Man with truck coming to take the Cougar to its death. Fuckin' shame. It's sat on the path for about 2 months. Shoved leads on it this morning, turned the key and it fired straight up as if I'd just turned it off five minutes earlier. Idling happily and nigh on silently.

Unreal that nobody wanted it.

Still. You live and learn

Trade in or scrap, thats my policy now. Sad, but dealing with the general public in my spare time is simply not worth the hassle.

Posted

I still try and save cars but if something is shit, over-priced or just plain unwanted then there's only one outcome. The slow boat to China.

Posted

This thing really doesn't want to go.

Popped the details into cartakeback site, they made their offer and said "you'll be contacted between 12:15 and 16:15."

Still waiting.

I recon a bangerist would have had that cougar. Its a popular flashy car to race at the moment.

Posted

Remember when Capri's were this worthless

And RWD escorts.

Posted

If a banger racer wants to come and buy it they're welcome. Their money is as good as anyone else's.

Posted

I know of a Sierra Estate in a scrapyard, it will be for parts only, but looked decent enough as I viewed it from 100 yards away in the Council tip.

Posted

Waiting for the HIAB.

Let's see if this lot are more efficient than cartakeback were.

Prace bets now.

Posted

Yup. They're more efficient and pay more as well. Cougar will be on the HIAB of doom on Tuesday morning.

Posted

A real shame about the Cougar, but I guess you can't save them all.

I suspect that in ten years' time, when OSF scene tax will have kicked in, we'll reminisce the good old days when 'they could be bought for scrap money' :-(

Posted

I hate scrapping decent working cars but is not much use as a driveway ornament and I have no use for it now.

Don't know what else to do with it. I've asked about and nobody wants it. Not even the Cougar owners club. That surprised me. It's about the best spec they ever did them in but not a spot on interest from them. If they don't want it its the banger boys or the bridge.

Banger boys don't want it because it's the V6.

Posted

I'm v.surprised Cartakeback didn't come for it, they've been really reliable in my experience.

Posted

They were pretty shit.

I accepted their quote and they sent a text a few minutes later saying they would call. They never did. Even when I emailed them the next day they said they'd call and didn't. I told them I couldn't be bothered waiting any longer and they'd have until midday to call - bearing in mind they'd said they would call the day before. They didn't. So I cancelled.

They sent an email saying "Why did you cancel?"..

The ones I'm using now are a similar setup. They made a better offer and increased it again because the car has alloys. I clicked accept, they sent a text saying they'd call. They called 5 minutes later and told me they'd be here Tuesday.

That's all I wanted. Cartakeback cocked it massively. As it is I'm getting more money and it's sorted.

WANTED

Battery for my SD1.

The one on the car is knackered and I have a perfectly good one from my diesel vectra which is of no use - the leads will not reach no matter which way the battery is fitted , also it is too big for the tray - the clamp will not fit andi it is very close to the alternator pulley.

I am in warrington, cheshire..

Cougar has had a last minute reprieve. Mate of mine decided it was too nice to scrap so it's no longer on Death Row awaiting its final piggy back ride.

I have far too many magazines and lacking in space now so all my "Motor" magazines are the first to go, there's about 300-350 of them ranging from 1955 to 1988, mostly from the 80's though. I'm after £80 for the lot and I could deliver to Shitefest if needs be.

SOLD.

Clarke BC410E battery charger/boost pack.
Works for 12 or 24V.
This is not some crappy boost pack that would struggle to start a 6V moped, it's a proper heavy duty unit.
These are £156 new in Machine Mart.

In full working order

Round post?

It is - neg post is near the inner wing, pos is engine side.

Call some local scrappies see if they have any old Rangies in? I believe the terminals are the same way round as the SD1 and would obviously be good enough to crank your V8.

Ill have a look when I get home chief. Are terminal closer to windscreen or slam panel if you know what I mean?
