MiniMinorMk3 Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Here's a fake for you. The three give aways are it is not in a new model box with the correct colours on the truck image, the tow hook is red and the BP decal is too small. eddyramrod and danthecapriman 1 1

I reckon a bit of attention from a file should thin the arms and shape them to match the rare truck. Were the reverse colour ones pre production versions or something? I guess they then found the arms a bit weak so beefed them up a bit, then swapped the colours over? bunglebus and sierraman 2

However there seem to be different versions. Some with a battery hole, some with a battery hole & little thing that swivels across the battery hole, some without a battery, some with jewelled lights, some without. Does anyone have a timeline for production of the various versions & know roughly when the changes were made ? It's just i'm a geek for knowing stuff like that, so it'd be interesting - to me at any rate 😂 Also how does the indicator thing work on the battery versions, is it easy to fix if broken & are there any particular versions to look out for ? Cheers The first Vega was Dinky Supertoys 952. This had the working indicators that operated when you pushed the side of teh coach down. It also made the wheels steer at the same time. I think these were made from 1964 to 1971. The version without lights is Dinky 954 which was made between 1972 and 1977. There is another version, Dinky 961, which is in Swiss PTT Postal livery. MiniMinorMk3 Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 The more small stuff that has been cleaned. First a small gathering of Corgi Juniors. Flaky Bug Dirty road roller Broken caravan with no hitch or door. Grubby Weetabix truck. I think I might have to clean some of these with a toothbrush and not just a soft bristle paint brush. Two Mercedes Mobile shops One just has stock and scales... whilst the other has smiling salesman. Next a couple of Majorettes. First is 1/87 scale Ford CL9000 Tractor and Trailer. This appears to come in various colours on the internet. And then we have an R5 Turbo Complete with knob. It's a Majorette Motor that does not motor much. I took it apart but there's not much that you can get at. The spring is probably weak as it does not hold much power. the red knob is so you can lock the drive and release it when you want. I did give the windows a clean whilst it was apart. andrew e, AndyW201, eddyramrod and 4 others 7
Split_Pin Posted January 27, 2025 Author Posted January 27, 2025 I completely lost my mojo after the big Volvo F12 truck, I don't know why as it was an easy project and went well. Anyway, this has piqued my interest, Rover 600 3d print has arrived! Very clean print, I wasn't expecting that from the pictures. Almost zero sanding needed here. I can't wait to get started, I'll begin by fashioning some glass and front light lenses. Tenmil Socket, andrew e, eddyramrod and 6 others 9
MiniMinorMk3 Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Next is a random selection of stuff. First up is a no name Chinese Aldi Quattro A Guisval Datsun Patrol Pick Up. From the decals I guess this is missing a couple of motorbikes. HotWheels Old Number 5 with no louvres on hood. Made in Hong Kong. Hot Wheels 31 Doozie that's missing a roof. Again made in Hong Kong. Hot Wheels '57 T-Bird. Is this a rare one as it is not listed without Tampo printing on the Hot Wheels Wiki site '57 T-Bird (1978) | Hot Wheels Wiki | Fandom Made in Hong Kong. Finally we have a Porkie 959 with faulty air ride! Made in Malaysia. A quick bit of manipulation had the wheels looking a lot better. FakeConcern, danthecapriman, morrisoxide and 4 others 7

Just a suggestion, but the windows and lights you might be able to use Deluxe Materials Glue n Glaze to make them. Headlights will work with it if you paint the insides of the light opening in silver or something then put the glue n glaze over it and let it set. It should dry clear like a plastic light lense. The windows you can apply the glue n glaze around the edge then stretch it across the opening with a cocktail stick or similar. There’s some good vids on YouTube showing it being done on model aircraft windows. You might be better painting the car fist though if you do use it. andrew e, AndyW201, FakeConcern and 2 others 3 2

Split_Pin Posted January 27, 2025 Author Posted January 27, 2025 Looks good from the video, I have bought some, comes tomorrow! I think the windscreen might be pushing it a bit but it should do a grand job of the front lights and side windows. Plus it will glue in the acetate for the windscreen just nicely by the looks of it. danthecapriman and FakeConcern 2

