I wish! I don't think there is anything I don't love about that design, especially the radar dish purloined off the roof of a frigate. Isn't the driver a bit undernourished though?

Change of wheels, change of figure and it looks plenty better and more like the real thing

Looks like something from Bob Jankel's drawing board off the mid'70's!

Five years before Jankel’s Panther 6 too

Designs such as this one were more Reg Hill than Gerry Anderson

this is the same seller Amishtat buys from at the Wednesday boot sale. He's not going next week but has all these 1:64 at £4/3 for £10.

If either of you need to make up the £10 weight, I fancy the deeper green Mercury Cougar Villager pretty please

Just got back from big car boot

Didn’t even break into a note

I’M CURED !!

I spent more on the £2 entry fee than I did inside

Hot Wheels Mopar was 10p

Corgi Manta 400 that had been through a bush backwards was 50p

Corgi (?!) funny face van presumably to do with the Disney Cars franchise even though I don’t recognise it, was also 50p

Cured.

Yes, I recognise those plastic crates. Couldn't go last week owing to time constraints so I'm definitely up for some Wednesday morning tat bothering. Which probably means it's going to rain like a horse pissing on a flat rock..

All this talk of Mercury Commuters has reminded me of this. Normally it lives on a shelf in the kitchen, slightly off scale but not terribly so. Everything else in the second picture is from a previous Tat Friday bonanza.

Hey @Datsuncog could I add the small yellow not-a-taxi Dodge and the Husky Merc to my tat pile, if that's ok? I promise to actually stump up the cash and pay, as surely I've the longest outstanding account! I don't even want to know what other gems lie within, lest it spoil the surprise...

So I shrunk myself to Smol Eddie size and popped down the auctions earlier, (all egged on buy a meet with @bunglebus earlier).

A load of PX’s had just rolled up... and off it seems. Cars were made of stronger stuff in the 70’s it seems,

I also thought only Citroen AX’s had plastic tailgates - but no Renault got there first ?

Towbar’s always a bit of a worry - probably been dragging a double axle or an Ifor Williams pig wagon.

“Never raced or rallied” too according to the auctioneer - I have my doubts, they definitely look like playground skid marks (or at the very least skirting board damage).

I reckon the last one is Gordini - it’s got red seats Smol Eddie ?

Excuse the dirty matchbox above - I never used to wash my hands much in junior school that’s vintage grime ?

Still down the (virtual) auctions, the next lot was much more my style - Cordoba Beige Capri II !

The flat bed was pretty funky too - despite the space age looks it has a commer low compression lump from a “Space Van”. At least the Capri was a 1.3

Was genuinely fair nick, sills were good but the back seat appeared to have marble or action man weapon damage.

No prop so I’d guess front wheel drive. Sadly it didn’t sell (I NO WAT THESE R WORTH M8) so the seller dragged it home with his new purchase from the other auction hall:

Sadly that was knackered too and threw a rod 50 yards past the key office. The only  course of action - could the Space Van’s 47 horse power (with a 3 speed auto out an Avenger) tow it back...?

Could it manage a little bit more...?

And then, a bit of a basket case – a No.64 MG 1100

20200717_163331.thumb.jpg.fcb186f3c089c31ff3c3c054586614d6.jpg

Say 20p, as spares or repairs?

Yes I’ll take that DOG BASKET CASE....  to do a Doggie transfer to a Mercury Villager

That way I can achieve a Matchbox doggie wagon one-two-three:

Merc Commuter-Merc Villager-Olds Vista Cruiser

So a Villager can join this party as a slight ‘code3’ along with the genuine MG and the Majorette Cherokee that arrived recently

Then the MG 1100 remains can lose its front bumper as well and become MG RALLY MAN

I can hear the wife packing my bags right now

A cheap Ebay purchase this week.

For some reason the 2+2 shape almost works better on the Dinky and Corgi toys than in real life.

Nowhere near mint but a nice model.

Does anyone know where you can get Dinky numberplates (I am missing the front ?)

Also would like the black van...

No bother - now set aside with the others!

I bought a tuf tots Corvette and promptly snapped the tow hook off. It came without wheels and axles.

IMG_20200704_115217.thumb.jpg.b34b8d3e383ce4001b91ac6d81478d85.jpg

So it got a resto and a superglued tail...

So glad the boat and trailer have gone from overlooked tat-box detritus, to heading off on adventures once again - cracking job on the Corvette, that.

Also mocked up Dominic's plan for the R11.

And found a door spring for the Mk1 Fiesta, didn't take much adapting to fit. I'm wondering whether to bother painting it or not...

There's a new addition to my collection of shiters' cars in miniature after seeing the real thing last weekend. Oxford Diecast make a black XJS so all it needed was a change of numberplates to make @Zelandeth's car.

Having recently acquired a few late-60s Matchbox King Size models with less-than-ideal tyre to hub ratios, I'll soon be putting in an order for some replacement tyres...

20200720_160842.thumb.jpg.5d899e665c566f0331440bead004fed3.jpg

...typically, they're all different sizes, so I'll be ordering up some 12mm, 16mm, 18mm and 22mm versions.

As the more tyres you order, the cheaper the unit price, is anyone else requiring any of the above sizes? Happy to order more quantities as needed, and add to existing tat boxes to minimise postage!

All of the above are suffering hub shrinkage to a greater or lesser extent; thinking about winding some fine cotton thread around each hub to see if that helps the tyres stay in place any better. I'd sooner not use glue if I can possibly avoid it!

Also looking to get some of my Corgis re-shod; eBay browsing seems to indicate that standard 50s/60s Corgi cars and vans use 15mm tyres, with 17mm ones on the Land Rover. Has anyone any more wisdom to share on that, or should a pack of 15mm ones fit the like of my East African Safari VW Beetle ok? These models were already missing their tyres by the time I found them, so I've nothing to measure against in order to check...

Posted

I need a load of different car tyres, and I'm thoroughly confused! I'm sure between us we can work it out.

I started writing a list of what I need to try and do a Steve Flowers order;

Corgi Superior Ambulance X4, Corgi Lincoln X4, Corgi Jeep FC 150 X12, Corgi Studebaker Golden Hawk X4

Dinky Cadillac Eldorado X1, Dinky DeTomaso Mangusta (Dinky Hollow fit over flange type) X4, Dinky Transit O/D 17mm treaded X1

Matchbox King Size Dodge Charger/Mercury Cougar X3 (hollow fit)
