Shouldn’t there be clubman’s on page 1275?

An Allegro, Marina or Midget would have worked equally well...

Never seen a metallic green Dinky. I'm guessing that it is a factory trial. I have the bronze in jewel light and solid light and various box version. I also have one example of the rare red one. I hve all the Scalextrics.

and here's a few 1275s and Clubmans from my collection

I like that, it’s ‘what could have been’ if they carried it over to Whizzwheels.

They did, just not those Whizzwheels

As there seems to be some slot car love here, I thought I'd share this.

I got bored during the long winter nights and thought I'd revert to a favourite pastime of my youth, customising Scalextric cars.

Sadly none of those creations survived the last 30 odd years, but I thought I'd still maintain the connection and make some cars from my youth, in particular, vehicles produced in Northern Ireland.

A dim recollection from a visit to the Ulster Transport Museum in about 1989 was that Northern Irish automotive output was limited to:

Some kind of steam powered horsey horseless thing from 18somethingorother

Various armoured Land Rover products from the RUC workshops in Belfast

DeLoreans

This didn't give me many options to work with, and as I didn't even know what the steam contraption looked like, the list narrowed further.

Eventually I settled on making both of them.

Fortunately Scalextric had saved me a lot of effort by already making a Delorean, unfortunately it was plastered in BTTF guff, like every Delorean you see at a car show. I wanted the pure design intent so had to carefully remove all the Mr Fusion stuff and file the body smooth for a quick stainless steel* paint job.

IMG_20230208_211105376.thumb.jpg.2601c23d3e56d34008b7e770965c497c.jpg

Anyway, that wasn't the exciting one.

 This was.IMG_20230205_160419454.thumb.jpg.06950329cce358388248a94f0dc856d6.jpgIMG_20230205_160436920.thumb.jpg.c9e08e04bbacbee82cc39f3e78ad44bb.jpg

Not terribly accurate, but a lot of fun to build. I was always fascinated by the Tangis when I was young, they used to sweep past my dad's Volvo 240 at what seemed like outrageous speeds for a big Land Rover, accompanied by a lovely V8 roar.

The inaugural Norn Iron street racing championship was a predictable affair, the Delorean streaked away thanks to modern Scalextric 'sticks like shit' handling , however the Tangi had me giggling like a school kid as it slo-mo drifted round every bend. Eventually, due to its weight, I had to give the motor and controller a rest as they smelt HOT, but it's a firm favourite already.

Ah crap I never noticed that! I didn't know Jotus made their own models but then it's a while since I've been on there.

If @Rover414 doesn't want it and it's a tenner or under I would be interested.

Oh, crikey, well spotted, @Rover414 on that one! I dismissed it as an ECW Bristol VR at first, but yeah, it's rather rarer than that.

In the interests of full disclosure, some purchasing was done earlier.

This lot.

See, I felt a bit sorry for the Limeflower Marina, rattling round loose in its box, so felt it incumbent on me to perform a rescue of sorts.

In fact, most of the hard-boxed stuff today was unsecured and bashing around inside along with the screws and plastic spacers, which wasn't really helping matters for anyone.

All for the want of a small screwdriver.

I've already a Marina 1.8 in Teal in the Cog Collection, but I kinda like the little split nose seen on the early 1.3 versions. I'd noticed a pale Marina just about visible in the pics and hoped it was the Sandglow version - but Limeflower's still pretty good.

Other than a slightly wonky wiper, it's in good shape.

Ditto the Oxford Daimler DS420 limo.

Just as the actual car's a monster of a thing, so's the model.

I'll post up some better pics of these two at a later date, sure.

The Pat Moss Monte Carlo A40 for @AndyW201 is in fairly decent fettle too.

The 'collector card' is a bit creased, but still present.

One of 1,500, apparently.

Collect 'em all, kids.

And a quick stop-off at B&M Newtownabbey yielded these on the Matchbox clipstrips:

Yup, that's a Carrera for @eddyramrod - assuming I've got the right model, I'll be able to get your latest tat box packed and sent!

