  1. BL Cars at Milton Keynes Museum Sunday 30th September. I am guessing a number of forum members will be there. My plan is to take along our silver MG Metro MK1 if anybody wants to say Hi.
  2. These discussions happened over in Squire Dawson's thread about his gorgeous Humber... eddyramrod, on 23 Sept 2018 - 12:10 PM, said: chaseracer, on 23 Sept 2018 - 1:20 PM, said: eddyramrod, on 23 Sept 2018 - 8:01 PM, said: Hooli, on 25 Sept 2018 - 9:33 PM, said: That was five years ago, and I could drive then! However, yes, the principle is sound and you would all be most welcome. New thread on way... And lo, here is that new thread, specifically for the purpose. A single day is going to be enough. What do we think of Sunday October 21st at the Lakeland Motor Museum?
  3. New venue just announced for FOTU 2019 - Saturday 20 July, 10am to 4pm at Claydon House, MK18 2EX (same general area as Stowe). Would make a nice 6-mile jaunt through the north Bucks countryside from the Field of Dreams. Concours applications open in January and general spectator/classic tickets will be available in March. Entry criteria has been widended too and it now says it's open to "unexceptional classics from 1966 to 1996".
  4. I think I am going to take the E30 BMW along tomorrow. Banbury Classic Car and Bike Meet - January Meet Sunday, 13 January 2019 from 10:00-13:00 Reg’s Café Unit3 Thorpe Way Banbury OX16 4SP
  5. Next one is 26th. Anyone up for a meet up We all seem to go but miss each other
  6. Details here: http://www.woodclass.com Anyone been before? Any good?
  7. I awoke, in a Campervan cold enough to freeze Jack Frost’s balls off. Having fixed the indicator fuse the day before we had travelled up to the Lakes. Having successfully lowered the tone on our campsite (ours being the oldest van there by at least 15 years, having a blowing exhaust, and the only one with visible rust). We set off for the Lakeland Motor museum. A building which resembled a rural Ikea but filled with motoring joy rather than furniture misery. The reason for said trip was the Hubnut social, or HubMeet as we called it. Sure enough on arrival it was clear that the Welsh Wizard himself was in attendance! His Rover of BASe glory sat resplendently in the dappled sunshine. Some Minis arrived and assembled themselves in red white and blue, mine and DavidFowler’s day was made there and then when an Alfa turned up to complete the Italian Job picture. An assortment of my favourites, not all were HubNutters (the official term for those with an affinity for said YouTube channel) Complete with dealer plates from Dan Dan the Nissan Man... And this bonkers thing was awesome! Of course there were some proper classics too So proper a video was filmed complete with back seat drivers. Mrs_Nova, Mr Fowler and I also peruses the museum. But by the end only the hardcore of shiters remained. Not pictured: the epic static caravan, the bit where we had 5 drinking tea in the Camper, Memphis the doggo, Sian’s epic crisp butties, the 9000 mile russet Brown Allegro, Eddy & Pete M, or our van in the meet. Back after a lovely tea we’ve pitched up for the night, safe in the knowledge that today didn’t go quite as expected, it went much better!

  10. As I posted a while back the venue I can arrange is Cheriton Fitzpaine Football Club (close to EX17 4HB) just off the A3072 from Tiverton to Crediton, about 10 miles out of Exeter. Not quite as remote as Saabnut's but out in the sticks. It is far enough away from houses that we shouldn't be causing aggravation. June seems to be clear of both bank and school holidays so the motorways heading south should be as manageable as they ever are. So, any chance of getting a concensus on which weekend it should be? Can someone more IT adept than me put up a poll for this? The FA cup is on 18th May so the local football season should be finished and if the date is decided well in advance we can get it blocked off so we don't get allocated a home game that day if the season over runs. It seems probable that the village maidens won't be having their 50th birthdays party at the Football Club, and the birthday of the the maiden who is a Club Committee member is in August. Going on attendance at SFs 17 and 18 there should be enough room for hard standing parking with overflow onto the 5-a-side area where tents can be. The Club house has toilets, showers, bar (£2.80/pint at the moment, but mostly lager as that is what footballers swill down their necks) and kitchen (this subject to the kitchen ladies being happy about the use of "their" domain). Suggested £5 a night per car. Local attractions: the farm shop down the road for the all day breakfast; Sandford Orchards for cider; Moretonhampstead Motor Museum for adventuring down single track roads to get there, I can guarantee there will be no midges, and I'm reasonably confident that June is horse fly free.
