There was a point in the late '90s where Sapphire Cosworths, particularly 4x4s, were pretty cheap and with the typical chequered background they had, got sold pretty rapidly by each owner as bits fell off, broke, or got nicked - so I suspect a fair few Ford enthusiast might have had their hands on a "Cossie" if they're older, but not new, not long, and not a good one. Car dealer mate Ian got more excited when a Sapphire 2000E got traded in than any offers of knackered Cosworths.

I've never driven one or been particularly tempted, and I find this Sierra more interesting than say, an RS500.

Now, I did have - for a short time - an XR4x4 TT280 to play with. That was fun.

I had exactly this in the year 2000, a 2wd moonstone blue sapphire Cossie. Gave a mag featured fiesta turbo and £1500 for it from memory. It had hideous tinted windows, Mondeo ghia alloys and someone had stuck 2000e bits of wood in it. It looked shit if I'm honest but a good weekend on it and some Oz Polaris rims iirc it looked the bollox. I can still remember ragging it up the road fiddling with the bleed valve trying to find where all the boost went. Pretty easy as the guy is bought it from had tried to run it at 2bar or whatever and the overboost sensor luckily held it back. Lowered it to around 17psi and it was perfect.

They're great fun to drive but in 2wd form the arse will come round so easily it's unreal..... I found this out the day I bought it and luckily didn't hurt myself or anyone else. Well it was my first rwd car after all, a slightly modded Sierra cosworth which looking back now was a mental idea.

It never actually broke down on me now had any rust but it was a thirsty devil and they naturally used a lot of oil. I oddly never had any theft issue either despite it being kept outside but I did always block it in with a XR2🤣🤣🤣, ah the days of throwaway fords 😭😭😭😭.

The smell of the leather though still brings back great memories... Very popular with the ladies back then as well  🤭🤭🤭, big back seat.

The Subaru Impreza I had after it did near enough everything better but for nostalgia and looks you couldn't beat them.

Really quick top end as well, once out on the motorway it was a totally different animal.

I've still got a 4x4 model that I'm going to finish out in Spain when we move. It's a solid shell for once but it's stood a very long time. I've got probably a container full of bits for one as well. I like to open the door now and then and smell that leather......mmmmmmm.

I saw one at a show just outside Norwich in July.  It was an L though rather than a bASe.

Look at that body-coloured grille and those full wheeltrims. Decadence.

Great to see the bASe has found a good home and is staying in the AS fold, and it's ended up back where it started life in Norfolk after so many adventures all around the country. It must make an interesting contrast with the blue one: a late-model high-spec estate and a very early base hatchback are pretty much the extreme ends of the everyday Sierra spectrum.

Jackie Stewart wore a disguise, he had a Ford Motorsport jacket on, a tartan scarf and one of those joke glasses/nose/tash

That's not a disguise that's his actual face.

I’d love to see a V888 completed on this one. IIRC I did some investigating on the batch/block of GVG 5**Y and found that it was a mixture of Ford/Vauxhall/Rover. Might well have been a fleet car or sold at a multi-faceted dealership in Norfolk.

I do however know dates of keeper changes. 1st keeper from new until 15.10.1984. 2nd keeper until 09.03.2004 and then the chap that @BorniteIdentity bought it from.

Are V888s any use anymore? When I tried to do one on my Capri it came back with "sorry, GDPR".

Interesting re the keeper changes. The previous owner only had it 2 years longer than @BorniteIdentity did!

I've been busy tapping up contacts for parts.

Contact has been made with @Crusty Sillsto collect the N/S front door.

Located a exhaust back box and collected the last req door plus 3 of the 4 outer door seals and uber rare windscreen wiper valance corner trim.

New door seals ordered.

Service at the weekend and clean out

Poverty spec door trims are hens teeth to find may run with some others.

All the parts I replace will be kept and repaired if i can.

Ok mine doesn't have that. I think it came from a MK1 but a very late one. That might explain it.  Thanks

Would still be interested in the seal.

Beggers can't be choosers

Thanks

Going back donkeys years you used to be able to buy a 1/3 door skin that went neatly behind the trim/swage line. Might be the answer @Peter C?

Step it in then use 3M panel adhesive for a nice water tight joint, skim of filler and Bob a job.

My Sierra’s door bottoms are not too bad, it’s the areas beneath the windows that feature filler over corrosion. A set of good doors would be nice.

That is a twat to repair tbh. If you can’t find the doors probably grind it back then try to effect a weld in repair.

These bits fit a Mk1 Sierra, mine is an early Mk2.

I imagine that @sierraman is referring to the OP of the threads request for door cards.

@ianb Sierra another one here saying great to see you and the car sticking around and it couldn't be in better hands!

What do the door trims look like are they repairable? The base ones look like standard ones covered in vinyl? Might be possible to convert some L or GL ones?

Is the core backing still intact? A trimmer might be able to restore them?

It's damaged in places and it does catch when you open the door or Jams up when attempting to open door.

I mentioned a few comments back that I would keep them to repair them if I can or get someone to sort them.

Sorting out the rot is the prime objective currently.

She goes to the paintshop in January.

I might be in the minority here, but i would love to see it as standard as possible but nice and shiny

It will.

I'm not doing anything other than bringing the bodywork up to scratch and a bit more presentable inside.

Still no radio etc....

Can you imagine if the bodyshop said "oh whilst we had the spray gun in our hand with thought we would make it look more modern and painted that front grill" they would get lynched

@ianb Sierra

Any chance you could ask your contacts whether they have a set of four good doors for my Sapphire please?
