And more of the same, though with added Majorette... the orange Fiat Ritmo had lost its boot, although had gained some jazzy racing numbers applied in felt-tip.

I knew I'd seen that one before.

All the way back in September 2019, would you believe!

That's almost like 900 forum pages ago. It's practically Dead Sea Scrolls.

Where's it even been for the past three and a bit years?

Where have any of us been for the past three and a bit years?

I wanted that Citroen BX but my IP address was blocked for a while

So then, where were we? Friday Part 2?

Unusually, this time round I made a beeline for the Charity Stall rather than the venerable Tat Stall... The cheapo Matchbox stuff was plainly dangerously addictive.

748745733_IMG_20230407_1218082.thumb.jpg.f70f23b6f1e495ec82eb75dc2070a10f.jpg

It had, however, been quite comprehensively picked through in the intervening hours - perhaps not surprisingly, as the market was absolutely rammed today with tourists, holidaymakers and harassed-looking parents.

But a few more purchases were made, satisfying some - though sadly not all - requests.

1032914565_IMG_20230407_1218252.thumb.jpg.6b460de68ecf12b305773be35ce8c1fd.jpg

The Hong Kong Matchbox Olive Oyl car was still there, but in a bit of a state.

1095024340_IMG_20230407_1218352.thumb.jpg.a1923cbeae6afd531b930b6527448de5.jpg

So I left it for someone else.

A bit of light shoving and gentle elbowing landed me back over at the Tat Stall...

821070290_IMG_20230407_1220512.thumb.jpg.a964f06a9743187731238b7b7462778b.jpg

I'd hoped/ been terrified that maybe a box of fresh tat had miraculously appeared, but no - not today.

However, a requested purchase was made, so that was something...

On escaping the market, I took myself over to Castle Court, as I haven't been to this particular branch of The Entertainer for some weeks now.

Oh.

1972442783_IMG_20230407_1253142.thumb.jpg.9f8be894b2e6b8bf6baed435b940eaa6.jpg

Shut.

But... it's not Sunday.

And then I twigged.

Remember kids, Jesus doesn't want you buying diecast on Good Friday.

Of all the things I've done that would definitely warrant eternal damnation, it would be bleakly amusing if I were to be sent downstairs for this.

So, I called past Poundland, and B&M - there were more Hot Wheels in both, though only B&M had 2023 packs and, of them, only a solitary red Sierra Cosworth was possibly worth having.

But I left it, as by this stage I was out of small change and didn't fancy trying to pay for a £1.79 toy car with a bank card.

They also didn't have any Flying Customs, which was my prime reason for calling in.

A quick blast through Poundstretcher did reveal loads more Matchbox Working Rigs in their OMG HALF PRICE section:

2081044844_IMG_20230407_1246362.thumb.jpg.504a46a84aa018a9e0f61e3021f6935e.jpg

But, wouldn't you credit it?

They only had the one I'd already bought weeks ago at full price.

Bah.

So, with some off-brand Doritos and a can of fizz that tasted strangely ambiguous, I headed back to the (very quiet) office to sort out what's what...

I could have a go at fixing that, if you want to hang onto it for now?

I also have a spare Siku Transit in the spares box, but I think it's missing the same door as yours. Might have a better body, interior or glass though.

I think the problem is Siku hinged the side door on the glass, so it snaps and the door falls off

So this is what else got lumped into the backpack this afternoon...

First up, the aqua-coloured Jaaaag XJ12 for @AndyW201:

1008715729_IMG_20230407_1354092.thumb.jpg.0ef53bd4e3722ed60eecde049212cd42.jpg

It was there, and it's complete.

444515953_IMG_20230407_1354192.thumb.jpg.3715f0fdd18b93c74622acdae7d4cd29.jpg

Door mirrors have been removed from the sprue and fitted, but neatly glued and the box mercifully has voids in the vac-moulded inner to accommodate then and not cause undue squishage. Some bendiness to the wipers, but they can hopefully be moved back into place without too much hassle.

