.

I do get the impression that he buys up all of one random motor that he can find, wangs the price up by a couple of thousand then writes a column about it. You're right though, still a good read.

Ahh..... Like those two newspaper 'financial pundits' who tipped-the-wink on a 'coming chance'....

.... and got caught at it [taking futures] 👍

2006 Toyota Corolla for the princely sum of £5495.....

Bloody hell. Back in August/September 2010 I almost bought a 2005 1.6 VVTi Sport 3 door for £4995. Actually seemed quite cheap at the time (wonder if I remember the price correctly of if it had a tough life). It was up for sale at a Toyota dealers as well.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)...Traction control...Alarm...

Same spec as mine, it has none of these. ESP wasn't even available, it was ASR, and no-one ever bought it as an option on the 1.2 12v.

These IIRC have a 'powered wedge', in the inlet, to *cure endemic gutless flatspot.... 🤣

You learn something new every day! Aren't these things the definition of a flat spot though!? 😅

But it is a bargain Ferrari. 😉

Never heard of the NY500 museum so looked it up. It appears to be a cafe/meet up point. With a garage attached.

So wrong ! Where do you start.? Can’t even get Reliant Robin in the right order.

I can only assume Ferrari’s legal bids are too busy laughing to actually stop them calling it a Ferrari.

@Metal Guru.... "I can only assume Ferrari’s legal bids are too busy laughing to actually stop them calling it a Ferrari"

I wonder if it has a 'gag sticker', in the rear window >> "Don't Laugh, my OTHER car is a DeLorean!"

👌

To be fair 8000 quid is now only just about enough to do a weekly shop in Waitrose and fill the car with petrol so the price seems about right.

Iirc* this was a badge engineering exercise by Maranello who, lacking a small fibreglass three wheeler in their range during the early 80s approached Reliant to provide one.

You’ll be telling us next Aston Martin would rebadge a terrible little Toyota 20 years later.
