I remember our primary school library having one of the Gumdrop books, can't remember which one but I made a beeline for it as it was the only car related book in there. I also had a book about a yellow motorbike called Skid, who was apparently painted yellow by mistake at the factory and nobody wanted to buy him until a learner rider called Pete (I think) bought him and they went off having adventures.

Don't remember the little red Metro but I ended up living  my own series of horror stories after getting one when I passed my test,

Never saw Speedy the Mini either, but I do remember Martin's Marvellous Mini (or more accurately Martin's amazingly strange looking Mini?) in the Tiger comic,

That used to be my favourite story in Tiger,I painted a Matchbox Racing Mini up to match George 😁

I thought he only wore it in a handful of episodes?

Blimey you're right!

Everybody knows Starsky’s sweater – the bulky white one that Paul Michael Glaser bought in the Mexican market on Olvera Street, LA, some time before he auditioned for Starsky’s role in 1974. Let’s get the few episodes he actually wears it in out of the way, and then dwell on the details of this fluffy favorite!

Starsky wears it in:

00-00 The Pilot
01-12 Terror on the Docks
01-20 Running
(+ a sighting of an early studio promo photo in Murder at Sea)

Just shows how unreliable (my) memory is!

Maybe another for the list, the lesser spotted bright red V8 DY-19/B

But get this - Marilyn Monroe had her very own Chinconcuac cardigan, shown in her last photoshoot in July 1962.  She died in August that year.   “I can wear this on chilly mornings when I have to leave house early,” Marilyn apparently said when she bought it.

marylin.png.594afe44fbe81e16f9df606310282dda.png

However, can you imagine if she had auditioned for a Spelling-Goldberg pilot show named 'Sandy & Hutch' in 1965?   Apart from the fact she would be alive, the whole world would be different.   The 'Striped Tomato' would be a Ford Falcon Sprint, for a start.  Probably handle a lot better so able to catch more crims.  Wider side opening for better wind-in-hair shots at speed

Hutch could have driven a '63 Fairlane instead

And for the sake of further annoyance, Huggy Bear might say "It's a '66 it won't be out till next year, but I know some people that know some people that rob some people"

Hutch, played by Tony Curtis, would have had a 1960 Fairlane

Here's something you're unlikely to have seen before. Why have I chopped this Maestro into a floppytop? It did exist but only as a concept drawing by Stephen Harper and was never built, so here's my might-have-been interpretation. Would it have been a success? I suspect not.

Torino was mid-size, so full-size Galaxie too hefty.  Falcon or Fairlane Sprint more in-keeping with theme, I thought..

I can hear Tony Curtis playing Don't Give Up On Us Baby, on his saxaphone.  Wearing his driving gloves.

Jack Lemon doing a cameo appearance, in drag, at Huggy's Palace bar, in the episode S1 E6, 'Some liked it hot'

Great effort.

Agree it would have sold poorly, if at all.  Idea based on Visa Convertible apparently https://www.aronline.co.uk/cars/austin/maestro/cabriolet/

There was a Montego that got the treatment in real life.  When it appeared now and again on the Ebay thread on here and elsewhere, it got plenty of ridicule

Only sold for £350 at King's Lynn auction back in 2015, so unlikely it does

Even more shocking is Oxford Diecast.  It looks like they still haven't done that Montego they promised, in either scale

The big Charlie Mack book on Matchbox lists out the full MB Dinky range, which is handy to have.

The 2CV might be one of the last produced in the late 90's, and if so is a repackaged Vitesse casting. I think by that point they were only being sold mail-order via the Matchbox Collectables imprint, rather than in shops.

The Model Shop in Smithfield has/ had a Matchbox Dinky 2CV along with some other tail-end models from the Vitesse range like the Messerschmitt Kabinroller and Renault 4L. Think he was asking rather a lot for them; more than I cared to stump up, anyway...

As it was such a warm* morning, I thought I'd check out the first boot sale of '24. It was surprisingly busy, even one nutter there in shorts and flip flops 😐

There were quite a few tat pedlars too, although 90% of my haul came from a young lad who's been selling nothing but diecasts for the last few years, and gives me the heads-up on anything he thinks I might like - such as this tidy Corgi Range Rover

A few more I picked up today. I actually collect old Irish car mags but have small collection of model Fiats and the 1500 is really nice. The Kadett will probably go to my brother as he has a full size one, a Rallye  the lucky git