1270769360_IMG_20230407_1354402.thumb.jpg.ac0c1fc27fcabbcda267f6d5a77c973f.jpg

#1740 out of 1750, too.

Worth having!

Then, looking at the cheapo stuff...

1270874023_IMG_20230407_1348242.thumb.jpg.eaa3b37299e62d70f05dae81d0bb8a29.jpg

Majorette Ritmo finally getting to come home with someone after literally years in tat box limbo, at @flat4alfa's request.

1319745089_IMG_20230407_1348382.thumb.jpg.8af9950c6bc6117964afb689cbff2a38.jpg

It's rough, but I think that was evident before.

1402718317_IMG_20230407_1348422.thumb.jpg.e36fc9663a50333e3390c38455f55e85.jpg

The tailgate's not entirely missing - the hinge and top rail are actually still there. Just the sides and base are absent.

'Just', he says.

498480856_IMG_20230407_1348462.thumb.jpg.7726ddf17fc8a511063e6740165ee009.jpg

I'll set that one aside for you! Annoyingly, the split-screen Husky VW with the aerial tower missing and Bburago Seicento were both gone.

Also, here's a Corgi Juniors Jaguar E-Type for @NorfolkNWeigh, should you want it, sir!

809407912_IMG_20230407_1349032.thumb.jpg.accd829695657cc9819705daa01cbd48.jpg

Bit of chipping, but the glazing's good and the wheels have only ever seen carpet use, from the look of them.

1422825355_IMG_20230407_1349132.thumb.jpg.e62623b15109de0c1d300c58a4e282ac.jpg

Tyres like new.

This was a model I always felt unreasonably cross about, as I had a secondhand yellow one but it had plasticine wedged under the bonnet, wheels that seemed far too wide and very scratched paint.

But @bunglebus restored one a while ago and it was impressive to see just how lovely the shell detailing was under all that thick paint.

So, a reappraisal due?

1337889974_IMG_20230407_1349242.thumb.jpg.653a5d318788820129f6c457fe3b6614.jpg

Will set this one in with your others!

Then there's this No.9 AMC Javelin AMX...

687330960_IMG_20230407_1349432.thumb.jpg.df613cb4023538a7702f13cbb7462c6d.jpg

Just looked a cut above the usual dross.

1093425564_IMG_20230407_1349482.thumb.jpg.65b3bacd4dda433c69430c1af64fe5a5.jpg

Not minty, but is available for the 33p paid.

I also nabbed this second, earlier DAF tipper with regular wheels:

1874773334_IMG_20230407_1350042.thumb.jpg.d1f71a7a900b1baecafd12268b92a09b.jpg

It's missing its container roof, of course, but not too bad otherwise.

1907684836_IMG_20230407_1350282.thumb.jpg.fc2f1e43826d5be7d1b7f835f60af808.jpg

Interesting to compare the bases...

1981055687_IMG_20230407_1350462.thumb.jpg.bae689c02c3704a3e8d02b135f660bbd.jpg

And the front. Different (Dutch ?) number plates on each otherwise identical cab.

1860006917_IMG_20230407_1351122.thumb.jpg.10fa01b5aaffa71914af8d267378d445.jpg

Matchbox got a lot of use from this cab design over the years, and ditto its larger Superkings sibling.

Both available.

The jacked-up Dodge Challenger was one I got as part of a much-coveted 20-pack of Matchbox acquired from Woolworths one year, after I pooled a load of Christmas money with my brother.

700790021_IMG_20230407_1351452.thumb.jpg.94abaf6cb57b2e7bcb766d9fd6ed7325.jpg

The paint didn't survive too well on mine... in fact I'm not even sure I have the original anymore.

This one's a little chipped, but still much tidier.

1745058551_IMG_20230407_1351512.thumb.jpg.24e22f6c2a78fcd0e3a2557fc51ebed3.jpg

It's odd, but I like it. A keeper.

Then, lastly, there's this utter travesty:

1470084062_IMG_20230407_1352072.thumb.jpg.2f11616e7bf759f00d13474235795bf2.jpg

I think I got this just to annoy myself.