  11. EDIT: Date for visit 3rd Nov, Starlight Spectacular https://www.tramway.co.uk/whatson/starlight-spectacular-2/ Seeing how popular the Trams thread is http://autoshite.com/topic/33005-trams/ lets see if we can get a group together for a visit to Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire https://www.tramway.co.uk/ It's normally £17 to get in, but if we can manage a group of 10 it comes down to £10.50 & it appears pre-booked car clubs get in free with pre-1986 cars, depends if they class chod as classic I guess but we can ask. It closes for the year on 4th Nov so we need to do it in the six weeks or so, I've no idea on dates except I can't do 5th-7th Oct. Who's in? 1. Hooli - YES 2. binhoker668 (maybe) 3. MarvinsMom (maybe) 4. bub2006 (pre 1986, I can't wait to hear their reaction to Roland) - YES 5. Ghosty - YES 6. catsinthewelder (tempted) 7. Squire_Dawson (probably) 8. dean36014 - YES 9. AlabamaShrimp 10. Wack - YES 11. petermcpete (tempted) 12. petermcpete's friend (tempted) 13. 3VOM (probably) Gawd that green is awful!
  12. Thought we'd try and get a Sunday afternoon meet in before the clocks go back. Usual Cafe on the A249 northbound. I think it has changed it's name again when I went past this week, so no website link for now (was Mickey's Rock Café and then Bangers Diner). Note your interest here.
  13. Every first Sunday of the month Haynes Motor Museum has a breakfast meet from 9am to 12am. If you haven't been to Haynes before it's a brilliant museum in Sparkford near Yeovil by the A303. Ideal stop off point on the way to Devon and Cornwall. The breakfast meet has been going for a while now and it's getting very popular. Basically a morning where car enthusiasts can rock up in whatever they have and go for a browse on other people's cars. Very much a extreme mix of cars. From fake Ferraris to real Ferraris, Fiesta ST to Sierra Cosworths and from Hyundai Traget to badly modified Civics. Everything goes. I've been meaning to go for a long while and decided I would have a jaunt up in the Jag before I sold it to see a couple of mates there. As usual, the trip in the Jag was largely uneventful. Only issue I had was being low on fuel. As it was Somerset, most of the petrol stations were closed on a Sunday morning. Anyway enough of the chit chat, time for some photos. Literally hundreds of different cars and I couldn't photograph them all. So I picked out some of the more unusual or special ones. This is a typical sight. Modern Alfa 4C next to a CX turbo The 4C was also near this scruffy Merc. Not sure why I took a picture of it but never mind. Probably because there was many pampered cars on this row and then there was this... Another typical sight. Chevy Suburban next to an E type. Which is next to a DMC and yet another modern Mustang. Yes this is a real DB5. Lovely Alfa Loads of American stuff - especially Mustangs. Here is a generic Mustang for an idea Possibly not one for this forum, but these are phenomenal machines. Front brakes were insanely big. As you would expect there is a fair amount of British stuff. Especially P6s. This MG ado16 was absolutely minty. I wish my sills were this good. Checkout this Puma without rusty arches! These definitely look better in person. I have no idea why these are so expensive. I took a picture of this not because I liked it but because someone obviously spent a lot of time on this.
