I can't find one of these, 70's original or the new version for sensible money.

I picked this one up with you in mind

I think the distinction is the spelling of

as apposed to

Probably.

Meant to say, I called past the wee antiques place in Whitehead again over the weekend.

Which I definitely* didn't engineer.

As it happened, one of the owners had just brought in another few boxes from storage; would I care to peruse them in the office?

Well, that's not the sort of offer one sensibly turns down...

20200208_151912.thumb.jpg.5561010eb71129181ba41a928b36fef0.jpg

Certainly a mixed bag: quite a bit of tinplate railways stuff, and also a substantial quantity of unboxed Lledo Days Gone items which are probably of limited interest here. 1980s/90s Corgi Classics too, mostly 1940s and 50s commercials.

Also a plethora of Atlas Dinky reissues, both the UK stuff (Triumph TR2; Mini Traveller; Bedford CA) and French stuff (Opel Kapitan, Ford Taunus; Renault 4), both boxed and unboxed - although I do like them, I'm not really sure what to do with them - understandably, I don't get the same nostalgia kick off them the way someone who'd owned these during their childhood might. Hence the 80s Corgis...

This Oxford Diecast BMC racing team rig was quite appealing, though. The Minis seem to load into the transporter through the rear doors, Italian Job-style.

20200208_151720.thumb.jpg.f3b373d54166341592b2c7f460874164.jpg

Priced at £15, it seems you could easily pay rather more for this set online.

A well-loved but complete Lesney Bedford Transporter also seemed reasonable value at £3.50.

20200208_151352.thumb.jpg.73e2739bf4af1ccaa34a7574d1ab4e09.jpg

A few loose EFEs were also in evidence (though the limitations of my potatocam in a windowless room are evident here).

20200208_151347.thumb.jpg.47284b9961956ef454412f974b30f926.jpg

But maybe the most interest is for those here with a thing for 1950s and 60s Corgi and Dinky toys...

20200208_151049.thumb.jpg.1093b99d714425874ba038bf1fb08e6d.jpg

Okay, so we have more of the price tags which give @sierraman the horrors (though I'll take them any day to the distressing experience of pulling off an adhesive label and removing a large section of paint with it), but bear with me...

20200208_151059.thumb.jpg.5a6aa174adb2df3862632b6a58ff403f.jpg

Original Corgi Cortina Super Estate, with tailgate still in place; Corgi Oldsmobile Super 88 repaint; Dinky Ford Corsair repaint; original Corgi ERF tanker; repaint Dinky coach.

Repaint Austin Healey with homemade windscreen; repaint Corgi Ghia; repaint Dinky Dodge Royale; original Dinky Mechanical Horse.

Repaint Dinky Studebaker Land Cruiser; two repaint Ford sedans.

20200208_151115.thumb.jpg.d697163eb74f428dc2b3da1caceba419.jpg

More Ford Sedans, plus a Triumph TR2 repaint.

20200208_151112.thumb.jpg.b556a9f6a4240bf61c82417394dad941.jpg

No-name Royal Mail van (Morestone??); Dinky Dublo Morris MO pickup; Lesney VW Beetle (sadly missing its engine cover); Dinky electric cart thingy.

And then another lot:

20200208_145514.thumb.jpg.0ce993f7fee824a9e2b13a6b8416e8e6.jpg

More repaints along the front: another Dinky Ford sedan, then a Hudson; a Corgi Studebaker Golden Hawk; then an original Hudson with another repaint beside it; a repainted Corgi Chevrolet Impala; and a repainted Corgi Aston Martin DB5.

20200208_145532.thumb.jpg.4ff1df508c1146919983c1b9fe3b20bb.jpg

20200208_145526.thumb.jpg.acdf7c40bc3cb191525f585e71b4639d.jpg

In the second row, a Corgi Plymouth Suburban wagon (with a repainted roof, seemingly); then two Corgi Ford Thunderbirds with a Dinky Packard Clipper in the middle; then a repainted Corgi Ford Consul Classic, and another Dinky Studebaker Land Cruiser.

20200208_145522.thumb.jpg.09f1e6d1f0e4ea27f9b3fbf26871ca65.jpg

The back row brings us a repainted Corgi Bentley; a Dinky Jaguar XK120; a Corgi Riley Pathfinder repaint; an original Corgi Chevrolet Kennel Truck with all doors and hatches still intact; and then another Golden Hawk which is no longer gold. An unknown cheapo 1930s/40s diecast is just visible to the right - no manufacturer visible, just 'Made in England'.

Label prices seemed to vary between £4 and £15 each, although the majority met in the middle at around £10.

Now, for a repainted model - especially ones now quite chipped, and so needing restored again - you'll probably agree these are maybe a smidge on the steep side.

However, I guess if these sell for him online at these sort of prices, I'm not gonna tell him how to run his business. And I know we've been spoiled rather with some dirt cheap finds of late.

If there's anything here that particularly appeals, though - I'll certainly make enquiries on your behalf!

You all know how much I love a rummage-box, so most of my thrills here came with unearthing them, rather than carting them off home with me - but I didn't leave empty-handed either...

That BMC Mini / Pininfarina-styled hauler set seems a terrific thing to pump £15 into. In fact, if you were to take custardy of it and latterly punt on to an eager buyer, he's sitting right here.

(That's code for I'll take it if it's still there next time you're passing. Please)

Some time ago the splendid Mr Egg sent me a Minix Triumph 2000 he'd picked up.  Naturally I have since dug out my childhood Minixes, and a wooden garage I bought in a charity shop...  None of these are for sale, btw.

1372968182_Fri001.thumb.jpg.226de561dd1ec465a833e5335bb17da4.jpg

So while I was there I sorted out a few Mint-on-Card Hot Wheels, and one Siku, for sale.

1023737827_Fri002.thumb.jpg.3afe3280a34fedcb1be8cb8c9a2ecbba.jpg

L-R: Siku Beetle; HW Merc SL, Cadillac 16 and Limozeen.  Never been off their cards.  £2 each anyone?  Postage will be £3 whether you buy one or all of them.  Not the best pic, I know.  Sorry.

Now... we were talking a page or two back about storing carded cars.  These are some of mine: nails in the wall and overlapping the cards to maximise content.

1043227840_Fri006.thumb.jpg.f331ddb12a90c8dbcf623eb33bf8e732.jpg

Again, not the best pic, but you get the idea.

You have the elusive Minix Cresta estate!! Hen's teeth stuff, as is the Rambler. Simca looks good in that metallic blue too.

That was £8.50 delivered, which I think was pretty good. I've struggled to find this one myself, but will certainly keep an eye out. Chrome loss does seem to keep the price down - but for me that's not a major worry.

Is this set loose?  Looks to be

I took a look on the 'bay and saw new in box with free postage for £22 which is much less than I expected...  they also do a blue set with Mini Clubmans

Just saying, like.

Id like to pick up a cheap tatty paint transporter and paint it these colours, copying the one that Wayne Carini fella took over to Jay Leno's fancy shed, one episode

8477609562_f5daae246a_b.jpg

Then pop two similarly-painted BMC Pininfarina Landcrabs in, on a 'what might have been' theme

Heh, the reflections from the book I balanced it on for the pic do make the Minis and transporter appear loose - but nope, it's all still in the original acrylic box (see pic right at the top, showing the overview).

If it'd been the blue set with the Clubmans, I would have nabbed it there and then for myself! Lovely wee set.
