I decided that I'd pick up one of the new 5 packs in case I never see it again - thankfully I get a bit of staff discount in Tesco!

Interesting that Matchbox don't do their 5 packs as 100% exclusives like Hot Wheels do, I would prefer that over repeats of the Kurtis and Caprice (and also the Mustang I think). Actually it's quite odd that they often feature older releases, do they make a new batch of an old model, or are there vast warehouses full of unsold ones somewhere? Perhaps that's where all the tatty carded pegwarmers go? The Mudstang in one of the packs I posted earlier is quite a few years old now.

The 10 packs are worse, one exclusive colour just isn't worth the money, at least the Hot Wheels have about 30% exclusives in them, even if only one is actually advertised as being special

Still, that '79 Nova is very cool, and the El Camino's a bit of a looker too - however Wiki says they're also re-releases, 2022 Retro Series for the Nova and a 2008 Heritage Classics version for the El Camino we wouldn't have seen here

Edit

Sheesh the Mustang is also a re-release, from a 2010 5 pack!

I'd only want the Mustang

Most oddly, the flap is not quite central

Having taken apart the donor bus, I can confirm that if you had the little flap bit and a very steady hand, you could cut the slot in a standard bus body, as the bases on both have the hinge it fits into.

I've also been trying to work out what attaches to the small plastic dot that pokes through a hole in the roof. Answer: nothing

I also wonder what was missing from the interior. Answer: also nothing

Siku casting is absolutely lovely, almost no defects to be found other than fine casting lines. German engineering!

The flap will be offset because whatever lives behind it needs to not intrude on the driver's foot space, so is shunted right of centre.  The bus being LHD of course.

On the real thing absolutely - it's just messing with my head being just slightly off centre!

Yes he does, all of those are in there I think. Actually maybe not Mini Sprint, I'll have to check.

@bunglebus Here's what the book has to say about Bond and Bond models

Nitromors is so weak now, it looks like we are have to have a second stripping session. When I've used up the Nitromors I have, I'm going to try the caustic soda and boiling water method of paint stripping.

The casting looks quite good except for some scratching and a slight nibble of the screen pillar.

Looks pretty good under all that horrible paint.
You not tempted to go for a non Dinky paint colour on it? Orange or yellow maybe!?

Nitromors isn’t anywhere near as good as it used to be. Probably all the chemicals in it have been changed and watered down over the years to make it less toxic. Brake fluid doesn’t seem as strong as a paint stripper either oddly.

I just buy the cheap stripper and leave the castings in a tub of it for a few days. I did get a can of Nitromors last time as it was on offer, works a lot faster. I ended up tipping the rest of it in with the own brand stuff in the end, should last me a good few years I reckon

I thought about doing a superdetail job on it, but as it is just a practice run for the Dinky Clubmans, I decided on a quick factory style restoration.

Hell yes, did you buy it?

I didn't, as I've a beige one already - but, if you're interested, I can swing by again and nab it for you!

Looks like some adhesive spilled from the card above and stuck the one below on to it.

I also picked up this yellow BMW E30 the other week, and didn't realise until I got home that the paint is all weird and foamy at the back:

Interesting book! Don't suppose you could take a pic of the reliant page?in case there's something I've not got! Think it might have been my Bond Minicar, I've got a Tober mk C, bought for all of £4 some years ago!

Idly browsing ebay, and I stumbled on this spun wheel Corgi Junior SL that I have had no knowledge of - it looks bloody lovely! Are they common (and I’m daft!) or is it something unusal?

The blue spectra flame Rockets one is easier to find. It’s one of those where they seem really prone to the windscreen pillars being knocked out.

Not a super-common casting, but they're around - I have a yellow one with Whizzwheels, acquired quite recently.

Gotta say though, it looks heaps better in silver with those spun wheels; never seen that exact version, and I love it!

Is there a noticeable difference? I've got most of the CMC cars but I don't want to get drawn into "specials" as they're not exactly cheap (I do think the prices are fair considering the effort that goes into them)

Got the message about the Oxford Diecast sale (with free shipping) whilst in a mildly compromised state last night, owing to cracking open a bottle of home-made rhubarb vodka that had been gently infusing since 2021.

Woke up to this:

Oh. And there I was thinking I'd gone off 1/43 models.

Apparently I also saw fit to order up a bottle of apple rum from an artisanal distiller in rural Armagh.

Note to self - keep phone somewhere out of arm's reach on Friday evenings...

Will pop those in with the Siku Beetle cabrio!

Thought I'd found another error car in B&M...

Still, that's one way to get a Tony Hawk branded Cruise Bruiser without having to buy a skate set.

Didn't look like they had much in B&M at first, with only stale 2024 Hot Wheels and 2023 Matchbox to be seen, but...

IMG_20250131_1319572.thumb.jpg.e4850bcae3b75eca4dc1c33fbdf11c4e.jpg

A load of new 2025 case models were swinging at the end of the aisle, plus Premiums.

IMG_20250131_1314042.thumb.jpg.ef17352253c23085e4b1dab9f185bd4d.jpg

IMG_20250131_1314112.thumb.jpg.11045e40d248037fcab0406a689ee02c.jpg

Ah, it had already been picked over. No R32 Skylines or Porsches. Meh.

Still, came home with a Morgan and a Lotus for myself.

Another CMAC 3D print of the once-ubiquitous LDV 400 factory minibus. It looks like a generic white one but is a vehicle with a lot of personal significance, albeit not the fondest of memories.

N387PNV.thumb.jpg.8a8dcc3f051749d030120997a4274b6c.jpg

My school didn't have its own minibus and would borrow this one from the neighbouring school. Many slow and uncomfortable trips on it driven by inexperienced teachers are the reason for my lifelong dislike of the Sherpa family and I still remember it making lots of noise that didn't translate into any power, the tinny doors clanging, the sticky grey vinyl seats and banging my head on the low roof. It must have stood up to a lot of abuse though as the school had it for 17 years and then sold it for further use, although it's been scrapped now.

These things were everywhere like a plague, usually with rusty back doors and assorted other ailments, and it's modelled from memory as I never cared enough to take a photo of it. Who'd have thought all these years later I'd actually get nostalgic for a horrible old Sherpa that traumatised me as a child?

I mean, I dont NEED one, I've had the Bluebird  Firenza SL in my display cabinet since they first came out, way back in 2016.

But at a tenner, I couldn't resist it. (Plus,  finding out that the 1800 SL version differs from the 2300 by having a different dashboard tooling was a good enough excuse, so I can compare the two!)