  14. Apologies in advance for: Spelling: I have been out in town drinking this evening. Punctuation and grammar: I have been out in town drinking this evening. Exact dates and times: I have been out in town drinking this evening. It is long overdue so I have made preliminary enquiries and it seems that the Midlands Massiv are able to host Scotoshite (Particularly the SVM) in an Association of Associated MASSIVs (International Edition) at the usual haunt of the Cannock Motor Auctions in Cannock on Saturday October 27th 2018. The usual format will ensue. The SVM, well me at at least, will arrive in Cannock on Friday 26th Ocober and do an overnight stay at the usual Premier Inn (Cannock South) with dinner and aperitifs that evening. On the Saturday morning we shall all head to the Trucker's Rest cafe on the A5 for a colossal breakfast before heading to the Cannock Motor Auctions for many sillinesses and possibly an afternoon activity. My idea of going to Blists Hill last time was an unmitigated failure so any other ideas for an afternoon activity would be greatly received. Friday: Dinner probably about 7ish Saturday: Breakfast at Trucker's Rest Cafe, A5. 0900ish. Round to the auctions for 1030ish Saturday Afternoon Activity: <Suggestions> So who's in? 1. davidfowler2000
  15. I was supposed to be welding and working on the 1100 today but felt a bit under the weather with the ol' dog barking again. Instead decided to drive down to my parents and see the local classic car show. Quite a varied selection, with usual loads of Mustangs, e-types and MGBs. Disappointingly I didn't see a single ado16. Turned up at around 2 hours before the show finished, so a few spaces where cars had been. Here are some of my highlights:
  16. http://didsburycarshow.org.uk/ Sun 8th July Anyone interested in coming along? I might seeing as it's a local show and the 400 seems to be a generally well received car. They supposedly have a theme of 'cars with character' which I'm sure we can bend the context of to our liking. It goes on 11-5 to the public, but you have to register your attendance and exhibitors are requested to be there from 10:30am-4pm. Anyone interested in a forum presence?
  17. Anybody going to be popping to this one Sunday? Me and Girlfriend_70s shall be attending, most likely in my freshly polished turd: It's organised by the Albion foundation so I imagine there will be plenty of neat old lorries to ogle at.
  18. Evening Northern shitterists. There will be a meeting of likeminded car folk in North Shields on Saturday the 11th of August. Down by the river at the fish quay, there will be fish and chips available till about 20:00. Its a nice big car park and theres the Staithes pub across the way for folks who are that way inclined. Hub-nutter Dollywobbler should be in attendance so here is your chance to buy a decal and offer him a chip. Would be nice to see a few of your cars and faces so if youve nothing much else on, pop down for handshakes and natterings. Obviously, absolutely everyone is welcome, no matter what youre driving.
  19. Fancy doing a track day? Never quite got round to it? Don't want to put the extra miles on your Allegro? Look no further. Saturday 15th September there is a javelin trackday at Blyton Park. - http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackdays/September/Blyton-Park-15th-September-2018 It's an all day event with an open pit - meaning you can do as many laps as you want. Track tution is available on the day for £20 for 20 minutes which is well worth it. Last time I booked a house for the weekend which was £not a lot. I was going to suggest a shiters HQ for the weekend so that we can arrive Friday evening. Then wander over for trackday at a sensible time. On top of this - I am suggesting that sat night after the trackage we have a slap up meal at a wetherspoons or curry or whatever. Those staying at shiters HQ can even have a shandy. I will be taking the little Mazda and can have extra drivers if anyone fancies it. I think the total cost with fuel for the day etc was about £100 if you are sharing the car. List below to say whether you are coming and whether you want to stay at Shiter HQ 1) Mooglepuss - driving and staying
  20. It's the second of my friend Mervyn's two annual car shows in his home village on Tuesday. Always a good mix of stuff and a pleasant evening. Note that some other sources give the start time as 5pm but this poster came directly from Mervyn so it should be right.
  21. I may be going to this, work permitting. http://www.lva-auto.fr/agenda.detail.php?id=143990 I've not been before but apparently it's a bigun. If I go I'm happy to look out for unobtainium frogchod bits.
  22. Finding myself at a loose end after my mum forbade me to drive to Newmarket because too hot, I shot over to Markeaton Park in Derby for an hour to gawp at some vehicles. Usual selection of old choddage but these were the ones which stood out for me. Lovely looking XR3i cab Was also for sale, 12 month ticket. Probably OMGFORDSCENETAX price but no one around Don't panic VOXL lickers...bit of a barried Viva Usual array of Minis but this 1275GT caught my eye As did this honey
  23. We haven't done this for a while. The call of bacon, rammle and DETHBURGAS is strong. 21st? 28th? Another date entirely? Shout up.
