Some recent finds in no particular order.

Burago Merc 190,this was covered in waterslide "Rally" decals, but a soak in water and a good scrub removed them.

The silver 300SE was part of a multi-pack. Mint ones are worth £50-£100 at auction.

Dinky Ghia put me in a huff last night, or more specifically the etch primer did. The finish is like sand, so even after a couple of coats of primer it looked terrible. I nearly stripped the lot but decided to try wet sanding it first, problem is there are a lot of nooks crannies and intricate bits to try and smooth out!

I think it helped in the end as 95% of the defects seem to have been hidden by the paint

PXL_20240508_163307138.jpg.9ce1602020420e26a2c2b82e6984628b.jpgPXL_20240508_163325345.jpg.1046654c627468f3ee69e75f7c496f0f.jpg

I couldn't get a really shiny finish from this Holts aerosol, but I'll lacquer it after painting the roof anyway so all should be well

Despite trying to sand the tyres down they still touch the body at the front. I may persevere or just accept it won't roll. Leaving the base bare as I like seeing the patent number detail that was hidden before

A couple of very interesting boxes arrived in the post this week, firstly a genuine Tat Friday Cogbox!

442476708_1127004031907992_5576164524259820001_n.jpg.ec3d4e449f8fbf9f4859368ddec65714.jpg

containing a load of tat, most of which I'd forgotten was coming my way

IMG_9369.JPG.4fb33084d3bdee03d2137583600a032f.JPG

Everything is for a reason, Mrs Concern is having the Matchbox Prefect and intending it to represent one her dad had when she was small (actually she's still quite small)

The Britains Disco I intend to renovate for Mrs Concerns sister who has been making (really rather good) dioramas using Britains toys. The Super 7 is going to become a Danger Man/Prisoner lookalike. The Corgi Mini will join the Mini collection. The Elephant cage will go on the back of a Chipperfields Land Rover. The RS Focus will join some other similar scale and era rally cars. The Dinky Spitfire (with genuine seatbelt!) will join the othet Dinky sports cars. The Elan will join the others. Both the Marcos and the Fulvia will be part of the Tri Deck display.

These four are all really nice!

IMG_9370.JPG.ddbcb588c41e3480354d62877d87ec15.JPG

So at last a genuine almost complete Whizzwheels Fulvia for my Tri Deck and how does it compare to my Fake Corgi one?

IMG_9371.JPG.a903f647b0579e4087af5b1fa1c8dd8f.JPG

The orange is a bit redder and much brighter than the fake, but that already had a Whizzwheels base thanks to Tat Friday and @Datsuncog.

IMG_9372.JPG.bd952789b03d5f64c0dbc74c7b247ecc.JPG

The second package to arrive was labelled thus...

IMG_9368.JPG.216df5087c480b5faec6567c1f7d8501.JPG

You may remember that I had a spare Corgi Golden Jacks RR & @flat4alfa had as extra Dinky RR with opening glovebox (no gloves included) and a deal was done where I've now got a Dinky RR and a Corgi RR radiator mascot! Another Steve Flowers order is going to happen then!

IMG_9374.JPG.7ddf6c7ad63e8ebf000b79f7ee6a2422.JPG

After I'd taken out the Rollers I found an unexpected extra...

IMG_9375.JPG.ece6346f990e91166503835c52054406.JPG

Very kind of you Mr Alfa.

Rather strangely having had so much trouble getting a Whizzwheels Fulvia for my GS20 I did find another one at the weekend for £2.50, so now I have these...

IMG_9376.JPG.d67e83330d2f1d4f8b777447b2fed66c.JPG

I think I have an old blue one with a grill and lights to donate to the nice genuine one.

IMG_9377.JPG.a9b256ff46e0f4c9ff505b92837c118b.JPG

So thankyou very much @Datsuncog and @flat4alfa

Stumbling past my old place of employment whilst helping local publicans (with a 50% existence rate sadly) the Portebello road threw up these well loved gems!

I nearly Siku Mack purchased but figured they end up forgotten in the last pub I just left 😉

Have you thought about a wash of thinned down Humbrol satin black for the base?

The multipack was produced for 1981

Bulgarian and Hungarian production ran to as late as 1987

Got a first release Lesney pre-Superfast 1968 somewhere.  Opening doors and boot.  Also the 1978 military green Staff Car twin-pack one, sealed doors and boot. Had since a boy.

I’m just waiting to find somewhere that sells humbrol, I’ve got one that’s had all the paint off ready for painting.

