After the tragic death of my Volvo 850 last year I needed a reliable run about to do me a good turn for a few months as I was too unwell to fuck around with cars so I went and bought a 2006 mazda 3 1.6 Petrol, it was rough and ready but it’s been reliable, however over the course of the last 9 months of running it into the ground it’s picked up a couple of wounds, as expected the front wings are rusty around the wheelarches, it’s also in need of a new shock absorber on the rear, engine management light has been on since the day after I bought it, error code for a knock sensor but there’s no knock on the engine so I’ve just ignored it, the car is absolutely filthy but it has mot on it til the end of may/beginning of June, anyone wanna take it off my hands for £150 or should I just bridge it? Should add car is located in Durham and will be going this week one way or another

In my opinion the advent of over complicated electronics and ECU'S that control almost everything in the car has fucked the bottom end of the market! You no longer guarantee yourself a decent car by buying on condition because now the car can be pristine with one owner from new and full service history and it can still throw it's ECU out of the pram, this has very recently happened to me with a cmax, had it 2 weeks, had to get a replacement ECU and clocks fitted and then sold it because I no longer trusted it, got myself a mazda 3 now because it's Japanese reliability but even that's a gamble!

The splutter has gone and it's a lot smoother at the top end! So up to now, touching wood as I type this, the problem seems like it's been solved!

Well, cmax bought today, all going well until this evening when the engine management light came on, attached to obd reader and I'm getting error code p0304 which translates as a misfire on cylinder number four, looks like my dream of a problem free motoring for a few months is off to a good start! Oh how I love modern shite!

Been a sadly eventful week in 850 land, my beloved old volvo has gone to the bridge after much deliberations, I have considered selling it, keeping it, fixing it or scrapping it and sometimes you just have to admit defeat and a broken crankshaft was the last straw, I'm not well myself and just don't have the energy left at the moment to nurse a car to health, so moving on im now in need of trouble free wheels and the criteria for me is must be petrol and must be fairly spacious, in the running for me at the moment is a 2001 ford mondeo 1.8 LX estate or a 2005 ford cmax 1.6 zetec but what's your opinion? Limited budget of £600 as not earning at the minute due to the aforementioned ill health

Well as is usually the way with me and cars, it has behaved itself for the whole two years I have owned it, however once I decide to part ways she decides to spit a spring out from under the clutch pedal, a spring which isn't available in the uk and can only be ordered from Sweden! So for the time being at least, she's staying with me, on a side note, 11 days for a spring to get from Sweden to Durham!

I'm finally at the point where I'm bored of the old girl so I think now when it's got almost a full MOT is the time to let it go! It's been a good relationship and I'm sad to wave her off but the saloon boot is just too impractical (had to borrow a friends clio to move a fridge freezer yesterday and that shouldn't happen when you own a big old volvo) a little bit about her, she's a 1996 Nreg volvo 850 2.5tdi manual transmission saloon, she's Swedish racing green with beige half leather interior, pretty clean for her age and has a lot of extras for a 22 year old car, here is a list of what works
4 electric windows
Electric/heated mirrors
Heated seats
Cruise control
Cd player/tape deck/radio

The sunroofs got stuck open so once I got it closed I unplugged it incase it happened again
The milage reading has been on 209,000 since I bought it 2 years ago and I've honestly done about 50,000 miles in it since then.
It starts first time as long as you let the glow plugs heat up first, the car has never ever let me down.
In the time I've owned the car I have spent quite a bit of money keeping it right, last year I serviced it, so new oil and filters, it also had new brake discs and pads all around last year as well as having the springs and shock absorbers replaced (the previous owner had the car lowered I wanted it standard).
It's got a few scratches on the bottled and a bit of rust bubbling around one wheel arch but the car is very solid and always gets praised by the MOT tester.
I will consider a swap into something else Swedish preferably or interesting but it would need to have an MOT and be usable, not sure how much I want for the car so come at me with offers if you is interested

Had no power steering, was alright when moving but trying to park it was a bit of a fucker, ran it into the ground for 6 months and then advertised it on facefuck for £200, bloke turns up pissed, had obviously not read the advert and offers £350 for it as long as I drive him home in it! Have never shook someone's hand as quickly in my life!
