I replaced the rear suspension bearings today.  I made this spring compressor out of  40mm, 30mm and 25mm box section and a length of 16mm screwed bar and an old tapered bearing. It worked a treat even with my shitety welding. If anyone  wants a loan of it or dimensions to make their own let us know.20250625_161819.jpg.53d80974943877060a269ad475e07284.jpg20250625_161709.jpg.6e47460369298039900b000606be2103.jpg

Ingenious! Mine will want doing and some point so might well take you up on the offer.

I don't know for certain but I'd imagine they would. @Mrs6C will probably know for sure.

Only thing is I think all C15 seats or the majority - were vinyl or vinyl fabric mix. The vinyl was not particularly long lived and chances of getting any good seats or ones that don't fall apart after a bit are an issue.

However the C15 seats at least do not use the dissolving foam infill or degrading velor which seem to plague the Visas.

I'm not sure but it may be possible to order new seats covers in France.

A much more ambitious approach would be to try to get other Citroen seats to fit - DS come to mind.

I’d be entirely happy with all vinyl tbh, not a fan of velour after experiencing said material on loads of small Triumphs. I was always the weirdo who swapped them out for vinyl seats at the earliest.

Mine has BX seats fitted on their original rails but it did necessitate drilling a new hole in the cross member for the front mounting point.

Cheers Doug, that looks sound, the only issue is that we are quite a way from each other.

Good call on the mesh in the back, don't want Dez jumping out every 25 minutes you pass an old shop that might have light bulbs in 😂

You got enough padlocks?

That van certainly has been to France many times. Do you still have the sub box in it so you can the radio at 70mph?

Posted

Sub box still in place, it gave me a nice massage listening to the Beastie Boys on the drive down. Mix Master Mike on the ones and twos, C15 on all the ones.

Completed just shy of 1300 miles in six days going to Chez Saabnut for Merdefest and Vincent Van Goch (it's a Welsh thing) didn't skip a beat. Definitely happier on the Route Nationales and D roads than the Autoroutes especially in the heat but did all I asked of it.

The creaks and squeaks from the rear suspension do seem a little louder and more regular than before the trip so that'll be the next thing to look at.

It used to cruise pretty well at 60ish when we had it and no doubt is a lot better now after Dean rebuilt it and fixed my many bodges.

When I done my rear suspension I got the parts for the first side from the local factors, £89. When I done the second side got the exact same parts from Ebay £17.

It's getting to that time of year when a C15 is needed to collect the harvest...

... and transport it and the cider press to my orchard group's Autumn Apple Day events...

Accordingly, Van de Pomme has been woken from slumber, taxed and washed.

The first start up proved difficult. Investigation under the bonnet revealed air in the fuel line. The old fuel primer bulb turned out to be the culprit. The body had hardened over time and developed a crack on its upper surface. After fitting a new primer bulb, adding in an extra in-line filter and bleeding the system, the engine fired up just fine.

After a check of the lights and some fresh air put in the tyres,Van de Pomme was taken out for some exercise. The shakedown drive went well and everything functioned as it should. It was nice to be driving it again.

It is the Citroen Car Club's Chevrons Rally this weekend in nearby Little Horwood, so now there should be at least one C15 there...

There were three C15s at the Chevrons Rally yesterday. One (RHS of photo) was a French long wheelbase version, with rear seats. It lives in Scotland and came down for the occasion.

The other two, including mine,  (centre) were the now-rare 'Club' editions. These had nicer seats than standard, with much more padding, full headrests and pleasant, 'chevron' patterned tweedcloth covers. They had matching external decals and interior trim too.

The LWB van sports its original French number plate alongside the UK version. My UK van has the bonus 'Van Damme' decal instead...

Three white C15s in a row made it look like a day out for a motor parts supplier!

Had a good run down the A487, A470 and A458 into Powys today up into the boondocks beyond Newtown to go and pick up a log burner.

IMG_20251004_173935.jpg.83435e67ffb47a23ebc376abd32d6c8b.jpg

Minging weather for the journey down with the tail end of Storm Amy bringing torrential rain and squalls but a combination of those wiggly A roads, the van's furnace-like heater and the great sound system @dean36014 installed made it a cosy and enjoyable drive. With only a little over 60hp to play with it's all about momentum and only losing the minimum of speed for corners and timing overtakes carefully. I don't want to jinx things but at the moment it seems to be mechanically bob on, I appreciated the work I did on the brakes before Merdefest and the Rainsport tyres recently fitted in the wet conditions today. With the Electric Boogaloo van filling daily duties the C15 had stood for a few weeks so it was good to give it a decent run today. I'll try and avoid salty roads as much as possible this winter although the C15 will still be called upon for longer journeys so I must do some paint touch ups and coat the underneath in sheep juice before the gritters come out.

The rain eased up on the way back  so I decided to head down to the beach to give the dog a run. Rather pleased with this shot I got of the van at Dinas Dinlle.

Glad I spotted this. I have a bit of a soft spot.for C15's but haven't owned one yet...

I also devote an inordinate amount of my time to pondering the mental state of people that own and use C15 Romahomes. Am I supposed to hug them or run?

Great pic at the end there! Sounds an eventful but fruitful day. Hope the wood burner is in good nick and doesn't take too much re-commissioning. Good to see the C15 performing well.