Bought a few job lots, one turned out to be a load of crap, what I thought was a rare colour Matchbox with its box turned out to be a rubbish repaint with an equally bad repro box, and the others are just junk. I was slightly more successful with this lot, Jimson Mitsubishi in a different colour to my toy fair find

Hobbycraft used to do Humbrol, but now sell the Revell range of paints, along with the Tamiya stuff. For Humbrol you could go direct

Humbrol UK - For All Your Model Painting and Varnishing Needs

or use these guys if you want more than just paints

Humbrol Paints I Humbrol Model Paint Range I Next Day Delivery Available (emodels.co.uk)

I mostly use Revell enamel nowadays (or email as they call it). Seems to work better than modern Humbrol.

Well you see...

A while ago I found this sorry state at I think a car boot fair, can't remember.  Was going to throw it straight back...

IMG_20240216_184415.jpg.a5b3913303875f1c53998f59a3dd41c8.jpg

..but looked underneath and saw this.  Then I remembered that I knew someone with a fixation* on these sort of bases

IMG_20240216_184411.jpg.30819ff5ec879589ea9e9ebf7a0728be.jpg

So I bought it and kept it back in the parts pile, because I wanted the headlamps off it for the tidier pair on the shelf that have an eye out each.  But not only that the engine piece - representing an iconic canted V4 engine no less - could* be used elsewhere.

IMG_20240216_184444.jpg.a1521283fda751e5c26ac5750735415d.jpg

Then forgot about it.

Found it again just the other day, and just in time to fling part of itself into a box going out the door.  So the engine and lights might live on back here, while the base went off to the Sussex seaside to be used perhaps to create another Whizzwheel-ified project.  How about a missing-link Whizzwheel 332 Yellow one with black bits to confuse the Corgi Collector market?

The sun was out, I'm out of work (again), so some photos were taken.  Hurrah.

The Lesney Matchbox Mercedes 220SE (red 1964-67) met up with the first-release green (1968) and door-lift (gold 1970) Mercedes 300SE.  'Door-lift', because it kept its opening boot, but lost its opening doors.  The cheapskates.

20240509_132956369_iOS.jpg.1b0ce27d47c064d39a9cd41b3539a2c5.jpg

Ok the green is not in the best condition, but it does have the full complement of opening things.  The gold one picked up recently 1) because nice and tidy 2) has one as boy and no idea where it went but it did have missing boot last I saw it 40 years ago.  So just had to, like.

20240509_133129087_iOS.jpg.07a27d30a243177f5959c11103619b52.jpg

But what's this?  A military green Staff Car exclusive to a (1978) Twin-Pack appeared.  Now, I did get this as a slightly bigger boy on Christmas probably 1979, bless my Mum.

20240509_141801034_iOS.jpg.62a27d1836e7739296dd580d4231a9ba.jpg

Nothing opening on that.  But look, the 1970 lights are quite worn/redone and they had also picked-out the number plate as raised and reapplied the plate S-TT152 for the 1978 closed booter

Early blue one is a thing of loveliness

Greens are pretty ruined

220 is represented by this decent example

Matchbox 53b Mercedes 220 S.E.

Why are early Lesneys so pleasing to the eye? Perhaps I'll line this up with the other 220 from Matchbox if I remember

Those Binz ambulances went through several stages of modification over the years, arches, tailgate, bumpers and headlights all got altered and there are a few crossover castings

Regular wheels should have the gunsight on the grille but they're always missing

Skinny Superfast got bigger arches but still had the separate headlights and opening tailgate

Phat Superfast wheels with even bigger arches, separate headlights, opening tailgate

Then lastly cast-in headlights and tailgate

Base changed when the tailgate went away

The early Superfasts can also have the writing up either way

I wonder if, like the VW1600, there are skinny Superfast wheels with the extra big arches? Probably.

Somebody charged you for this, crikey! You'd think they'd simply give it away? One for the 'just bloody scrap it' thread 😆

Can’t remember, but it’s more likely a deal for coins was reached for everything in my hand on the day

Perhaps the principle benefits* were attractive:

1) original headlamps to complete two examples on the shelf so not having to pay for repro parts plus postage and kill the planet some more. Environment.

2) engine part to put into something else and pick out the detail. Or just put into a parts box and sell parts box on eBay. Resourceful.

3) jagged metal part to hurl at the dog next door that just won’t shut up. Responsibility.

4) the sought-after base provided as surprise gift to a collector of those things for a project to be enjoyed on here. Collaborative.

Only realised this morning I've actually recreated one of the versions Dinky offered, I was just going for a period colour scheme.

I'll try and detail it better than Dinky did
