If you have the Rio I can make you rich!!

Rich in friendship!!

and £15!

Is that the snot coloured one?

I can't remember. I know I've got red hot and jet black, there's a Mayfair and Park Lane, some awful baby shit coloured one too. I think there's three three packs and three or four separate.

Next time I'm hiding things in the loft, I'll take a look.

I make my own regplates using free Inkscape software and the UK numberplate font, and print on to self adhesive paper. That CA I have not spotted on ebay yet, but I want one. Saw the Mini camper and I dont like it tbh.in other news, BROWN.

In a rather futile attempt to not allow Egg amassing a psychedelic plastic collection beating mine,

I obtained a white R16 that is straight as an arrow, but still comes with a twist.

It is heavily bonded to this:

Now, for many a decade, Formeta is the purveyor of fine teaching aids shite used in German driving schools.

What that Norev is bonded to is a magnetic base that allowed the model to be used on metal black boards in said schools.

A bit like this, just German:

This all adds up when considering that I got the model from a gentleman living in West Berlin.

I hitherto sadly failed in obtaining such a wall board, but until that happens, it makes a fine fridge magnet.

Re those 1/36 Corgi Minis, I went through a bit of a thing collecting them about 10 years ago and then again last year.

So far I have:

30

Sky

Flame

Racing

Rose

All of the above were released in line with the 1/1 examples in 1989 for the Mini's 30th Birthday.

City

Neon

Sprite

The Chelsea

Picadilly (baby shit colour in leiu of gold)

Advantage

Triple Woolworths set comprising Red Hot, Jet Black and Ritz

And a couple of late X pack ones, JCW and a Cooper

I only have 1 early 'British Leyland' example with the pre 1989 front on it, there didn't appear to be many releases of this one.

Re: the Minis, I had a 3 pack Italian Job set, circa 1993 I think, as in around the time Rover launched a special edition set of red, white and blue Minis. Like this:

Seems they did further Italian Job sets, based on the filmic originals (and the BMW versions) but where's the fun in collecting those? I much prefer the simplicity of the more toy-like originals. Only had one original issue Mini as above as a kid, in silver with racing stickers and bizarrely, a tow bar!

Anyway, have some images of something I totally forgot that I bought a couple of months ago. I'm neither a collector of catalogues, nor a Matchbox nerd in particular but just had to have this when I saw it (click to zoom):

3 Datsun 280ZX models?! Was MB-44 a worldwide issue?

Seems I had a fair majority of these 1-75 1-100 series. When did the range increase by 1/3? Plenty of duplicate castings with different numbers though and it never occurred to me until now how US-centric much of the range was.

Check out this outdated lot - every specimen based on a vehicle launched in the 1970's, in the 1987 catalogue! Never knew they issued the Scammell Crusader so late and also never knew Matchbox sold a Transcontinental, either. Always thought that Peugeot 305 was a bit of a strange casting choice, not particularly well executed, either.

That's better, much more up to date. LOL at the Leyland Roadrunner car transporter tractor unit but good double use of a single casting, a la Ford A Series a few years prior.

YAWN - but for the sake of full documentation, I've included these. There is at least one current(ish) Autoshite vehicle in the pile though. Can you spot it?

Nice inclusion of Blue Nun goblets and rose petals on grey background to add a bit of period class. These would probably all display well on a black ash shelving unit, I reckon.

Good to see a couple of exclusive castings thrown into the Gift Set mix, to eke out a few more sales. Incidentally, my brother had a Ruff Rabbit (not a very good name for a toy car, these days), replete with tow bar, which of course was useless with those wheels.

43444496380_ff72064ff5_b.jpg

Also the only way to get a Holden ute in 1987 too, it appears.

43444496120_8177e455ba_b.jpg

Again, included purely for the sake of complete documentation. I say that, though I've omitted 5 pages of pre-school toys, as they're neither of interest in these hallowed pages and there's just too much 'child in bath' scenes for my 2018 sensibilities.

Anyway, nice story about this catalogue was that I paid slightly more than I wanted to for it (as in, almost £4!!) and the postage was going to hurt a little but the seller was happy to pop it in my postbox as he was passing close by, so it made the 200km trip to me for nothing! What a nice bloke.

That looks right in the sweet spot for my brothers childhood collection, he had several of them, but I was 10 - so the only one I had was the Perrier van from the yesteryear collection. Don't remember what happened to that.

Thanks for sharing.

I thought I should give you a little update on my restorations.  The first batch is now nearing completion, and some of the second lot too!  In the photo above, there are five cars lined up from bottom left; all from the first batch.  I'm pretty pleased with them overall.  The Volvo had to be done twice, as the paint reacted the first time.  I didn't do anything different the second time but it seemed to work ok.  The two pale blues, Morris Oxford and Triumph Vitesse, both turned out matt, which none of the others have.  Doesn't matter.  If you were to look closely at the "brightwork" you would see how steady my hand isn't, these days, but they're not for anyone else, just for me, so again, they'll do.

I suppose I should get on with reassembling some of them now...
