I'm not sure a scan of a brochure picture is the most accurate guide to colours, but both front and rear Ford badges look like a pretty dark blue to me.

It's what I have to work with......

I was never aware of a change from light to darker blue, and I've been looking at cars since the 60s. Happy to be proved wrong, but my guess is fading.

They certainly can fade:

Have you painted it body colour? #periodmodification

No....its still grey.

That's the most iconic part of the car!

I always thought the pale blue badges had just faded, every days a school day

There’s definitely a difference between 1980s cars and mid 90s onwards. Halfway through Fiesta mk3 production I think. This is the earlier type:

HFM though. Literally old blue oval tax.

"I want to play a game with you"  (jigsaw style)

One of these badges is of the 1983 base

One is of my 1992 GLX.......

Some bespoke dealer stickers arrived this morning.

My aim is to get the base to Pertwee and Backs car show in Great Yarmouth on, Sunday the 26th of April.

Seems fitting that it's first show under me is at its original dealer.

I would like to think that the grille has been washed thoroughly and protected with a coating of linseed oil, or bumper gel (we called it monkey spunk back in the day) to make it look as factory fresh as possible. Repeat the process every 3 weeks to maintain and preserve it.

Might be worth asking someone who works there if there is any paper records of the bASe when it was first sold? Might be in a dusty corner of a store room or suchlike.

Wouter's bASe is probably very close to original regarding to badges, trim and such. A lighter shade of blue compared to newer Fords maybe, not a huge difference though.

Looks like a posh base, it has headrests and side trim!😆

I know of three here, two red ones (including the one above) and a white one which is now a police car rep..

I asked and they don't keep anything after 30 years.

Might have been different spec in the Netherlands but certainly no side trims on UK grey grille base cars. Head rests were a factory fitted option, though.

Brochures mention a passenger wing mirror and radio as options, but don't say anything about the side trims. I assume they were standard equipment.

No wing, side indicators on the Netherlands version either.

I guess this is a fairly well known reference point for UK base spec?

I’m 90% sure this is the DieseL (A197 DMV) based on some familiar dents, scratches and light lens cracks. 😭

I hope someone saves it but not hopeful now it's at copart

That’s a real shame. How can they claim it runs and drives in it’s current state though?
