I spent many many weekends and summers in Hastings in the 1970s as we had a static caravan in a park near Battle. We used to go to the chip shop that was on the corner opposite the car park for our tea.

We used to go to an Italian ice cream place further along for Knickerbocker glories.

I saw a shark washed up by those fisherman’s huts. It was probably about 2-3 foot long but seemed huge as I was only about 7 at the time. There was a big crowd there , must have been the most excitement in Hastings since 1066.

Sierra Base! Sadly with painted grille. All Suffolk Police I imagine, they always did favour Ford back then.

I suspect that photo is taken on the old skidpad at Martlesham Heath. I think they've built another facility on it now, but I went on it a couple of times in the '90s with the local IAM group and my dad did the same some years beforehand:

Don’t remember ever seeing a  police cortina. Traffic cars went from Z cars , Rover 3500 P6 and SD1, onto Granadas , then Volvos , then BMWs.

Local cars I remember as BMC 1100, Allegros, Mk2 Escort, Metros, Astras diesels later, now wide range of small hatch backs, lots of Peugeots.

In the early 1980's Kent Police used dark blue MkV Cortina Estates around Tunbridge Wells.
