I have this picture of Leroy, the owner in 2011 in London, he owned it for many years.

Imagine him seeing it again once restored!

As others have said, I think this car has gone to the best home it could!

The whole saga has been amazing so far! It's been saved, used, preserved and now is about to enter the first proper drop of 'restoration' which it probably needs to keep surviving 👌

I'd love to see it parked there after all the work being done as an 'after' shot one day! I'll chip in for the ulez fee...

Should be exempt now surely?  But if I put it in the TFL check, it isn't.  Does that mean it isn't registered as historic?

Kahn Tax is now free....I've already said I'm driving in, giving the cameras the bird!

It says Historic Vehicle on all the DVLA forms.

I can’t wait to see how this rolls out of there with its new paint!

That front door is actually quite battered, I didn’t think it was as bad as that.

The outer sills were a Pandoras box....the more I went across, the more it broke away.

The drivers door step has some pudding in it, when I cut out the outer sill under there to patch it (10 years ago now!!) I looked up and could see filler coming through the rust holes in the top.
Good old Leroy and his Isopon!
He was determined to keep the car going.

Update on the base.

As most of the car is away, my attention turned to the interior.

On the most, I can get bits that can keep the feel of the car, but the stumbling block is the door cards.

They are not available as spares that I've seen yet.

I've been quoted anywhere from £1,000 to £2,000 to make new, correct door cards which I'm not prepared to splash out at this current point or at any other time really!

So, I had a go at making them presentable a little more.

The o/s door card is the worst as it was water damaged and I've strengthened it with hard foam braces on the reverse.

I also used vinyl cloth I had kicking around from my mk2 and cut it to cover the worn out parts and splice in best I can.

A base of vinyl spray and a halfords gray spray to match and I'm quite pleased with the two that I've done.

I can't get rid of the sagging with out damaging further so have just rolled with them currently.

Hopefully, I'll find some door cards, somewhere in the future.

That’s pretty damn good.👍

I had the same trouble with my Capri. Nothing is available new for interior trim, especially for the older basic models. The only options are keep trying to hunt down good used parts - in the correct colour and style, which is nigh on impossible after this long or repair what you have.
My originals were repaired by a trimmer who did a very good job of it by carefully stretching and gluing the old vinyl back to shape and repairing the backing cards. Cuts and rips had to have a section of black vinyl slipped in behind the damage then the original vinyl glued down over it to hide the damage. You can still see it if you look hard but unfortunately there aren’t many other options.

Just part of it with cars like these though.

Work continues were I can on the base.

It's still in the paintshop, but hopefully will be out at the beginning of April.

Old badges, refurbished badges.....

The ford one is a replacement, the other two I've cleaned and repainted.

Are you not changing the blue ford badge to a red one ?

1982  / 3      Shouldn't it be the  pale blue  badges  ? ?

Not from what I've seen on the original base brochure.

Fantastic to hear of the progress with this. It’s all work that ensures its survival.

You should see the front grill now......🙂

I used a chrome paint pen from amazon.

Three go's to get it to a point I was happy with.

I always thought the pale blue badges had just faded, every days a school day

I'm not sure a scan of a brochure picture is the most accurate guide to colours, but both front and rear Ford badges look like a pretty dark blue to me.

I was never aware of a change from light to darker blue, and I've been looking at cars since the 60s. Happy to be proved wrong, but my guess is fading.

Have you painted it body colour? #periodmodification

Older badges in my opinion do look lighter whereas modern badges do appear darker and smaller?

Anyway, @ianb Sierra, if you want an old style badge FOC, PM me 👍
