londonm Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Another post got me thinking about this, and seeing as half of you on this site are allegedly contributing towards killing the planet with your Allegro's and Capri 2.8's, I want you to answer the following question with 'Yes' or 'No' followed by your brief synopsis of the argument. So, Global Warming, real or cobblers?
Micrashed Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Utter bolloks. The Earth goes in cycles of hot & cold, this is a slightly warm period. shellac 1
wuvvum Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I believe global warming is definitely happening. I also believe that it has absolutely fuck all to do with cars, and indeed very little to do with man-made CO2 emissions at all. shellac 1
trigger Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I had both the Cortina and Civic running in my back garden the other day, I saw the vortex opening in the sky above my head and the polar ice caps meltting a little more. Never mind.
CreepingJesus Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Who cares? No species can last forever, not even us terribly clever hoomins. So the earth's gonna rebalance itself, and spit us out like an olive pit? Fuck it, let's have some fun. It's real alright, and no eco warrior bleating is going to make much difference. michael t 1
cort16 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 It's happening but as wuv says cars aren't that much of the cause. Try finding any other industry that's cleaned up their products more than the car industry. They also recon that stopping leaded petrol is to do with the huge decrease in violent crime in cities during the 90s and onwards.
Junkman Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 The politicians say there is global warming, consequently there cannot be any global warming. However, there is climate change. This is the first time in earth history the climate changes, it has never happened before, and humankind alone is responsible for it, what with driving private motorcars and eating meat and such!To save the planet, we must stop the climate change! We must do everything we can so that the climate remains constant, like is was the past 5 billion years! And that means, work more hours for less pay, pay more taxes, and live in austerity! Also, we must reduce the world population to a sensible level, so being heterosexual is just plain wrong. Dunno, but in a nutshell, this is the kind of horseshit they are trying to feed me, no?
HillmanImp Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I am waiting to see what Cobblers says about this. CreepingJesus 1
Spiny Norman Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 It may well be happening all right, but mankind's contribution to it is in the tenths of one percent, and the evil* car responsible for about a tenth of that. But it's a good scam for them to tax the fuck out of us so it's all good. I'm glad I'll be dead before the shit really starts hitting the fan.You think fuel & energy are expensive now? Wait till China, India and Brazil all decide they want cars, iThings and Starbucks coffee, we'll have no chance.War is coming.... oman5 1
Justin Case Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I am waiting to see what Cobblers says about this.Cobblers?
catsinthewelder Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 One of the reasons that I'm on here is because I believe that as a species we all consume too much new crap. If I can re-use old crap then that helps in a small way which is why I skip raid more stuff than I buy and I drive cars that most people would consider scrap. I don't know if the earths getting warmer but the weathers certainly getting a bit odd. It would take a complete idiot to deny that humanity is fucking the planet up though. oman5, Wilko220, loserone and 2 others 5
Wilko220 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Climate change is indisputably real and, in my view, ought to be tackled. But in a world of coal-fired power stations and an ever-expanding aviation industry, I don't think that the existence or otherwise of my Rover V6 makes a jot of difference one way or the other. warren t claim 1
M'coli Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Real. Global warming is occurring, unarguably. The reduction in size of the polar ice caps, glaciers on high mountains and other such phenomena can't be faked. We are in the midst of a natural interglacial period, and whether it'll be any worse than the last one I don't know.Whether or not this global warming is enhanced due to our use of fossil fuels is up for debate, however! I personally think that we'll spunk all the world's natural energy resources up the wall before we all die out/drown. I'm a happy fucking sod, really. The planet and the ecosystem will also survive. I believe we're also on the verge of a natural mass extinction event, and we're just helping it along. Why worry about this shit when we've still got enough nuclear weapons to end all multi-cellular life on the planet? oman5 1
retrogeezer Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 as I said on the faceache forum, cobblers. If it was true then why the fook are huge diesel burning tankers/cargo ships and cruise liners still going back & forth across the oceans with no emission control and why are there more and more aircraft journeys taken year on year. The car had virtually fook all influence on it but the motorist is a very easy target. How can this small islands contribution make one bit of difference when there are all those factories in the far east chucking out more crap in a day than we probably have in the last 100 years. The earth warms up, the earth cools down, has done for thousands of years. M'coli 1
Des Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I really hope global warming being down to us is bollocks, otherwise every single thing that's been done, being done or will be done to counteract the problem is going to make the shit far worse. Junkman 1
rml2345 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Climate change is real, the planet is heating up. Man made or not, the burning of fossil fuels and the thousands of tonnes of greenhouse emissions can't be helping that. I'm doing my best by trying to eat all the meat and use up as much petrol as possible in an effort to save people from themselves but the damn fools keep making more... Besides, the energy wars are going to make climate change debate look like a pantomime.

