GeordieInExile Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 And I don't mean Donnatella Versace! I always thought this one ruined the look of the front of the MK1 Mégane. The grille placement in the bonnet just doesn't look right. The original looks far more distinctive and cohesive to me. bangernomics, Wibble, Muniphobia and 7 others 1 9

I don’t dislike the mk2 tbh, but yes, the mk1 looked nice but the mk2 not as nice! Mind you the US Contour was by far the best looker imho. So maybe I’m not the best judge😄 egg and KWhite 2
Carl1981 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Citroen Saxo too… I always wanted a mk1 when they were current, when I could finally afford a newer car they were onto the mk2, so I bought a 106 instead. RoverFolkUs, twosmoke300, warch and 7 others 2 8

moosemansjukebox Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Rover 25/45 I actually think they did an okay with the facelift at the front, but the rear always looked a bit strange to me RoverFolkUs, Tenmil Socket, Jim Bergerac and 5 others 8
Schaefft Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 I think the issue often is that a car design that really is intended to be daring at the time of launch sometimes needs to be dialed back as its just going a little too far (or too soon) for the general public. I'm usually the person who appreciates distinction, even if most people would not agree that the vehicle is pretty. So funnily enough for me the facelift of the first Infiniti Q45 (which I happen to own) has significantly toned down the uniqueness of what was the grille-less prefacelift: Another example, the rear fender skirts on the '91/92 Caprice that gave it a bit of a lowrider look, and the much more conventional full wheel arch cutouts on the '93-'96 (in which the wheel wasn't even properly centered within). A move to more "conventional" is not always the right one. egg, djim, captain_70s and 3 others 6
