Bollo: Just so you know, I've actually got your updates bookmarked. Every time I switch The Internet on, I always think "I wonder what Mr Bollox has been up to". It's slightly stalkerish, granted, but any man who spends SRS TIME on an old K-Series Rover while his Maserati sits in a garage fizzing quietly away deserves worship.

Unberleevable! Well done to keep trying and doing it right each time. No amount of years spent spannering would help anyone to deduce the cause of that blockage - bloody-minded determination won through! Let's hope you get to enjoy the car now - sounds like a hoot!

Top work Mr Bol. Sounds like a right pocket rocket if it's even faster than the 220, worth the massive amount of effort I'd say. Despite the rep I like the k-series, but whoever decided to put the thermostat there is a dick.

iirc there is a kit to re-locate the threemostat to a more logical position (possibly a lotus mod? )

I dont think theres owt fundamentally wrong with the thermostat being where it is... I think the lotus mod is something to do with reducing the thermal shock when the thermostat finally opens and a big slug of cold water rushes into the engine from the front-mounted rad and the long pipes going to it.

I too found that stressful but ultimately rewarding to read. Well done for pinpointing the source of the seemingly incurable.

Well I have spent today fannying on with this - flushed the coolant again and refilled it with the pukka radioactive pink shiz, refitted all the covers, heat shields and undertrays that go round the engine bay, checked it over for a test and given it a clean. It now starts, runs and drives perfectly and the paint looks absolutely great, I clayed it, mopped (most of) it then waxed it twice and it comes up like new.

Hopefully I'll get it in for a test this week, then I will just have the ever-present quandary of what to do with the bloody thing. Obv its pretty worthless, can't see anyone paying over £500 for a Rover 25 anytime soon even if it is a GTi, so selling it isn't immediately appealing. Could run it for a bit, barn it, or maybe send it out on SHITE CONTRACT HIRE for a few months. We'll see.

I dont mind busting out the polishing mop if its part of the process of 'repairing' one of my heaps but once its on the road, thats it!! I hate washing and polishing cars!!!!!

I kept thinking this was an MG and must have misread the thread up until now when I clocked the front grille. I've never seen one of these before. Looks like whoever buys this is getting a good bargain. Great work!

The K-series karry-on is set to kontinue as I have just won a 53-plate Rover 75 1.8 saloon with head gasket problems for £150!!! I see these weigh 1400kg which sounds a bit much for towing with the Primera, so I’ll have to kadge my mates transit for kollecting it.

Why transport it?  By now you should be able to fix a kettled k-series by the roadside using only a bent paperclip and an elastic band.

K seal and fingers crossed just make sure you've got your relay cover up to date.

You must be the K series King, I'm looking forward to the your 75 thread, I really can't see how you can loose at that price it's bridge money.

I for one am delighted Mr B has purchased another kettle as that means Bols K-series capers volume two!

 

It is great to hear what fixes actually work (along with pics and an amusing write up) as I for one am somewhat confused by the range of advice on the interweb. I have always liked the K and consider it to be a brilliant engine that is merely guilty of intolerance for shoddy servicing.

Advert is PROPER half-arsed. But the guy says the bodywork is really smart, the mileage looks low and it is actually taxed and tested (only for a few days though) so it must have been on the road fairly recently. I reckon its worth a spin at £150

Nicely.

In the absolute worst case scenario you could Ebay the wheels and tyres and bridge the rest and still be sitting on enough profit for a Chinese takeaway or 3.

Less than 55000 and giffer owned.

I would say your onto a winner as it's an absolute bargain it also comes from the stockbroker belt so I wouldn't be surprised it's had some money thrown at it in the past by the elderly owner.
