It would be nice to think that at least of one of those is still rattling around the Isle of Wight.

Is that Stratos Blue? It's the same colour as my first C reg 1.5 GLX if it is.

Love this. Thanks for sharing - intrigued to see how things pan out with this unicorn!

I can't wait to hear this up and running. I would imagine the Ibiza diesel would be top of the class on the jungle juice, due to the car's low weight. Good luck with the project. Stay safe.

I still have fun bragging about my first two cars being Spanish Fiat hatchbacks with Porsche engines.

It's great reading through those old Seat ads. The GLX in the fourth picture with the very excited Jason Donovan, is the exact same as my second Ibiza, except its colour is different. Mine was Kalahari Beige, this one looks like Jade Green. The ad could definitely be from 1988/early-'89.

The Crono was the final new model to come out in the early-dash Ibiza range, as a mildly sporty pre-cursor to the SXi, as it had a unique 2-spoke steering wheel.

I also remember Ford using 'Go Your Own Way' on the 1994 launch ad for the Probe.

There's a small car dealer near Salisbury with a MK1 Ibiza in their showroom. I'll try and get photos if they let me!

As seen a couple of weeks ago at a local show, it looked well.

Good grief, man! Even at the end of 1988 when the earliest were just 3 years old, What Car? were still telling used car buyers to watch for rust in the mk1's rear arches. Both my two 1.5 GLX's rear arches were already repaired* in different dodgy ways when I owned them in the second half of the '90s.

The first car registered in Co Kilkenny in 1987 was this Ibiza 1.2. Photo is from a show in Kilkenny  in August. Photo taken by forum user The Vicar

Yeah the rear arches on mine need doing again. They just seem to love to rot I guess

It does make me wonder how many of these have survived over in the RoI. I also wonder if there’s a surviving Malaga there also

It may be this one - a shite loving friend sent me these about 2 weeks ago.  His local trusted dealer, Pinchbecks.  It's definitely NOT for sale.  Would look infinitely better without those wheel trims.  Some interesting stuff out the back, too.

Yes that's the one! So it was the Ibiza I used to see around Salisbury (albeit not a lot) then.

I'll have to take the 405 to work and have a little peek in, I think owning an older car (or new SEAT) is probably the best ice breaker to get a look in.

The number plate font is great.

Fiat diesel engine?

The local police in Gandia where I grew up used Mk1 5dr Diesels as patrol cars. They were slowly replacing the aged Talbot Horizon Diesels.

We had two as family cars, a black 5dr 1.2L Mk1 - E185PUG. Bought from AMB Porsche in Leeds. My old man loved that one. After a couple of years he replaced it with a Metallic Blue 1.2XL facelift.

The blue one was G998KWX, bought from Keith Stones in York. It was a disaster, constantly going wrong, used to overheat in traffic, many electrical issues etc. And this was after VW got involved.

Dad traded it on for a Peugeot 106 as soon as the finance was paid off.

Nice one thanks for sharing, added to the register. I do agree though, defiantly could do with its original wheel trims.
