Matchbox MB38 Ford Model A van

Progress so far -

🙂

One I've been meaning to attack myself, but I didn't have anything that radical in mind! I was just going to improve on the original hot rod version a bit

I really want to do this but can't find the alt coloured Espace anywhere around here. Anyone got any spare?

My Otto 1:18 scale version.

I've been seeing the black top one quite a lot, is that the one you need?

Yes, 2 if possible and I can build all the colours. 😁

These are my picks for the week.

I have got a couple of those 'Matchbox Speedshop' liveried vans with some decent playworn patina, which I was going to give for a sort of 'rat rod' / Hotwheels look (lowered, big wheels & a V8 block with big exhausts, weathered to suit).

I like your chopped coupe, id thought about doing one of those as well (relatively easy to chop as the pillars are straight & square) 🙂

That Camaro is a nice one. Lovely shade of blue which works well. That’s one that’d definitely benefit massively from a light bit of customisation with chrome on the bumpers, door handles etc and the grill etc detail painting.

@bunglebus and @matt79 nice work on those👍

I was actually wondering the other day about what the old Days Gone and Yesteryear’s stuff would come up like being used for customs!

I have, albeit unwittingly, cornered the market in Lledo Days Gone models, so I'll be chopping some about & doing some custom models in time👍

In the end I only took one donor apart, the worst of the three, which had a good interior (steering wheel and tow hook missing on the "good" one, and the suspension tabs broken off too). I have now got the choice of bases with or without patent number, although the other needs painting. I'll probably go over this with some similar paint and touch in the chips as best possible later

Something a little different today, and not something id usually buy, I would go so far to say I’d normally sneer at these giffer trinkets 😇😆 from Franklin Mint from 25 years plus back. Even better I bought them in an antiques centre who seemingly spectacularly undervalued them at a £10 each! Sure the mirrors and a boot light have escaped, but I can cope with that.

All I had todo was clean the dusts and dead skin off them 😉

IMG_9477.jpeg.f2066d50b02a2aa2c3e8df1ff57bb1f1.jpeg

They weigh a tonne and EVERYTHING opens! Theres even flocked carpet inside! The Bentley Arnage shape is captured pretty well, maybe the front track is a little narrow if I'm being picky. You get a label wrapped round the axle too, thats awful yet amusing me!

Front steers, rear has functioning springs and its nicely detailed under there too.

IMG_9483.jpeg.0e2a48b8668def81673dd521054aa4da.jpeg

Interior detail isn't bad at all for the age and the scale - 1/24 I think, though it might be 1/20. Electric seat switches, Walnut door cappings and dashboard too.

With Corgi having to skirt the licensing issues with this set, meaning that there can be no mentions of the series on the packaging, Tony at Professionalmania had some special sleeves made, as he did for the Profesionals themed ones. No mistaking what's inside now...

That really is a lovely replica of the original, which itself is absolutely brilliant! Definitely one of Corgi’s best imho. The blue version is my favourite of the two but it’s hard to choose.

My one and only criticism is the ‘licensed by BMW’ markings and sticker on the box.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Corgi (and Dinky thinking about it) did a really good job for the most part on colour choices on their products like this Mini?
I wish they’d done more colours but the ones they did do, were really good and very appealing. Somehow!

A little something I've been working on.

Italeri 1/24 scale kit, twenty quid from ebay which is much more like it.

Its an old kit reissued which I like, shame about the gasser front track/ride height but theres not much I can do about that.

The weathering stuff has really fucked my breathing, my tongue is burnt and sinuses are filled, be careful if you use it.

Did you choose to give it a Scottish number plate?  Well done if so!

Popped into a different Sainsbury's today, and caught them restocking the toy section. Had a nose through Matchbox 5 packs, Hot Wheels 8 packs and monster trucks without finding anything new. However there was also a box of these Pull-Back Speeders, and an offer on...

I know they're aimed at kids, but there's a decent level of detail in them, and moving parts of some sort on each. The Camaro has an opening hood

They also make some strangely specific claims about how far they'll go on the back of the box, we're going to test that!

I also appreciate them showing the actual car in the box, on the box. It would have been easy to have them all using the same generic illustration here

I emailed CMC about the boot not opening on the Mini, they suggested trying to pry it open with a paperclip! I tried with a toothpick, and once it was ajar, used my fingernail to apply a lot more pressure then I was comfortable with - and it opened. It's really hard to do, definitely not how Corgi would have made it originally I'm sure

What scale are the Hotwheels Speeders? I particularly like the look of the Camaro. I know they do some Hotwheels in 1/43 now, but never seen them in the shops.

The Corgi Mini Magnifique is lovely and as regards the boot, I think the original often flopped open and wouldn't stay shut so a tight fit is probably good!

They're about 1:43, as with everything Hot Wheels there are some generic ones, but also some I think are pretty nice

Purchases from the last week or so:

Lamborghini for Master SL. Good to find the AS racing beige RX-3, but I probably need to ease off the non-Japanese stuff.

Had the opportunity to drop into Smyths in Norwich today. Initially found nothing of interest, then saw the rotating carousel at the end of the aisle. Didn't know/had forgotten about this Ronin Run II set, the RX-3 wagon is particularly ace - be interesting to see if they do anything else with it. Skyline R32 and Supra are purposeful but reasonably understated. They also had the Lancer Evo from the same series, but I needed to limit myself. No sign of the Civic Type-R that completes the set.

Currently on holiday in Kos, Greece. All inclusive. Hotel village has a shop with hot wheels. Won’t be buying any though!