It’s very good for gluing in windows and glazing as it doesn’t cloud up the plastic like cyano superglue does. I use it on all mine for that. Tamiya do some very nice tint paints too which are excellent for doing lights. The amber and red clear are perfect for indicators and tail lights. They’ll look great onto the casting or even better if you paint it over clear plastic or the glue n glaze. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333389486555?_skw=tamiya+clear+orange&var=542443356956&itmmeta=01JJM42FTH3S3164W4F4C49HC9&hash=item4d9f8fd9db:g:72QAAOSwDXldxAdQ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlAkAqNRoqNznUqxvPLIncAOjODJSdybxH2zKxp2yPyAk3ySfPnvgwveYDzuMSF1VOrxWNorp8w%2Fq36ERoyGW6z1k2h6lIZDqQh1EsP2i8mbAlfqMV5sHwnDy2Yl%2BJL7nY%2BxR0bwsMQ%2BtLGhmsVpiU%2BpK9ssSTUb57b%2Bf8nZY0Uz7708T8%2FBOQB6U1CUdcg9D5UUpReeV1N5O%2FQ8TZ%2BT1qvErbZNFfiPXRxvAfX9ShERXwjf86Ik5PPsJhUCpMg3pYRdTEcfhNCyHC3Ij%2FRJ4w15qKUEfTUgwCCzQNW%2BA8xZw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMsv2JhJVl Theres a few other colours in the clear range but red and amber are probably most useful. sheffcortinacentre and Split_Pin 1 1

I have some Glue N Glaze, but only used it to repair the edge of a windscreen which was partially successful. It did cover the area fine, but was not an invisible repair as it was far clearer than the original screen! It says on the bottle it will make screens up to 6mm so I should think it would work for that tiny model Rover. danthecapriman and Split_Pin 2

Cheers I had a look in my Dinky book I haven't found much about the Vega in the main section, a picture A couple of entries here 952 & 954 Then again for a Swiss version 961 There may be more in a later chapter about innovations Dinky made etc, but I've not read that bit yet! I only have an old pretty broken one, but the four front wheels steer as you press on that side which in turn pushes the switch to connect the lights. There is a cam on the rear axle that makes them flash as the coach is pushed along. ETCHY and flat4alfa 1 1

You are supposed to be able to do the same thing with Humbrol Clearfix. I use this stuff to stick widows, lights and chrome plated parts onto models as it does not react. So I thought I'd have a go with a MoY. The window measures 6x10mm It was a bit of a faff to get it to spread but I got there in the end, note there's some air bubbles. It took a few minutes of turn the model from side to side and top to bottom to ensure all the gloop did not end up at the bottom or the top. Some cobweb from when I was putting the stuff on. It is like runny Evo-Stick. 30 minutes later those air bubbles seem to have grown. Another 30 minutes and the air bubbles are still their, but the pain has thinned down, it is still soft but is sticking to the body. Maybe with a quicker application, I double dipped to get enough in the hole, you might not get so many air bubbles, Also this was a first attempt and I could probably get better at doing it. However, I think you are better off just cutting up some of that clear plastic stuff that a lot of things are packed in to make windows. andrew e, FakeConcern, morrisoxide and 3 others 6

danthecapriman Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 I’ve never used the Humbrol or Krystal Klear before so can’t comment. From what I’ve used the Glue n Glaze though I think it’s good stuff. The best way is to cut clear plastic and flush glaze with it, but it can be time consuming and a pain to cut the plastic to the exact right shape & size. Again though, when I do this I use the Glue n Glaze to glue it in as it’s non reactive. Both these trucks were done on all windows as individual bits of clear plastic card sheet. It took ages! It’s even more of a pain if the windows are curved. One way I’ve head of but never tried, is to get something like a pin held in a pin vice (those tiny hand drills for model making) then hold the plastic behind the window you want to make and carefully use the pin to scribe around the edge of the window. Then take the plastic out and cut around the scribed mark. Easier said than done sometimes though. Split_Pin, MiniMinorMk3, AndyW201 and 4 others 7

Not really visible but the headlights are filled with Glue N Glaze as suggested. Side windows are normal plastic sheet and windscreen is cut from a coke bottle. Very fiddly to cut the windows to shape, especially over the dashboard, so Glue N Glaze might work better but I haven't had a lot of success on windows that size.
