  1. If you change wheel/tyre size, do you need to use different pressures?

And a related question, are lower profile tyres more likely to lose air over rough roads because they have more give in the sidewalls to absorb the bumps?

  2. Believe it or not, this superb piece of engineering is under the bonnet of a Citroen C8. Sweeeeeeet.

Is the engineering under that shiny plastic thing? What exactly is the point in that? Surely people who would be offended by the sight of an actual engine wouldn't open the bonnet? And even if they did, they'd only be able to see 6" of it between the bulkhead and the slam panel?

    I'd love a V6 C8 if I was more Catholic.

  3. Apparently there really was as accident, but the guy only got the drivers name, nothing else, no address, no reg,, nothing. the insurers have done a search of the dvla records and have found a person with the same name, i.e my mother in law. They don't have the other drivers details to speak to then direct, although i'm sure they are entitled to them by law, seeing as there's been an "accident"

The DVLA wouldn't do such a vague search, it's like getting blood out of a stone even when you're asking something very specific.

If someone with the same name as your mother-in-law was in an accident, it's unlikely they live near her. If by an amazing coincidence they do, it's almost impossible to believe they drive the same make, model and colour of car.

If they still insist on paying this person, kick up a stink with the insurers-official complaint, followed by a complaint to the ombudsman.

  4. £472 to buy nearly four years ago, so if I were to bridge it now I'd have lost less than £100 a year.

It's done nearly 40,000 miles with little more than servicing. It's needed the odd balljoint etc, but nothing major.

    45mpg ish.

    That's cheap.

  5. I lost interest when PG's narration drowned out the 'expert' taking about the combustion chamber, with some dumbed-down drivel. I had hoped that a program about something as specific as a series land rover might assume the viewer had at least a passing interest in cars and some prior knowledge of how they work. Obviously I expected too much.

Still, better than Celebrity Love Eggs.

  6. I don't use the phrase 'rusty death trap' lightly but the one I had (J-reg, 2.0SLX), split it's time between trying to kill me with its appalling handling, and preparing for the international Most Rusty Arches award.

I sold it to a man who came down from Birmingham with his entire family, in the dark, to collect it, and I don't think I lost a penny on it.

  7. Legal Protection when you renew your car insurance- two questions.

1: What does it actually do? I can only ever get a very wooly explanation from the companies.

    2: Do you need it?

    1. Your insurance only usually covers you for the damage to your car. If you want to claim anything else you have to do that yourself, unless you have legal cover.

    2. Not really. If you just want your excess back, you can deal with that far more competently than the legal expenses people will. If you want COMPENSAYSHUN, go to a no-win no-fee solicitor.

  8. I'd love an ADO16.

    This one...

..has failed a recent MOT - but the fail sheet is in the listing and shows no rust issues (only balljoints, tyres, brakes, exhaust and such like).

I'd be happier to buy this (looks like seller might let it go for a grand or so?) than something twice the price with an MOT but obvious rot issues.

Are those mats a structural part of the floor?
