My last Corgi Catalogue, 1972...

I would have been 13 and starting to think I was too old for toy cars while still loving them. I was by then into making Airfix models in a big way as well...

This is the best sort of front cover...

194879178_Scan_20191017(4).thumb.jpg.dc927ad53300a53389defa7730de1f71.jpg

I know I hated the Corgi Technocrats and thought them childish and patronising, bring back the Corgi Story!

1211026346_Scan_20191017(5).thumb.jpg.117f382a34de5caec48a0c8dcd4cb053.jpg

Someone had discovered the Pantone pen...

I fancied the Capri dragster, but I would have probably tried to make it look like a road car and ruined it...184980359_Scan_20191017(6).thumb.jpg.215219a29ce5acb00847cd62cb13befe.jpg

I have a Merc 350SL and it looks nothing like the rendering shown here...

1460406596_Scan_20191017(7).thumb.jpg.7a3cacb670f36bc85a66d3347ce1e14e.jpg

They still use the lovely line drawings to show details though...

1669103239_Scan_20191017(8).thumb.jpg.c61024812a82a3618b9a49cb8b681fbc.jpg

The drawings of the competition cars in the lower corners look like the artist has never seen either the models or the real thing, they look like they escaped from A-ha's Take on Me video...

1742717566_Scan_20191017(9).thumb.jpg.32e140c4621fae114ae0db7354972038.jpg

More of those drawings, why are they there?

462825170_Scan_20191017(10).thumb.jpg.e3d2dac1ddd5c01766fc572489a53911.jpg

At last Graham Hill posing with his Cortina, no mention of Project X now...

An actual photo of Daf City Car...

Amazing they still sold the Mini & bubble car, I remember having them when very young...

I never aquired the piss colour Marina, pretty sure I bought Graham's GXL instead (although mine's bronze colour)...

The Green Hornet was a masked vigilante, much like Batman.  In fact the TV series was made by the same studio and they made crossover appearances in each other's shows.  He was a newspaper owner named Britt Reid, played by Van Johnson IIRC, with a chauffeur named Kato who was played by Bruce Lee.  There was a film not many years ago with Seth Rogen (?) in the part.  They built a bunch of cars for the new film, all customised Imperials very much like the original which Corgi reproduced so well.  For a series that was barely aired over here, the car stayed in the catalogue for a surprisingly long time, and it's not hard to pick them up used.

You can get them on eBay - check your wheel size and type carefully though, there are many variations.

Yeah, been to that one three times, it’s on my way home from work. Saturday I thought I’d hit up the other megastore on Infirmary Rd, bizarre how they have 2 huge shops less that 1/2 a mile from one another but the closest one to where I live is 7 miles away. Anyway it had been picked over, I’ve got my dad on the case now, where he lives the average age of the people living there is about 150, so hopefully the ‘collectors’ won’t have picked over in his store. Once I’ve got more than one I’m planning on making a replica Tenerife Taxi from one.

You really need the Edward Force book, covers all the releases up until ‘82. It’s been out of print now for some years but you could pick a copy up on Fleabay.

Thanks for scanning those FC, a really interesting period in Corgi's range. A mix of 60's hangovers such as the Oldsmobile Tornado and the non-opening Mini and the Mercedes, Cortina and Marina.

The above mentioned Mercedes SL is an odd one as compared to the Marina and Cortina, its a lot more detailed, particularly the chrome window trims. I didnt know what to make of mine at first but I really like it now.

Interesting that they made Bentley & Rolls versions of the same car.The Toyota 2000 GT is an odd one as all the real cars were coupes, the convertible was only made for the James Bond  film & they carried on using the casting as a normal car

Been going through some boxes in the loft and found these.

Two Dinky Triumph 1300 's

IMG_20191020_171527.thumb.jpg.b19a0df8a5bf32f1e18c8eb73a8d58ae.jpg

One original tatty with a tyre missing. The other I was going to do as my car and never finished it. The boot is currently missing but I know its in one of the boxes somewhere. I may finish it one day.

Then there's this Dinky 2000. IMG_20191020_171542.thumb.jpg.a4eb8a5f6f49b555beddd5489e19a74f.jpg

Painted by someone else to a reasonable standard. The 2000 is a much nicer proportioned model than the 1300.

Next is this cheap plastic 2000. No idea where I got this from. IMG_20191020_171557.thumb.jpg.c93e02e58de28de4977374346047196b.jpg

This all it has underneath

IMG_20191020_171641.thumb.jpg.1bc776ba0161bd233bb30d5402f31dea.jpg

There's a sort of logo next to the no.2 but it means nothing to me.

And finally.

IMG_20191020_171652.thumb.jpg.1771ef0f4de64e3bf1ed223265c654e7.jpg

So I have three sizes of mk1 2000

Aha, most of my childhood we didn't have a TV, but I knew of Batman from all the enacted "Dinner, dinner, dinner" stuff and other kids swapping Batman bubble gum cards and so on while nothing about Green Hornets!

OK thanks for that. I had had a quick look on ebay, but kind of hoped there would be some website that made it a bit simpler since as you say there are lots of types. The one I was looking for recently is for a Dinky Mini Moke and the tyres are sort of plastic rather than the usual rubber ones.

Yes that Merc is strange compared to all the others as it doesn't even have the normal state of the art Whizzwheels, but a pretty good representation of the real thing!

I've never been a fan of Matchbox as I always prefered the Corgi/Dinky size cars, but that catalogue is great really documenting all the models so well and there are so many of them! Thanks to @bunglebus

@Split_Pin The SL isn't quite as good as it looks in the pics, but I did buy it new!

Anyway here is a scan of my 1970 Dinky catalogue...

Front cover has all the cars layed out, I love this style...I can try and spot all the models I have...

2103744865_Scan_20191017(5).thumb.jpg.eeec0e3d5ec86aa45a16b9624861f4e7.jpg

Very strange how they used renderings of the models rather than photos...

I would have prefered photos really...

Just looking at the first page of cars reminds me that the vast majority of my cars were Corgi, I only had the HA Viva and a Volvo P1800 with a missing door that someone gave me out of all of those...

1185758726_Scan_20191017(6).thumb.jpg.fd3952a1bad65640598167524d9d029f.jpg

Some of these renderings are pretty bad, but also some of the models weren't all that accurate either.

I would have loved the Zodiac with four opening doors, but never got one...

The Mk2 Cortina was one of my faves at the time, but the stickers were all paper, including the Lotus side stripes (which had the no 7 attached to them) so they got really tatty very quickly...

Thanks for that. I had a few of those and coveted many of the others but never got them. The AEC tanker was one of the prides of my fleet.

Half of those I never even knew existed and some of the others I hadn't seen for 40 years.

The water pump on the Merryweather fire engine doesn't mean the water pump on the engine. You could fill it with water and squirt it out of the hose I think. The memory is very hazy now but I think there was a plunger type pump somewhere much like windscreen washer pumps of the time.

Prepare for memory de-hazing!

You could make a hose from from windscreen washer tubing. At the moment it looks more like a water canon for stopping following cars, more of a Bond feature really.

I had the Transit Dinky kit. It came with the driver's door sliding and the rear doors opening as well.

Also had the Spitfire and the brown RR. In fact it wasn't many years ago I sold the RR, still in its box for around £45.

I have the commodore - metallic blue with black roof.

The Gerry Anderson dinkies are my personal favourites. However the pink panther car is an abomination. It has a giant wheel in the middle of the model. Shite.
