Haven't posted in this thread for a while but today I've an excuse to! Went to Hinckley today to rummage around in some charity shops for records and the likes and also did a little bit of shite hunting.

All very nice, I'm sure you'll agree, but a wrong turning provided me with what might be my favourite spot of the 2020s so far:

What's the betting that the key to one car will open the locks of its neighbour?

There is something incredibly appealing about that boggo, early Clio in that colour with the short reg plate. Yum!

! LONG POST ALERT !

I went down to a car show at the Austrian Club this afternoon, the theme was all things rear-engined.

Naturally a lot Volkswagens were there:

IMG_5955.thumb.JPG.66d2f3bb87ce123833dc787bf9ab24c3.JPGIMG_5963.thumb.JPG.9b82089b9430724077339aa647287819.JPGIMG_5968.thumb.JPG.eb34f3c69e51b39fb2d8ba1d11fb9bb8.JPGIMG_5979.thumb.JPG.06b964c2518107b68e03dfdada1fa922.JPGIMG_5981.thumb.JPG.08fa67da385692dcaa3157a507c681fd.JPGIMG_5985.thumb.JPG.053ca213c12871719bf8cbdb4372b83d.JPGIMG_5986.thumb.JPG.0dc57f3b38e347f36844fc59295a60a7.JPG

... and a lot of Porsches:

But around a third of the cars there were Renaults which was good to see, the first of which I saw was this lovely Dauphine Gordini:

Eventually followed by Alpines, 4CVs, and Caravelles:

I watched @dollywobbler's A310 review this morning, so it was good to see one in the flesh at the show. Great looking cars these:

The Fiat Car Club of Victoria had a small selection of cars on show. An 850, 850 Spider, 850 Sport Coupe, and a 600:

... along with an 850T camper looking rather small parked next to the VW Type 2 Campers:

Other marques at the show included this Hillman Imp representing the Rootes Group:

This Lamborgini Uracco, parked with a Corvair convertible (which I forgot to get a photo of):

... and on the other end of the vast automotive spectrum, a 1958 Messerschmitt KR200. One of my favourites at the show:

An entertaining show overall, probably the first show I've gone to in about a year, so a good outing regardless:

@barrett

I thought that looked familiar, it was doing the rounds for sale last year.

It was up for sale in August last year, doesn't look like anything's been done with it since though, the MOT's been out since December.

They still look remarkably modern, a very neat design., even in BL Limeflower.

Ha, I shared that in the Ebay tat thread when it was for sale. didn't twig it was the same one, but it's probably the only survivor in that shade. I hope it's in good hands but the other cars look fairly... stationary, so perhaps it's destined to linger on that drive until it dissolves

Potatocam shot from this morning:

The giffer driving it was giving it some welly; reckon he was doing at least 75/80, as I had to go some to keep up.

When I finally got up close, it turned out to be a 1966 Lancia Fulvia saloon, and not the similarly-boxy Alfa Giulia saloon that I thought it was...

Never seen a Fulvia saloon before.

I got followed earlier by a Landcrab.
In a tobacco brown colour with what looked like something painted on the bonnet.

A few from my village this weekend.

This is actually owned by my MiL's neighbour.  I wish I could remember what it replaced - another Rover possibly.  It's an actual OLYMPIC SPECIAL (as opposed to special olympics) and is rather bloody nice.  There's always something wonderfully Old Money about a plate like that on an "UN-NEW car".  Her husband's car is DMP 13 which was on a gold E23 (I think) for years before he took on a more modern Bimmer.

Quite a lot going on here.  The Plymouth is well photographed elsewhere in the web, but I've never seen the Metro before.  It was super smart (although I didn't get much closer as someone was in) and the Porsche was unique!

I wonder if the Rover Olympic still has its Emergency light bulb kit, which was part of the Olympic package

Might a torch have been more appropriate for anything Olympic-themed?

As luck would have it, I had a short video clip of the Lancia - 44MB, so too big to upload to the Forum - registration is "FAY 224D". Although the registration is from the end of 1966, DVLA records it as having been first registered here in 1997, so likely to have been imported from another RHD country. MoT history since 2006 is quite consistent, with only a few fails - mainly for the handbrake.

DVLA also reckons it's grey, but it looked more like very dark green to me. Clearly in fine form, with farty exhaust note and ability not just to keep up with motorway speeds but also to overtake frequently. All this from an 1100cc engine, which just makes the thing's performance even more impressive in today's context.

More Googling suggests the car is a "Berlina 2C" - as mentioned earlier, I'd never seen one before and may never see one again!

Even more Googling turned up a decent photo of the exact same car!
