Majorette Motors... they're pull backs but I'm not sure what the red pin does though.

Do they wind up and the red button lets them go?

My nephew had a Tonka drag car with a flywheel in and button on top, left 11's on any surface you let it loose on.

I did try that but maybe they're just old and gummed up?

The Superkings Silver Spirit is a splendid model. I think the weight of it is to the same scale as the real car!

Interesting about the Schabak with the Vitesse baseplate, I didn't know about that relationship.  Weren't the latter Portugese?

I just got a SuperKings Rolls the other day (with all the bits still on!) and you're right, however I wonder if the 1/36 Corgi Rolls isn't even heavier than the scale weight!

I had a look under that Schabak Sierra and it says "made in Germany" and "assembled in Portugal" so thanks for sharing that interesting information.

Quiet morning at the market again today. Wild weather this week probably doesn't help, but I noticed quite a lot of empty stalls again - not sure if a fair few of the traders are taking a January break or if they've relinquished their stalls altogether.

IMG_20260130_084121.jpg.0584b150de173c16182b383843a1006d.jpg

Colin's Irish Tat stall had more of those 2024 Matchbox longcards - apparently he got two boxes off the distributor, and has more of them packed in with his peripatetic stock that he takes to other local markets:

IMG_20260130_0837592.jpg.8de9fc43204c11946146b1bed15d8af2.jpg

No white Jeep Wagoneers for Eddy today, but he said he'll have a look in the van tomorrow and hold one over if there's any there.

You'll be shocked to learn that Paddy hasn't sold any of his boxed Corgi and Dinky from last week:

IMG_20260130_0841512.jpg.81648b05ed980327b29d4ebf02812283.jpg

Can't think why.

From what I can tell (and from what I've heard him say) his customers are all tourists - and I'm guessing he mainly makes sales to people who have made a hideous miscalculation on where the decimal point falls when working out the exchange rate...

More tat evidenced on some of the other collectables stalls:

IMG_20260130_0842222.jpg.655ebae9ff773ae14fe56e51e3951187.jpg

RIO model of a Fiat 12HP was a bit out of the ordinary amidst all the usual Lledos and Shell promo Maistos, but I'm not sure who collects models of this era any more:

IMG_20260130_084248.jpg.6d90a1cedc53616e94eaf68a6aa396cd.jpg

Other overpriced dross also available:

Yep, that's £15 for pound shop grade Minis and a tidy but generally meh Matchbox Dinky Commer van. No ta.

Similarly optimistic pricing evidenced on a place selling more contemporary collectables:

£8 for loose Pixar Cars and anywhere between £6 and £20 for assorted Far-Eastern no-name diecast? I think not.

Once again, Alan's 50p tray was the last stop:

IMG_20260130_0843442.jpg.81107ab534f5bedd5ec4f278af74db0f.jpg

IMG_20260130_0844142.jpg.e6f2cc2522da1cee247ca1dff009da26.jpg

I don't have a strong yearning for a heavily patinated Matchbox Traction Avant - nor a Tow Joe that won't be doing much towing, or a Corgi Transit that was more wrecked than it was a wrecker.

Ah well.

IMG_20260130_0910142.jpg.52b28ac5d57646323b5050c0c84acfbd.jpg

I made do with a very nice scone and a coffee, plus the black version of the AMC Eagle from Colin and yet another blue XJ6C - because it seems that my search function for this elusive one was activated in late 2024 and now I can't switch it off again.

Might go out at lunchtime to hit up the city centre shops, though it depends how much I fancy a soaking...

As threatened, I had a mess about with one of the (not) Metal Machines I bought recently. Just a bit of black wash and some paint pen action combined with a wheel swap, let me tell you, trying to paint bits in on a completely chrome body is like trying to navigate a hall of mirrors, my eyes hurt now!

That grille was off some cheap no name Hong Kong thing and has been in the parts box for ages, had some stadium shaped headlights I didn't like, so dressmaking pins with a flat sanded on them were fitted instead.

I'm fairly sure the front grille from the recent Model A would work too but I don't want to chop mine up as I'm doing something else with it

You can see how the casting varies over the engine, or how the back of the gold one has been hacked off. Pre productions are rough as man. There are more of these out there and they are well documented. I enjoyed having these but they were tatty and I moved them on (for a bit more than they cost me 😃 ).

They made a good move by not doing the production version in silver. It just looks so plain and boring compared to how the normal release version is.

Im still really surprised these colour samples and pre production ones survive.

The buggy thing is very useful for the wheels, I used them on a Land Rover! The Siamese twins are in my spares box!

(pedant) the Corgi Capri was always Whizzwheels, just the early version had Red Spots. Personally I prefer the later teledial as in your pic.

The Corgi Marina always seems to be expensive even for a total basket case

I've never kept hold of any of those 1/36 Corgi Buicks, I pass them to Eddy!

The Polistil Fiesta is really nice and I'll have to look out for one even though I don't really want any more large models!

Another 3D print I'm working on, not quite finished yet. It's something really obscure that I never thought would ever be modelled so does anyone know what it is?

I’ve been getting a little bit done in the shed lately, most of it being boring stuff like priming and rubbing filler down etc.

The Fine Fare Leyland Lynx is mostly painted, just got the chassis on the tractor to do now.
Last time it was sitting up high on the chassis though so I’ve modified the axle tubes slightly to let the actual axle sit up higher in the tubes which had the effect of closing the wheel arches gap by around 1mm. It still needed more though so I’ve cut back the mounts the cab sits on which gave a similar 1mm ish of a drop. Using a steel ruler to line it up, the bottom of the cab step now sits pretty much in line with the centre of the wheel hub which is about where it should be.
It’s tricky as there’s a danger of breaking the details on the chassis (fuel tank etc etc) when cutting it about. Next step, is to paint the chassis black, then paint details, attach the cab and lights etc. I think I might add a tail lift onto the trailer too.

Did a little group period test on late 80’s and 90’s Ford US cars too!

Quite possibly the lowest point of US car production. But I still like them!

The Cougar is a cracker! It’s terrible, accurate but awful! Who’s it by Dan?

It’s a partwork one! From the cars of Mexico collection.
All of those cars there are from the same collection. Being for Mexico the names are often different as they were on the real cars - Ford Cougar (Mercury Cougar), Ford Ghia (Mercury Topaz), Ford Topaz (Ford Tempo)… loads of them are like that but the cars are little if any different at all from the US versions.

Looks like some damn good work on that, but I could have lived without the fancy dissolves from shot to shot!
