Great stuff.  Are you tempted to keep it now?  Does it need any more welding?

Don't think it needs any more, maybe a tiny hole in the boot floor, but the main issues are the carburettor and brakes.

I'm sick of the sight of it tbh. 😕

Shame but the work you've done has helped ensure its survival : )

That is a fantastic job for a first time welder. I am very impressed. Brakes and carbs will be easy after sill fabricator  and welding.

Wash your mouth out. Surely a VW Tdi is the only diesel this needs. 🤣

Kept meaning to have a proper look through this thread after seeing it for sale, bloody admirable work you're doing.

Sidenote: still trying to convince myself this wouldn't look beautiful alongside the Twingo.

Good stuff, liking the fab work on the sills. Sometimes it's best to have a little break before getting stuck into other jobs, which I why I always have a list of jobs I need to do!

Urgh. I hate this part.

That's the best bit! Be sure to do it in a small, poorly ventilated room for a maximum high.

I love rebuilding carbs. Have to say my favourite for simplicity is probably the SU.

I've got 3 SUs from the 60s that are in bits and haven't been run for around 25 years.

Just when you're ready, ta. 🤣

I used to hate messing with carbs too, but having stripped and rebuilt the one on the Spacy about half a dozen times now I don't mind them so much.

Long way to go to rebuild some carbs. Maybe next time I'm mad enough to take the Montego to the top of Scotland 😂

Typically, the rebuild kits for the Solex 32 BIS are stupidly expensive! FFS.

It does seem ridiculous that a few gaskets, o-rings, springs and bushes cost more than a tenner!  The SU rebuild kits I've been looking at are around £70.... PER CARB.

I'd settle just for the main gasket, but can't seem to find it alone. It's actually fine, but I need to take it off to get to the float bowl and I'm scared it will tear

Could you make one from paper if that's the only part you need?
