  1. And it’s gone, it was a good car I’ve just neglected it quite badly which is a shame cos it was genuinely nice to drive, felt sportier than what it was
  2. After the tragic death of my Volvo 850 last year I needed a reliable run about to do me a good turn for a few months as I was too unwell to fuck around with cars so I went and bought a 2006 mazda 3 1.6 Petrol, it was rough and ready but it’s been reliable, however over the course of the last 9 months of running it into the ground it’s picked up a couple of wounds, as expected the front wings are rusty around the wheelarches, it’s also in need of a new shock absorber on the rear, engine management light has been on since the day after I bought it, error code for a knock sensor but there’s no knock on the engine so I’ve just ignored it, the car is absolutely filthy but it has mot on it til the end of may/beginning of June, anyone wanna take it off my hands for £150 or should I just bridge it? Should add car is located in Durham and will be going this week one way or another
  3. Do you reckon this would make the trip back to Durham? Got a friend who is up for it if he can drive it back safely!
  4. Well I don’t have money but if you feel like giving it me I can allow you to take the other half in exchange!
  5. Today, 02:40 PM I thought you had a buyer lined up for yours aaaages ago I did and then life got in the way for a little while and then before the I could arrange to get it with the other guy it went well tits up on me, didn’t feel right selling him a car that may not get him back home so I did the most stupid thing I have ever done in my life and scrapped it, was gutted doing it but illness and money mean I can’t do much fixing right now!
  6. bucket of water and it’s good as new that! Thing of beauty in estate form, even better in saloon flavour, I really need to find someone who wants to swap one of these for a Mazda 3!
  7. I have been 850less for a couple of months now after a smoking, squealing crank shaft sent mine over the bridge and I am having withdrawals from the big old beast, I need another diesel 850 in my life so so badly!
  8. In my opinion the advent of over complicated electronics and ECU'S that control almost everything in the car has fucked the bottom end of the market! You no longer guarantee yourself a decent car by buying on condition because now the car can be pristine with one owner from new and full service history and it can still throw it's ECU out of the pram, this has very recently happened to me with a cmax, had it 2 weeks, had to get a replacement ECU and clocks fitted and then sold it because I no longer trusted it, got myself a mazda 3 now because it's Japanese reliability but even that's a gamble!
  9. So final update on the cmax situation, after servicing the car it was running really well and I started to relax about driving it and then three days later I was driving down the road and boom the dash lit up like blackpool illuminations! EML light, airbag light, handbrake light, ABS light all on together along with a warning for an engine malfunction, took it to an auto electrician who diagnosed an ECU fault, champion I thought, how much to fix? Auto electrician quoted £80 an hour with a minimum of three hours work, which I declined, took it to a mechanic who quoted £70 for the work to replace the ECU and clocks, rang ford who quoted £1560 for a replacement ECU so I paid a visit to the bay of E where I found a set of clocks and ECU for £80 so job ended up being done for £150 all in however by that point I was now sick of the car so after fixing it I have sold it for £570 meaning overall in two weeks I have lost £300 on a car that I have driven 4 times and now I have no car at all! Sometimes you can fail so hard that you end up being a winner!

  11. I had an 02 plated mondeo 1.8 zetec previously and I do think comparatively that was a nicer car to drive as well as being more comfortable but it's by the by now I've got a cmax
  12. I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess on what was actually wrong, all I know is its working now, my money was on coil pack or plugs but as is normally the case with me and cars, it is a mystery
  13. I will take note of that for future reference, I'm of the opinion that the electrics in cars of that era are over engineered and the eml is a huge pain in the arse, that is where older cars beat newer cars in my opinion, that and older cars have more character, are more interesting and more fun to own and drive
  14. So, new spark plugs knocked the EML off, but the car kept spluttering, new coil pack and HT leads made no difference, a redx and an Italian tune up showed the car was rough at top end as well as at idle so grasping at straws took it to the garage where the mechanic suggested a service, which it has now had and now? The splutter has gone and it's a lot smoother at the top end! So up to now, touching wood as I type this, the problem seems like it's been solved!
