Ebay at it again

Oh bugger! I find the 'new' system absolute pants, and ALWAYS use the old one. Also I don't know anybody who can work out how to opt out of the new search that doesn't. As soon as you mention the word transit, you come up with 3000 results for the new plastic thing, how is this anything to do with the Mk2?

That new search is useless. Utterly useless. There'll be no point browsing ebay for tat if that's all they'll be offering in the future.

Seems to be the same with every change that eBay implement - makes it less of an online auction for stuff you don't need any more, and more like a flea market for traders and mass sellers. The motors section especially is getting as bad as autotrader. Can you imagine being treated like that at a car dealer?"Hello, I'd like to look at that 1992 Escort over there, for £395""Really? You want to talk about finance on a new Focus?""Erm, no. That secondhand Escort. Over there. *points*. ""We can do a great deal on a 58 plate Focus, £350 a month. That's cheaper!""I really would just like to look at the car I've already asked about, the one I'm interested in buying""How about a brand new car?"All these 'classified ads' and 'featured ads' really just hack me off, if I've specified as near to damnit the exact car I want using your godawful search tool why show me other crap? The other sections are just as bad, hardly any private sellers and lots of traders ripping you off with their 'I think i'm clever' terms and conditions and containers full of far-eastern tat.Local classified adverts are the way to go. We ought to set up a scheme where someone from each region scans the 'Cars Under £1000' section of their local rag and posts it online.

I never use their 'new' search and find it to be totally shit so it looks like I won't be bothering with ebay so much after April. I'm going to start listing stuff for sale on ebid soon. With a bit of luck other poeple will too when they finally knacker ebay completely with their dumb search. It might be enough to make another site a viable alternative for the first time.

I'm using the new search and I don't know what the problem is??? I have no problem searching for relevant items. The new search also allows you to search both private and shop sellers items together, saving me lots of time :D Ebay is not perfect, but I have found more rare Fiat parts and made more money selling stuff I don't need than I would without it by miles. In my lifetime neither I or my family have ever sold a car through our local paper (despite many tries) and the prices they charge for one ad in one paper are hurrendous! I can list anything (other than a car) on ebay with a buy it now for 30 days for 40 pence! True you pay a final value fee, but only if the item sells.

While we're on the subjust of eBay, can anyone help me with these...?How do I get ebay to stop sending me an email every time ANYTHING happens? You have listed your item, someone has bidded on your item, you have made a bid, you have been out bid, your item sold, your item didn't sell etc.... And why does all of my feedback say that the item is 'private' and you can't view what it was? It's really annoying cos I can't see who's left feedback for which item (does that make sense?) and also looks like I'm selling porn or something. Can you change it?Cheers.

At a guess, Gary, I would say all your auctions to date have been 'private listings'. This is where bidders identities (or ratings these days) are not shown, and the feedback does not show what the listing was for. You can change this on all future listings by ensuring you untick the box for private listing when you create the listing. HTH.