  24. Had a run up to Luton on Saturday for a mate's 60th. A rocking night was had by all, we stayed up overnight and called in at Hedsor, near Bourne End, Bucks on the way home where there was a car show going on. Cracking weather, cracking weekend and 250 miles with the Cowley which coped admirably with the heat on the short stretches of M1, M25, M40 and M3 in between pleasant country meandering. I would have taken lots more pictures at Hedsor but it was too hot to wait around for mongs who were playing human statue near anything interesting or arseing about having their own photo taken gurning in front of various vehicles. Honestly. Either my already truncated tether is rapidly running out or people are simply becoming more gormlessly ego-centric in their endeavours to force their grim countenance onto all and sundry. Right, rant over....What did I bother my arse manage to point my camera at? Right, there was this....Rather nice Mk3 non-full capacity engined Capri. And another in Mk1 flavour. Rong bonnet on a four pot of this age, I think. Colour isn't original either. No matter, I just photographed this to share on here as it is still rather Noice. XLR should come with black rear panel and (flat) bonnet but these were delete options. These don't pull a classic car tag in my mental library, but they are certainly seldom seen nowadays. Always quite liked the look of them, though.... Bite-size Yank...... Baur loveliness.... Caught this one as it escaped. I tried a couple of times to get it when it was parked up but it was continually accompanied by Wankers spouting Wank about Wankels. This was bloody lovely and filed under "Shite Which I Should Have Bought When They Were a Tenner" or something.... Do Not Paint, American style....Actually I found it a bit contrived with its conspicuously over-done Klear Kote so maybe I Would Paint. This lovely Wolseley followed us for a bit as we left. I wanted it to have had a Winkworth bell on it so I could have driven comically through the village in the Cowley like some Ealing film... This needed a few Embassy packets and a Daily Mirror folded up on the dashtop. Strike that, nobody needs a Daily Mirror. This looked interesting and sounded nice coming in... Wonder what was under the bonnet? Oh. OK. One of those. Charlie Hungerford turned up in his Shadow.... Looks good enough to eat, that, Charlie. What's it like inside? Mmmmm, Werthers.... Do Not Paint. UK version. Really rather liked this, dents and all. Smelled nice inside, too. Can't show you the smell, but you can have a look... And if I ever have an MGA, its going to look like this... Speaking of MG, MGBs seemed conspicuous by their absence. Or maybe I have just stopped seeing them. There was, however, more than one but less than three MGCs. Including this appropriately registered roadster... Sharing the MGC honours as well as the inexplicable fetish for Minilites was this GT.... It had this badge..... My ageing memory databank tells me that this was some kind of run-out special on the part of University Motors to shift what had quickly become a bit of a floor-sitter in the BMC sports car range. The non-standard paint finish - and possibly those Minilites - was probably part of the package which no doubt included things like a wooden gear knob, map light and a matching umbrella or some such tosh. Lastly, the car that I would most like to have pottered across to Henley in and partaken of a cream tea. If only because it would have matched the colour scheme..... The weekend's jaunt was completed with a fine sighting of the Battle of Britain Flight passing over the Flywheel event at Bicester which we passed on the way up and the magnificent spottage (un-camera ready unfortunately) of an enthusiastically-driven BMW 3.0CS just outside Marlow on the way home.
  25. Yes, this was weeks ago. I couldn't be arsed uploading the pictures until now... I took the Acclaim as late entries don't get in and I'd not pre-booked so not worth the hassle of taking the Dolomite. First spot was this as the Scottish Vintage Vehicle Trust were running some proper busses around town: Is it even a car show if there isn't a row of Stags? 1980s BL/AR crap was out in strength! 1970s BL trash as also about in good numbers! Some Frenchness: Girlfriend couldn't believe the GS was the same age as my antiquated Doloshite! Older BMC stuff was also kicking about: Unexpected Japanese stuff! Fords: The show is organised by the local Rootes Group club so there was much Rootage in attendance! Random other stuff: Viva which broke down as soon as it hit the motorway: Obvs the best cars hide in the car park... All in all a really good show with a large selection of vehicles and less rows of Mk2 Escorts and MGBs than I'm used to! I've discovered my girlfriend likes VW Beetles, Morris Travellers and Hillman Super Minxes, which is a good start.
