Could you make one from paper if that's the only part you need?

I could, I even have gasket paper, but they never seem to come out right.

Aha! Took the 'BIS' out of the search and looked for one that was close....

For what it's worth: The '89 323 carb rebuild you did is still going strong, not sure if that was with home made gaskets or not though. :) (Car is currently hibernating to keep it off of winter salt/snow)

Ooh, I'd forgotten about that.

I'm building quite a record of rescuing hopeless cars 😁

That's nice to hear,My first "decent" car was an '89 323 hatch,so I have a soft spot for them.

The Carina is still looking very smart thanks to the painted wheels and grille!

That's what this forum is all about.  Or used to be.

If you're not frustrated and swearing into the void of the job you're currently wedged in, unable to feel your fingers, rain/weld going in your ear, are you even Autoshiting?  The abject misery is all part of the experience.  That and (usually) hasslefree purchases and sales of sub-£1000 crocks that nobody in their right mind would rescue, let alone daily.  It's still a better experience than having to attend a PCP Grief Hole (tm).  Thank you to the shiter that put that phrase into my lexicon!

Yeah, I was Pandamonium. I tend to steer clear of PH, why?

Carb back on and it fired up first time.

I reckon the smokiness is to due with a previous owner having poured oil down the bores to keep it from seizing maybe?

Quite possibly. Old petrol, condensation etc. will do stuff like that too.

Top stuff sir!  I should think you need a lie down after fixing that.  Go on then, what's next on your project list?

Well, the long term plan is to sell both the AX and the 309 and get something with 4/5 doors next.

I kinda want a Peugeot 306 diesel I think.

But I'll probably revert to type and end up with something Japanese 🤣