1424175186_IMG_20230407_1352142.thumb.jpg.75ce519008d2eb916b10b0c329534bf8.jpg

It's the swirly bits in the plastic body shell which make me feel decidedly peculiar.

1731713751_IMG_20230407_1352272.thumb.jpg.7317115e69a81ab07db6e0096c5cdcdc.jpg

Why make a plastic body but use a metal base?

1589716047_IMG_20230407_1352342.thumb.jpg.4630b7dab779cf566b265f7e1d7495d0.jpg

This just feels... wrong.

Apparently it was used between 2012 and 2015, and then fell from the range until it was included for some reason in a ten-pack in 2021.

1489721394_IMG_20230407_1352522.thumb.jpg.d21a191d0b5e16a18ddd00a4d0824602.jpg

I mean, it's very detailed on the inside (not that my camera helps me capture it).

But earlier versions had headlamps printed on... This one doesn't, so it looks a bit like an orca or some other cetacean.

951045730_IMG_20230407_1353182.thumb.jpg.1d2f0a5ea52aa65d326fdff7e1ed5c34.jpg

Mmmm. Not their finest hour.

Posted

And - just to wrap - there were also these.

373080431_IMG_20230407_1052152.thumb.jpg.6dc11580da1a954f979d384429917c5c.jpg

I've a few of these Opel Collection items for 70s and 80s cars - but not a 60s one. Until now.

1875708676_IMG_20230407_1052312.thumb.jpg.1d77d542ace33530bd5efc7c2e5d7670.jpg

It's substantial.

2082053149_IMG_20230407_1052382.thumb.jpg.d04318ac657b625f3cc62ba23eb3ed0f.jpg

And despite being loose in the box, also apparently undamaged.

I always loved the small Lesney version, so this larger scale one is a smashing find for me - and one  I'm hanging on to!

And then this:

1967820794_IMG_20230407_1050112.thumb.jpg.b0915bc83370183f2e23b6aee28a67d3.jpg

I've had a few Vanguards Viva HBs in GT flavour, but I've always wanted a cooking version.

863319959_IMG_20230407_1050172.thumb.jpg.bc81a7dc78965cd951bed8e9ad3f7292.jpg

I like the simplicity here, even though this is the comparatively upmarket SL version.

832967708_IMG_20230407_1050292.thumb.jpg.cf622aebfaeaa6a61755b502a8272c34.jpg

Door mirrors present, and not yet ruined.

322061915_IMG_20230407_1050442.thumb.jpg.76117e87e123a5a3d0d32d1a28718eaa.jpg

But give me five minutes and a tube of Uhu, and I'm sure it will be.

Another one for the longer-term collection, I think...

Posted

So - all in all, I think we can say that's been a Pretty Good (Tat) Friday....

I have mixed feeling about E Types. I like looking at the early ones, but the later versions, especially the 2+2, don't have nice proportions to my eye - to put it bluntly I think they look like a cock and balls.

As you say though, lovely detail hidden by the usual Juniors single colour paint with no tampos or even silver paint for the lights

If you think you can do something with the Supervan II, you're more than welcome to it!

I'm not all that keen to hold onto this one; I'd kinda like a really clean mainline version in white - the one Ford Motorsport used as a promotional vehicle, I believe?

Called into one of the bigger B&Ms in Belfast on my way back from work, in an effort to find a pair of the elusive Hot Wheels Flying Customs Shelbys.

There were lots of Matchbox, which was good in one way, but - not what I was looking for.

483120056_IMG_20230407_1723392.thumb.jpg.2f29c1c3babe5c75ff6206eadc7db3b4.jpg

Then I spied one - just the one - all alone on a clip strip.

523520449_IMG_20230407_1723592.thumb.jpg.c3c1f51ca59a5615d5bf6fcf98af29a5.jpg

So they did have them!

Somewhere.

I looked, and I looked. But I could not find.

There were loads of these Hot Wheels anniversary models, though.

702171059_IMG_20230407_1724062.thumb.jpg.484bc424128abc8107a8890193e591a1.jpg

Loads.

