Keep in mind the GAP tools are VIN locked for certain calibration features too so unless you add each VIN to the tool (used to be about £60 a vehicle) you’ll not be able to have the full functionality.

Yes the VIN lock thing has put me off a GAP item, I'm going to go for the one Dome suggested😀

My iCarsoft CR Pro does most things, not yet encountered a problem that it hasn’t been able to help diagnose. I did spend more and get the all makes/models version rather than manufacturer specific, it’s come in very handy.

Welcome to the world of L322 ownership.

Comfortable, easy and a world of regret when you sell 🙈

Not owned a Td6 yet, so be interesting to see your views on it.

I think that's the one I have now - @Split_Pin you're welcome to plug it in and see what it'll do. Main benefit of this is it'll be compatible with all your fleet

I think I probably still have the RSW Allcomms setup that came with my early L322 - probably ancient tech now!

I hung onto it as Mr RSW charged handsomely for a new owner of one of his cables to gain access to the software!

I haven’t used it on a Range Rover, but my iCarsoft CR Max is able to go through the suspension calibration process on my early 2005 Disco 3. @dome’s offer sounds like a good shout, if it works with the Range Rover then iCarsoft kit would be my recommendation - they seem good value for money, and are useful across most marques if you buy the higher level models, ideal for mixed stables of cars.

Don't get sidetracked by an EAS Kicker which you'll see advertised cheap.

All it does is try to reset the air suspension light, it doesn't actually tell you fault codes or let you change anything

Fitted new tailgate struts today so I don't die when loading the shopping.

Old ones were well past it.

The V5 came so I boshed on my vanity plate.20250802_162339.jpg.2d6a187dd9729a703ee9bc7290e0ee6e.jpg

New caliper as the old one was binding. Other side is new.

Its not resting on the axle stands as I nearly forgot to take a picture and was mid way lifting it back off them.

They're teeny but stop the car really well!

I was not strong enough to lift the 20 inch wheel back on so used the lorry method I was taught as a 15 year old 8 stone weakling. If I could fit a wheel onto a 38 ton artic back then, I can do it now. Two levers to lift it over the studs and your head to push it on, worked a treat, I still have the nack 😬

That caliper is insanely small considering the TDV8 thats pretty much the same weight has 4-pot Brembos!

Brembos are also insanely expensive 😅 This one was only £32 delivered.

These are held on by 7mm Allen headed sliders so I presume are standard BMW spec. The car really does stop on its nose, I've no idea how! The pads and discs are also new which probably helps.

Looking resplendent in the August sunshine.

I did fail to park it outside 'The Range' however, for a better photo.

Loaded up tonight with a double bed and mattress.

Saved me giving another £45 to our Council for a bulky collection 😀

Averaging 23.9mpg at the moment which for 170bhp hauling around a 2.5 ton brick, is alright.

Surprised it's only 170bhp. I'd thought it would be in the 200+ range. Presumably a whole heap of torque makes it possible that it can move.

0-60 in 12.7s oof

I think from memory that these only got an early iteration of the M57 as by the time the L322 was launched BMW had sold Land Rover to Ford and BMW wouldn't supply updated versions of the engine to Land Rover.

Shame, as the 230 bhp M57N2 and a 6 speed auto would've been good in one of these

The TD6 is alright on its own without extra people/cargo weighing it down (I haven't driven one with more than just myself in it). But the TDV8 is a whole different animal, it'll make a difference once you actually pull something with it. Shame BMW never gave it the higher power M57 but nothing chip tuning or a bigger turbo couldn't fix (if it wasn't for the gearbox behind it).

Posted

It's perfectly fine for the light duties I'm giving it, I have no plans to tow anything so there's no shame in it for me 🙂

The old M57 is very low on the liability side of things which suits me. V8 diesels sound like a great proposition but having eight glow plugs, eight injectors and I think 2 turbos and a whole lot less room to work on is completely unnecessary for my needs. I can go fast in the Saab!

I promised myself when I sold my BMW 4.4 one that my next one would be a 5.0 supercharged.

Go big or go home(probably on the back of a recovery truck)

Following this thread closely. I'm really starting to get the hots for an L322.

Spot on for the potholes of Glasgow and suspension parts are cheaper than a Rover 75!

That's what I love about my CRV, good quality 70 profile A/T tyres really do make the cratered roads round here bearable. I just fancy a bit more luxury and auto. I should just get a newer CRV but where's the fun in that? 😛

How do you find driving it? The first time i drove one after just driving normal sized cars I felt like I was piloting a small bungalow.

bungalow

Its taller than the first floor of my house !

I find it really easy to drive and park though, even with dicky parking sensors as all the corners are square and I can place the car. The steering is really light as well although not that direct. Its probably some archaic worm-and-peg setup 😂

..and it definitely doesn't corner.

I love the high driving position and so far I haven't encountered any SUVs or cars that are bigger. It makes me feel like a million quid driving it😅

Renault 5 thermostat fitted inside the top hose:

The hose wouldn't come off at the cylinder head, tried for 2 hours. Ended up cutting the metal band, and fitting a brand new hose with the stat inside, just outside the head.

Haven't bled it up yet but I ran it up to temperature and have left it with the bleed screw off overnight. A bumpy drive tomorrow should hopefully do the trick.

My Father in Law has an L322. I tried to get him to buy this one but he spent a lot of time welding his up, restoring the rear subframe, converted it to springs, tidying it up etc…. But the 4.4 v8 petrol shit itself the other day. In no certain terms I’ve been told I’ve got to help him sort it out. Ideally I need to drop on a replacement 4.4 …….. but apparently they’re shite. And these l322s are worthless when the engines gone bang. 😥
