As Billy says, riding long distance on a small bike can be tiring. I rode to Czech Republic and back on a Yamaha 125 scooter. Even able to use motorways, average speed was about 50mph as lots of fuel stops (85 miles to a tank, but 100mpg). 

Wringing a small bikes neck mile after mile, planning overtakes and fuel stops, and maintaining speed at all costs can take it out of you mentally as well as physically. Good idea to take two days to do the trip and to enjoy your first ride, which will always be memorable.

What's a bank holiday weekend without a trip to the coast? 

Popped to Aldeburgh, had a lovely run down leaving before the traffic started. It was rammed there so no chance for the planned chips just picked up some bottles from the Adnams shop. 

You couldn't get the sea in shot where I parked so have a picture of a surprised tractor instead.

Yam 125 I had after 500 got pinched lasted a week and a half and that wasn't a long cummute before I bought a 600

The 90 miles took more than 3 hours from Lichfield on the 600 it woulda been hour and quarter or less

Def two days - you will feel better for it

And having g never done distance in any bike it's a definate

I also posted this on a maxi-scooter forum I hang out on, and one of the new inmates has been a long-term admirer of the Helix and bought it   The few survivors left in the UK deserve to be saved; hopefully I've helped this one on its way.

@CavcraftI was thinking 50mph but 40mph is more realistic with roundabouts and fuel stops etc. No worries about sounding patronising as I pretty much am a complete noob when it comes to bikes, I managed to choose my first bike fairly easily but choosing my next one will be tough as there is almost too much choice! I won't be taking my "big" bike test till Summer next year at the earliest too.

 

If you fancy a bit of company on your maiden voyage I'll happily accompany you part of the way back on the Saturday? Let me know.

Good friend and I went to Lincolnshire and Norfolk on our bikes today. No M-ways at all.

Him on his V Strom 1000, me on the Niken. The Niken is very comfortable.

Tons of bikes at Hunstanton beach.

Over 500 miles, just wish we'd been able to have a bit more time over that side.

I agreed to buy last October, but travel plans and Covid meant a severe holdup.

Well, finally picking it up tomorrow. It's a Speed Triple, and, at the grand old age of 61, it will be the first Triumph I have ever owned. I do hope I like it.

They are great bikes I've had a couple of them, noisy cans are mandatory BTW.

Borrowed a mates Fiat van- I have never seen a van with so many hooks to tie it too. There are twenty, in all eight at "foot" level, six at waist height and six at head height.

Don't think it's been easier way to strap a bike down so securely with just four straps. 

The bike needs a good check over and the dust removing, as it's been parked up for 11.5 months.

Cheers for the offer dude but I have a very loose itinerary planned which may be subject to change at the drop of a hat so will have to decline.

 The jacket I just purchased has a space to record my blood type......Not exactly confidence inspiring haha.

I made it the first 50 miles to Scotch Corner okay! @SgtWilson who lives in the Penrith area kindly accompanied me cross the Pennines, bike is running fine but the fuel injection warning light is on for some reason, maybe because it's been sitting for so long.

Probably had a flat battery and some twat turned the ignition on. If so, three heat cycles will turn it off

The bike is just as I remembered after the test ride 18 months ago, it sounds great for a modern bike, in fact it sounds like an 80's Kawasaki, the OE tyres are shit but I'm not changing them till spring and it drags its pegs too easily but I've not set it up yet, its faster than it looks!

I also fitted some heated grips and sprayed the rear of the numberplate black as as it looked shit white, just got to run it in now........like fcuk!

I love those. Probably my favourite new naked bike out there........And that colour looks perfect. Health to ride!!

Also.....top tip re spraying the back of the reg plate black. Something I'd never thought of before but seems like a no brainer now

I forgot how much of this county is still nice and green when I was in the car..... Plus I doubt I could have parked the car there.
