Hmmm, that's tricky - I reckon I could up you with the best* example of the predecessor?
I give you:

The Rover Montego Countryman (this one is, allegedly, an EFi Auto, top of the range blah blah. I note the shite wheel trims identical to those seen on my 1.6 carbed poverty spec version)
Only thing to beat this would be a Countryman D

Lot 239 - 1994 Rover Montego Countryman

Would you like another clue perhaps?

Okay, here's your next clue: The remote control is missing.

I should have been more specific.  It's a wired remote control.

A Land Rover with a winch but someone lost the winches wired remote? Would definitely fit with being broken down.

Didn’t think Porsches were your cup of tea, but I suppose you could have a seventies Blaupunkt in anything…

Didn’t the Montego diesel have an engine supplied by Massey Ferguson? Or did it just sound like it?

is it a 7 inch gauge model railway locomotive, like what @Mrs6C has? :) (as modelled(?) by yours truly)

Wow, an Xsara Picasso I don't hate! I didn't think I'd ever say something like that!

I'll go with something more modern, so Rover 45?

Is a Rover 45 more modern than a Citroen Xsara Picasso? The Rover went into production earlier (as the Rover 400) and left production earlier too. It was also a more traditional body style.

You could argue the suspension design of the Rover is more modern. The Citroen got common rail diesel engines and the Rover never did. I think overall the Xsara Picasso is more modern than the Rover 45

Didn't the third gen Espace have a remote control for the stereo? Don't think it was wired, though.

One of you is very close to correct in this last batch of guesses.  It's not the submarine, just in case you thought it was that one.

Does it have the structural integrity of the said submarine?

If it's still got HGF then it's not really a "conveyance", more like a "monument", or indeed, an "albatross"!