Gold1971 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 As long as Capitalism is king, we all live for today. Every man for himself, unless you're some sort of weirdo like me who doesn't actually give a shit if he has the latest this, that, or the next thing. Seriously, I have given up on humanity - every day I see people behaving like idiots, wasting stuff because there is no immediate comeback on them. If everybody thought about the consequences of everything they did, there might be some hope for the future - but that is never going to happen, is it? Sorry to be a depressing old shit, but that's the way I view the world - and I'm glad I don't have kids, much as I would like to have. Des, Bobthebeard and oman5 3
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 If the scientific consensus is that it's real and we're exacerbating it, then I'm happy to accept that it's real and we're exacerbating it. I trust science in every other aspect of my life, it would be arrogant beyond belief to deny climate change just because accepting it is incompatible with my lifestyle. catsinthewelder and Wilko220 2
Station Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I think it's just a natural process, but research is shonky and researchers have lied about it to get a foot in the door in politics. We're basing all this on ice samples of glaciers and not much else I think. The samples are about as accurate as using planning the the moon landing using only an abacus, a ball of string, LSD, some pritt stick, and a 'game n watch' space rescue handheld game. On the other hand, I can't wait to see the back of a polluting society, especially the internal combustion engine. Global warming is just politics at gunpoint I think.

simmo Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Has anyone read Michael Crichton's State of Fear ?, Its a an mid 2000s novel but has loads of references to real life science and research around climate change. The point he is making is that the science and research in this area is a bit woolly and political. He is not arguing that climate change isn't real but that the science needs to be robust, testable and repeatable.
Richard Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I blame cows & horses farting in the fields for climate change That's one of the things that officially gets the blame, cows at least. There is no doubt that we have become massively wasteful as a society. I visit a few recycling companies as part of my job and the amount of good stuff that gets melted down is unbelievable.
fordperv Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I blame cows & horses farting in the fields for climate change This is my belief they put out more emissions than cars and maybe the shit that comes out of politicians mouths also contribute lol
Guest Ratbike Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Climate change real, global warming fake, a neat way to panic and tax the public. Since man has developed machines and technologies the planet has stabilised somewhat, look at history and the devastation recorded before we had the wheel. Still, there may be some embellishment to those tales. A but like listening to the big mouth in the pub after a few..... But, pollution of different kinds is bad news and unfortunately motorised transport does contribute. The good news is that the older simpler vehicles that already exist don't need the huge energy cost to produce like a new one. Studied this some time back at uni, life cycle analysis. At one point (for cars) the Jeep Wrangler was thought to have the least environmental impact. Simple to make, maintain and robust. My first post and I've overdone it. oman5 and CreepingJesus 2
Wilko220 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 As it's your first post, can I be traditional and say:"LET'S HAVE SOME PICTURES THEN..."
myglaren Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Termites and volcanoes are responsible for global warming. Also mopeds. Conrad D. Conelrad 1
a60rod Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Anyone wondered why Bill Oddie disappeared? Twas because he was a nay sayer about global warming, well it's source anyway.Only last week 'they' realised they hadn't taken into account the massive, and I'm talking 10s of millions of cubic feet, of global warming gases released when the tectonic plates shift and you get gas release from the ocean floor.Oooops mere oversight. Is that natural fracking?
