What cars would you like to own again?

I can be a bit of 'glass half emtpy' kind of guy and in the past have thouhgt my current car is crap(which it probably was) and either scrap them or sell them and get something else. Afterwards I realise how much I like it or how good it really was and wish I could get it back!

The first of my cars that falls into this category is the first car I owned that made it onto the road, a late Mk1 Polo, it was an LX, Formel E model. It was blue and was an 81 X-reg and cost me £350 on my 18th birthday. I insisted on buying it as my birthday money meant I could afford to buy and insure a car and this one was the first one I saw. I handed over the cash despite the seller not really wanting to sell and suggesting I come back at the weekend to have a proper look - also it would not tickover properly!

Anyway I loved this car - when I discovered top speed was achieved in 3rd I never really used 4th again and had great fun taking people for a drive who thought I was lying when I claimed it would top 90 in 3rd. My dad did a bodge job to make it tickover and I enjoyed driving this car at least 30 miles a day for the next 6 months - until I saw a Mini 1275GT for sale for £125 (the nineties were great for buying Minis). The Mini was great for a couple of weeks, me and mate spent the nights driving around Tamworth/North Warwickshire sometimes until it was getting light. The head gasket went about 4 times and within 2 months the wiring loom melted 3 days before the MOT expired - then I wanted the Polo back. Doubt it exists anymore.

I then got another car I wish I could have again - it was not my favourite cars but probably one of the best cars I ever had.

BMW E30 and Escort XR3i for sentimental reasons and every RWD Escort that I killed/sold/scrapped for financial reasons.

A 1972 BMW 2500 - I just could not afford to run it at the time but it was such a fantastic car

1972 Austin 3ltr - only because I never got the thing on the road and I always wanted to :(

1972 Austin 1300 - as above was so easy to have got this on road but my skills then were shite and I scrapped it :cry:

1967 Anglia Estate - really really regretted selling that, was a very rare fleet model, but ex wife etc and it was sold. Out of all the cars I owned I would have that back like a shot if I could get the chance (it is still about)

think thats it - everything else was just a means to an end

Mk2 Astra. Good cars, and so easy to work on.

I want an SD1, 'cos I had one all but bought off a neighbour years ago, until I got a scary, scary insurance quote.

I cant say I want to own anything Ive had the experience of driving, but as for cars that my family has owned, well it comes down to the Subaru my Gran owned for 17 years, which was scrapped because of terminal rust and this little beauty my Dad owned until he died, which is still incredibly local.

TRY33R & OMP557R Mk1 Ford Granada's I had in late 80's early 90's. Only 2.0 pinto's but great cars 8)

PAL671W Ford Cortina mk5 - loved it to bits - had to go due to cash shortage.

DNP---V Volkswagen Passat GLS Estate. Bought it and got a mate to drive it home for me. He liked it so much he made a stupid offer and bought it off me. Allways wanted one and have never been in the position to buy another. :cry:

Cavalier Mk2 1.8 SRi facelift saloon, D178 OTX. Loved that car for many reasons, including it being the one we bought our first born back from hospital in.

Jag XJ6 series 3 4.2 auto: C797 RKA. Can't think of a car I've owned so nice to drive.

Mk3 Cavalier SRi saloon. Can't remember reg. no. but just loved it to bits.

Vectra (yh rly) SuperTouring. Only owned it about two weeks but really liked it and shouldn't have sold it.

MK1 'Consul' Cortina pre-airflow 1200 delux. PMB 98B (possibly PMB 99B) unreliable, over-heating frustating bastard of a car but loved it all the same.

There will be loads of others but they're the ones I remembered first.

My second example was a B-reg Renault 5 (early shape). It was a 5 door 1.1 5 speed in grey - it had plastic flooring and was quite basic. It was very slow but extremely economical I think 50mpg was achieved. It really was in mint condition except for a big dent in one of the rear doors which is how I come to own it. My mate was a mechanic who worked for transport firm who also ran a garage. This 5 was in for an MOT when one of the truck backed into it. The bosses just bought the car off the customer to save any hassle and my mate had it off them and I gave him £100 and my scrap Mini 1275GT.

Only ran it for a couple of months when I was seduced by a G plate Rover 216S, also the R5 had been broken into so the door locks were smashed so I sold it for £75 to a local lad who just left outside his parent house then scrapped it.

A real shame, this would be an interesting car if it was still around now.

Mainly financial:

Manta B Coupe - in 1970s orange with vinyl roof and Rostylers

Solid 2-door Mirafiori - scrapped after a kerb tap on the sump

Tidy Fuego in black that all the Ford boys ripped the pish off - yet they drove off in sheds

Solidish Mk1 Alfasud - given away as it was unsaleable

That Dinky Transit with the Policeman, signs and cones - I smashed to bits.

That Action Man Tank - my dear Mum even today refuses to own up to who she gave it to

As an idiot yoof I had a Rover SD1 and a couple of Capris, yet I don't have any urge to own them again. I do miss the Mk3 Cav SRI I sold about 5 years ago though - I reckon I could still be driving that now, I would have saved enough money to run a small fleet of desirable shite by now.

All three MK1fiat uno's ive owned.

Uno 45s 3dr i black. 999cc. G246YLF. 2nd car i owned. Sold it after my parents divorced leaving me with no storage plus a lack of money to get it back on the road. Was nearly in tears when the guy took it.

Uno 45s 5dr black. 999cc. G***SNF. Sold it because i had too many cars at the time. Done a genuine 53,000 miles and sold it for £275! What the hell was i thinking ?

