I’m glad those Tekno were unpriced, they really do tempt…. seems keen pricing though.

Posted

£15 was the top end of my impulse price-willingness, for sure - if it was £20, I would have just left it.

Not sure why some tankers were £8 and others which differed only in livery were £18; I presume someone who works there just fires up eBay to get a sense of what each model's sold for recently, and goes from there.

I think that's maybe why the current load of recent Matchbox and Hot Wheels are out for £4 on their shelves - despite the fact they're much cheaper to buy in bricks and mortar shops than they are to purchase online.

Not seen a Cossie style Solido Sierra before. Does it still have XR4i on the base. Also I'm guessing it was made in Portugal.

First French made XR4i with gold wheels.

Bloody hell you hit the jackpot.

That blue MB single seater is out of a set and goes for silly money on eBay. Not seen the Golf before either, Hot Wheels Hi Tail Hauler is in excellent condition too. World Class 57 Chevy I think?

Siku Caddy is one I've still never managed to find, and I've not seen that BMW twin pack anywhere in the UK

Smoll Eddy approves of them all.

The Team Matchbox you have, IIRC is from a game that did exclusive colours.

We all know these little ambulances, I think...

8=&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0

Many years ago (1984-90) I worked for a local produce wholesaler in Southport, and among the vehicles I drove for them were two T25 diesel pickups, A369 GFV and C279 KCK.  I actually remember the second one arriving in early 86.  Now... I can't think of a readily accessible model in any scale, of the T25 as a single-cab pickup.

100_1000.JPG.4de16d6300352558b00af1eb648a1e1d.JPG

So I made my own!  I've been working on these, on-and-off, for several years, entirely from memory.  They are, of course, the ambulance cut down.

100_1001.JPG.faddf9477e39ebe63a34fcee26fdfb63.JPG

The pickup beds are the two halves of a small-scale plastic artic trailer, chopped to length.

100_1002.JPG.363e5405e907d1c11da9d2de8d569c52.JPG

Signwriting is by Fineliner pen.  It's not perfect but a damn sight better than I'd be able to do by brush these days.  Those phone numbers were correct, but no longer exist as shown.

Posted

Love those pickups @eddyramrod!

I don't mean to be critical, but wondering why you haven't done the number plates since you know them?

Posted

Oh that's perfectly simple: the lettering would be too small for me to produce!  The phone numbers were tough enough.

Yeh, well I couldn't manage those phone numbers by hand, I do have a computer and a printer though haha!

Posted

So do I!  But how many plates would I need to make to get any value out of an A4 sheet!

Premium Classixxs have done the T25 is single cab configuration in 1/43rd. They have done variations of most T2 and T3 VWs and some T4s. They are/were made in limited numbers so are quite pricey on the second hand market. The quality is very good and the detailing excellent.

A few more projects on the freshly cleared workbench I’ve started.

Transit mk2.
These are the van for me! They look like a van should look and I remember them being everywhere when I was a kid. Then of course I got to own one of my own so they’re a favourite!
There’s a few available from IXO, which I have too, but this version is the IXO casting from the rally support vehicles partwork.

Looks like this to start. Nice looking model but not the best looking livery for it. Loads of details should be in different colours too which make it look a bit odd in places. But as a partwork magazine issue they often are more basic than the premium releases.

IMG_4274.jpeg.6e8c1ebf3d0832a4f2ae8daa2bc0802f.jpeg

Stripped.
This took a bit of work to get right for a UK van too. Being a French team van means it’s left hand drive which also means the side door is on the wrong side! I measured up the original then transferred the sizes over to the other side then used my razor saw to cut into the body around the outline of the door. Then added hinges and a handle from scrap plastic card.
The original door was filed down (hinges & handle) then a skim of filler over the detail before a rub down, then coat or three of filler primer and further rub downs.

IMG_4306.jpeg.aaf9c38e5f2b4f1ff098b4738e0bb2c8.jpeg

Painting started.
Because I’m such a boring sod I’m going to go for a plain white van this time as so many of these were. It’ll need a good few coats to get good coverage but so far so good.

IMG_4314.jpeg.4d06d0ab717e9ea732e7b904eeb280ff.jpeg

While I was doing that I started stripping down another model ready for another truck conversion.
A while back I bought a pair of these RABA wreckers. RABA trucks weren’t available here but they used cabs from other manufacturers for a long time. Starting with DAF cabs they moved on to MAN cabs like this model… which we did get here from the late 70’s on.

Im keeping one as a wrecker but the second will become a tractor unit (probably!).

IMG_3634.jpeg.3ca184d6f33893073bdeed03ea2f1909.jpeg

I got as far as stripping it for now.
Cab is excellent! Really does look like the MAN original, all it needs is the holes in the roof from the light bar filling.
Chassis is very nice too, it might need shortening a bit yet but I’ll have to offer everything up and compare to photos before making any cuts. Do I do it as a 6x4 or lose an axle and go for a 4x2??

IMG_4316.jpeg.23e492fc2c59cece627a65460abf522e.jpeg

IMG_4315.jpeg.553e310ad1d76ef12c516dba15847a71.jpeg

I might use this as a tractor unit for my low loader trailer so a 6x4 might look the part a bit better. I’ve got a plan for a load on the trailer now too involving another truck I’ve got (which has been packed away!!) so this might be a long termer.
But, I’m well pleased with that MAN cab!

It’s not my only one!!😄

Did any of them have the twin side doors?
I can’t remember seeing one with both doors, but you definitely could get them with the door on the other side over here, just not so common.

This ones a tailgate van too. One of my others has doors.