I just like the Mk1 Civic; and I don't have a red one yet.

But I do now.

Dinky AEC tanker is one I never had when they were current. Ford tilt-cab is one I had as a kid and wrecked.  Boxed DAF 95 is one I've never even seen before, and it's by Tekno!

No, these are not from Dan, amazingly.  These came from Jon (dugong/alcyonecorporation) over Facebook.  I love a clearout, as long as it's someone else's!  He had some 1/18s too, a couple of which I really fancied, but I couldn't afford them.  Which wasn't surprising, I know that what he was asking was realistic.  Never mind...

Those Tekno trucks were very sort after 20 years ago, then Corgi started releasing their trucks and the prices started to drop.

By the way, Corgi are still on their stupid path of pandering to fans of Fords. Of the latest 2023 releases shown on their site, only 1 of 13 is a non-Ford. It is a new colour for the Triumph Stag. They have announced that they are releasing a Red Astra Mk2 GTE, but the next two new castings are again Ford, Mk2 Capri (so they can release three car sets featuring all 3 marks) and the latest Mustang Coupe. They just are not listening to collectors who are bored to the back teeth of Fords.

Was going to say it's nice to see the early J-reg Marinas correctly modelled with the right-way-round wipers, but it seems most Vanguards Marinas are like that and therefore wrong :(

Yep, it's a shame. Even if they're not prepared to spend the money on new tooling, there's existing tooling they could at least do some recolours of. I just can't understand why they've done another Mk2 Astra, when the Vauxhalls that  the collectors are screaming for are the MK3 Cavalier and Nova (castings that already exist). I can't see me getting that many again this year. I only got the Escort Cossie as it's a car I've wanted a model of for a while and the Escort MK2 Sport was in a colour scheme that interested me. I'll probably see what the Mk2 Capri ends up like, as I do think there is demand for a MK2 model and if they listen to the collectors and do a Minder version, it should do well.

As for the modern Fords, IMO they've pissed development costs up the wall, which they could have used on other castings. The Focus RS and ST may do well, apparently the blue RS is sold out already on pre-order, but there are only so many versions they'll be able to do of that casting.

I'm looking at Solido at the moment. Theyre currently doing a range of '80s and '90s European neo-classics, Citroen BX GTi, Pug 205 Dimma, Pug 306 S16, Golf MK2 Rallye, BMW E34 Alpina, Merc 560SEC AMG, all sorts. '80s and '90s retro/hot hatches is where all the interest is now apparently. Corgi could capitalise on this with new and existing castings but...

Three months later but I got this in my Secret Shite Santa. Had a few tires missing and needed a clean.

There's some interesting French stuff in that Solido range that has not been modelled very much.

I think the IXO and it's sister ranges Premium X, J-Collection and IST cover just about every modelling subject possible, apart from old British stuff.

Unfortunately* my favourite antique shop in Linlithgow has not closed down so I had to go in. He had a good selection of diecast on display. I was tempted by a 1.18 scale Polistil Porsche 959 but instead I just had my usual blether with the proprietor about Rovers.

This was in the Red Cross charity shop for £1.50 which is more like it.

Damaged screen but otherwise serviceable, I have the Superfast one from my childhood and I did used to have one as a kid which I badly repainted in Strathclyde orange and black, together with a knockoff Playart example.

I suspect in a way  they are listening to collectors.

Diecast auction prices have been on the rise since last year and anything Ford fetches top money. Dealers would not be paying those high prices, if they thought they wouldn't get there money back.

Fords fetch higher prices than any other mark, when retailing.

Corgi are just following the market. They are a business. They have too.

I think it’s tremendously boring when it’s just non stop Ford Transits etc but as above you run a business towards what your market research tells you and where the money is. I’m sure they could make a cracking Talbot Solara but it wouldn’t sell like a model of a Escort whatever. Boring I know but that’s how it is.