Uno 60S 5dr light met green. 1116cc. E820BBM. I shared this with my brother till a few months ago. My brother sold it to a lad in the fiat clubcento forum as he needed the cash to move into a flat. Not my choice to sell it an if i had the spare cash at he time i would have gave it my brother an kept it but least it's gone to a good home an least we saved it from geting scrapped when we brought it.

Fiat Tipo 1.4 DGT in silver. 1372cc. G536 BDP. Sold it after getting ripped off by a garaged who manged to f*ck up a cambelt change on it an charge me £170 for the result of there workmanship an blame the car for it not running. Getting angry just typing this! Was broke an was fed up of it being stuck on the drive for 6 months so sold it as spares or repair what a mistake to give up on it but can't turn the clock back sadly.

My dads Fiat Strada 70CL TEAM in white. 1299cc. E139JAY. This car is the reason i got into fiats in the first place so got a lot to thank it for always hoped it be my 1st car but sadly was traded in for a newer car before i got the chance.

Renault extra 575 1.6 diesel in white. K454YRP. Sold it at the same time as my 1st uno listed at the top for the same reasons for £25. Idiot.

Talbot samba style in silver. 954cc. C347KDA. My first car that i brought when i was 16. Paid £130 for it and once id past my test at 18 went everwhere in it for 4 years including a massive road trip to newquay for a two week holiday even let my mate learn to drive in it. An had a bunch of girls on a hen night flash us when i beeped the horn in newquay towncentre tearing up the roads. Good times. Gave it away after 5 an half years as a project car an was still taxed an mot'd. I sill can't beliveve i parted with it as was such a great car to me. I went through some bad times with it an it was always there for me never gave me any trouble or let me down it was my escape from things at the time. But i guess i felt i couldn't repay the favour i felt i owe to it so thought a better home would be best. I guessed wrong but can't change it now. Lots of good memories though an i guess i wouldn't have owned the three renaults ive had since i sold it so got a lot to thank that car for. :D

If any of these still exist I'll be amazed, but in no particular order:

AJV 589L, Bedford CF van;

F353 PHG, MG Maestro;

PBV 220T, Daimler Sovereign;

OFF 427, Cadillac Sedan de Ville;

YFR 716/G427 FKC, Chrysler Le Baron Convertible (sold the plate);

OAU 326W, Cortina Mk5;

PLV 28T, Volvo 244;

E610 YVW, Volvo 740;

969 NMB, Vauxhall Velox;

C246 MFV, FSO Polonez.

I'm currently repeating A40 and Granada after long gaps (32/25 years), and in the past I've repeated several others, usually with something slightly different to the one I had first (whatever it was).

I doubt I could come up with any real reasons for these choices, beyond the fact that each represents a fond memory for me in some way. Which is probably good enough.

Can I add VVW8W the Ford 2.8 Capri press demo. I had fuck all idea of the significance it had at the time.

EDIT: I never owned the thing cos my mate was desperate for a cheap Capri and handed me a profit on the £50 deposit I left on it.

My old C plate Capri 2.0 Laser in metallic blue. She was sold after some scrotes with no brains attempted to steal her and failed miserably but destroyed the side window, steering column, ignition barrel and switchgear. I was devastated as my stepdad had lovingly restored her only 6mths previous. Lost all love for her and sold her on ebay 10yrs ago for £67 before prices went silly. Oh, would love to get me mk1 Escort mexico back to SLE**L :D

P661TCD Scorpio Estate. Company car that reached max mileage and was offered a chance to buy it from the company - turned it down. Regretted ever since. Would still have it today.

I once owned a Tempra 1.4 in boggo shite spec...wouldn't say no to another Tempra, say late 1990s 2.0 SLX model or the 1.9 TDS model that was highly praised at the time. 8)

I'd like to own my old Audi Coupe again. Why? I loved that old car and really enjoyed working on it and driving it, but mainly because my wife was convinced it was haunted after she span it for no apparent reason at 10mph on a roundabout in central Birmingham...

D304 JLJ Capri 2.8 Special - but theres no chance as I bent the thing banana shape. :oops::evil::oops:

CNR 566Y Capri 2.0S - it was a rotter, but if it was here in the same nick now I'd make £323647823462.7686 selling it on ebay to the OSF lot.

G321 RSL ( or was it ESL..? ) Rover 216 - apart from the rot and water ingress it wasn't such a bad car.

B543 GSC - 998 Mini City E - see Capri 2.0...

HNF403V(i think) a handpainted (cornflower blue) renault 12 TL, i have got a thing for these in a big way,i started taking lessons in this it was my dads, and we used to go on asda longsights car park in the early 90's in it.he then told me it was mine when i passed my test, then someone offered him £350 for it and he took it :( ,it was a lot of money for one then,when i was a kid, it was all we ever owned, every weekend was spent stripping 12s at the local scrappy,,howard on redgate lane scrappys in gorton, he used to not let anyone have any bits off them till me and my dad had arrived.so cool. ive hankered for one ever since, but when one does turn up, im in no postition to buy it(either skint or too many projects).

A463 YWJ 83' mini sprite, with a metro vanden plas 1300 and loads of other trick bits, i bought it as a 998 at the beginning of 95 after my dad died, as his motorbility clio had to go back, i then put it in at the 1275 centre at brinksway for graham to rebuild the scuttles, and then did the trransplant. awesome car, sold it to someone who wanted the engine, after i met my missus and the landlady in the flat we were renting told me the neighbours had complained about it being in the back. (they didnt, and sher was a bitch- :x )

C499 EBA 85 nova sr in jamaica yellow,with white doors.1st car my wife has ever been behind the wheel in.

there are loads of others id like back,like the capri green polo gt hatch or the golf 1600cl, or the golf tdi mk3 estate,but i would really love a renner 12.and if it was an estate id probably wee. :D
