Anyone got a 'drive' bucket list?

What I mean by this, is any cars you want to try/drive etc...

Maybe threads like this have been done before, but hey, here is one.

I was inspired by a BBC Archive video about London cabbies. Now I've driven a LOT of cars up and down the country, but there are some that have absolutely alluded me.

I'll start, in no particular order.

1. LTI FX4 and LTI TX1 cabs. Yeah, basically because of above. I've always found them utterly interesting. The thing is, I've driven private hire cabs small distances when in for repairs or needing to be moved but they are just normal cars with 'taxi' plonked on top. Never tried the real taxis:

2. Jaguar XJS. Some years ago, I nearly got given the chance to drive an XJS (delivering it to someone) but this never came to be. I'd love to try one, just to try one:

3. Jags XJ6 S1/S2/S3. So I've got a derivative of all of these in a modern coat and I love it. Thanks to @Imhotep I got to try out the S-Type but I'd love to try out the proper Jags, the ones that made Jaguar who they are today:

4. Austin Allegro. Yeh, I'm aware there is a couple on here and one may even be for sale, but if I haven't made it abundantly clear, I have no space and no money, and if I did, I'd have bought an S-Type by now. No, I love the Allegro and would dearly love to try one.

5. Reliant Robin & Supervan II. Just to try a 3 wheeler. That's all.

1977_Reliant_Robin_850_(14136529926)_(cropped).jpg.19833741de23ef783cce0f84f64890ee.jpg

6. W140 Mercedes. To be fair, I had an S124 Mercedes E280 so I'd imagine a S280 wouldn't be much different, I'd still like to try one, although I'm more erring to owning one than just trying one.

7. R129 Mercedes SL. Speaking of Mercs, an R129 SL would be nice to try. An old mate of my Dad's had one, I may have been a passenger but I've never driven one.

1994-Mercedes-SL500-Silver-Main-Hero-scaled.jpg.978817c2df57218822716bf7db505f5a.jpg

8. BMW 7er E32. When I was growing up in Brussels, I used to see quite a few of these. Never drove one though. I have driven its smaller brother, the E34 5-series, whilst the car looked great, the interior wasn't anything to talk about.

9. Rover SD1 3500/2600. Now I have driven a Rover P6 V8 courtesy of a former autoshiter, but never an SD1. I'd like to try both the 3.5 and 2.6 to see what they're like.

10. Renault Avantime V6. My mate Brad had one of these. Although I never drove it, I have been a passenger in it and he did let me drive a Espace V6 which to me was a fine machine.

11. DeLorean DMC-12. They say never meet your heros and what have you, but I'd love to drive one just for experience of driving one, I'msure they're not as great as they seem so say people of whom have driven one. I certainly wouldn't want to own one, but I would love to try one.

12. Aston Martin DB5/DB6. I doubt very much there would be a realistic prospect of this ever happening, but I cam always dream eh? I probably have more prospect of buying a mid-90s Aston Martin than ever trying one of these.

It's a Dyane and it's not quite* factory, but this could be arranged.

Here are 2 of mine:-

The HR Holden, which started my love affair with Australian cars way back in 1980.

The Mazda Roadpacer, a rotary-engined tie-up with Holden, which could achieve an earth shattering 9mpg!

Something beginning with W.  I've done the rest of the alphabet (mostly FoD and other AS meets)  finally got a U last year driving a mates Up but have a nagging feeling that driving a Westfield mower doesn't really count.  Annoyingly I used to own a Wolseley 16/60 but never got it running.

Oh, and mine are ones I might theoretically get to drive still. If I'm going for wild dreams - Vector W2, Porsche 959, blah blah.

I forgot one which may as well be as exotic. Buick Grand National/GNX. I had a '79 Regal Limited Coupe which is the base vehicle, but way, way, way different...

Someone doesn't know how to handle SM DIRAVI then - they do wallow if you oversteer and correct (two turns lock to lock) but as with CX if you put the right input in... you make very swift progress and float... DS is the same but without the DIRAVI gearing and self-centre behaviour so people find them easier!

They should have let you drive it!

I considered a Wartburg for my list but I've been a passenger in a Saab 96  Sport (2 Stroke), so a Wartburg Knight seemed like overkill 😀.

Similarly, I've ruled out a Tatra 603 because I was a front seat passenger in one for about 10 metres as the chap trying to sell it drove us (me and a friend) out of his large garage on to the front drive.   I also ruled out a Citroen DS as I owned a CX GTi Turbo 2 for about a year and have driven a GSA many miles.

So, it's got to be:

1.  NSU Ro 80

2.  Oldsmobile Toronado

3.  Lloyd Arabella                                (By Lothar Spurzem - own work by Spurzem, CC BY-SA 2.0 de, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3789656)

4. Trojan RE                                           (Lane Motor Museum)

5. Bond 875                                           (By Charles01 - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3267125)

I've been lucky in having driven lots of stuff off my bucket list, but there are some glaring omissions - never driven a Mk2 Cavalier, for example - but if we're throwing the net really out there for obscurity I really would like a shot of a Yue Loong Feeling.

Partly so I can wind wife_cms up by pretending to forget where I've left it so I can serenade her with a Paul Shane-esque rendition of "I've lost my Yue Loong Feeling"...

2025-08-10_03-12-09.jpg.a84ff5c0860e52244190b7fb895f326a.jpg

partly for the tail lights...

2025-08-10_03-08-22.jpg.a7aa77b328eb089862958c95835a64ff.jpg

but mostly for the absolutely astonishingly brilliant seats.

I was fortunate,in a previous job,to drive most of my exotic/posh stuff bucket list.(Lotus Esprit was a big let down,to tall to safely get my foot on the brake pedal🙄) but the Porshe 911 has always alluded me.The closest I got was as a passenger in a very Autoshite brown 1975 911s.And I'd love to try one of these because V12 diesel +dustbin sized turbo(s).