But no Flying Customs.

There were a metric fuckton of these semi-premium pickups.

724374966_IMG_20230407_1728462.thumb.jpg.ce5dbfd9341db92752486b62e18fb379.jpg

879063270_IMG_20230407_1728522.thumb.jpg.f86710bf43c98799c11ac7a83adaec41.jpg

Even a few Fast & Furious vehicles.

708137431_IMG_20230407_1726122.thumb.jpg.c34dd76d572d6389ed347aa9f4cd1bf6.jpg

But still no Flying Customs.

Then I found another one!

225629976_IMG_20230407_1725522.thumb.jpg.52c5b94e5b4b728b2b6f045a6a8b0910.jpg

The Tombliboos seemed to be holding it hostage.

But I didn't need a Firebird, or a Barracuda - just two Shelbys.

Eventually I had to concede that there were no further Flying Customs to be found in this store.

There were, however, some very expensive Mario Karts halfway up a wall, but that wasn't what I was seeking either.

981917091_IMG_20230407_1726462.thumb.jpg.f150eaaef04f23de190fe49c45a44c9e.jpg

Ah well. This isn't the only branch of B&M...

I’m not the Worlds biggest E-Type fan but that model in that colour was long serving member of the family toy box so yes I’d love it, please.

Also the AMX  if it’s still available, the one I’ve got is slightly trodden on.

Do I have anything pending with you? I’m thinking from the mad period of multiple sales, a Capri rings a bell, but I was plumbed into a few machines in hospital at the time. When I came out I was surprised by packages from @danthecaprimanand @Macscrooge. The pain meds were so good I didn’t feel a couple of heart attacks so navigating PayPal was a miracle!

Oh yes, I love that! Cheers Tim. In all the time I've been collecting Vanguards, I've never had a Jag XJ. Most of them come in quite sober colour schemes but it's  the slightly vulgar colour and whitewalls on that one that really appeal to me. I also like that mid-2000s era of Vanguards when the original style yellow slide-off boxes made a comeback. For some reason Vanguards of that era seem to be a bit more sought after. Collectors sure were annoyed when they went back to the acrylic cases with about 78 fiddly screws and brackets to hold the model on. Incidentally, with those re released yellow boxes, the mirrors were usually no longer on sprues, but supplied loose in a small recess in the plastic inner box.

Looks in lovely condition too, well worth a tenner I reckon.

I've had a few Vanguards Viva HBs in GT flavour, but I've always wanted a cooking version.

I like the simplicity here, even though this is the comparatively upmarket SL version.

Door mirrors present, and not yet ruined.

Another one for the longer-term collection, I think...

A lovely casting that one, from a great Vanguards era, when they were covering some great subjects, and they had upped the game with the detailing, sprung suspension etc. I've got a couple of the Boy Racer versions, one of which I toned down a bit,  tried to GT-ise a little, and detailed the chrome Rostyles on. (I was also highly chuffed at the time that the Boy Racer version had a local to me DXG Middlesbrough reg number!) and the white Brabham version. (It's all about the stripes with the Brabham...) Still want a GT but they're quite pricey!

I'm sure I can find you a red Cosworth if you happen to find the missing Pontiac Firebird from the set above!

Well I’m looking for red fords. Sierra or escort. Willing to swap both of these.

HEYU models

I am in the Philippines at the moment and have never seen these before and although boxed look pretty cheap Chinese models. There appear to be ten but I have only found these four so far. If anyone is interested they are £1.50 each plus postage.

We found a Saturday boot sale - in fact thinking about it we could attend four per weekend as two are 10 am starts and the others are stupid o'clock

Weirdest find was this Hong Kong plastic Beetle, not one I recognise

Had to go outside for this one. I had a few Convoys as a kid but this one's unfamiliar. Ladder is a bit of a monster!

Found the tractor unit in a different tub to the trailer, both were mostly assorted kid crap but there were gems buried

You want the common or garden red rs2000 ?  Or do you mean the red and black  version ?  I had to push some kids out of the way to get a plain red spare one if you want it ..
