If you're a fashion conscious chap, you can equip your whip with a set of these tasty chrome spinner hub caps.

I think the Datsun 120Y trims are distinctive, not sure they'd work on anything else though

I’ve just noticed the edit. That’s it, I’m off the booze for this evening.

It’s Friday, I’ll let you off with a stern “pass me a beer” 😂

I really like these Saab 9000 trims. Can't remember the last time I saw a set on a car but they're very like Moon discs but with holes

I’m more of a hubcap guy, but these trims transformed my E28 compared to the ‘caps.

There was/is a set of these displayed in the Victoria & Albert museum…

But these things on LTI London cabs are just the absolute pits. Inexcusably shit.

Citroen BX have a strong style of wheel trims. I actually like most on here so far except the aftermarket ones. Maybe this tread could evolve to include "trims you thought were alloys" type thread. A couple of examples here have caught me out.

And I love how these trims complement the shape of the car.

I've always liked the FD Victor hubcaps

likewise I've always loved some of Subaru's trims in the 1980's

Yes, they were really effective and different. LTI trims more function than fashion.

me, a person who is weird

i have a thing for wheel trims

so perhaps my favourite is these off the Rover R8 models

i remember being 3 years old and seeing a red rover 400 (418 if i recall) with these trims and i fell in love

image.png.b5bab81cb1d44ff5ec7d6ad6d5a55979.png

so, i also remember my grandad's Citroen ZX 1.9 TD avantage (K370 BHN) having these trims, they were wonderful, again up there with my favourites

what's always a good bet is the xsara picasso, now, facelift or pre facelift is the question, i love both, lovely trims and feel solid

my uncle had an L reg cavalier 1.8 auto if i recall as a kid, it had these wheel trims, which i absolutely adored (the rear wiper on those was amazing too!)

now, i'm not 100% if they were the correct ones but they are the ones 4 year old me recall the car having

VAUXHALL CAVALIER 14" Wheel Trims Hubcaps X2 Pair - £7.95 | PicClick UK

XM wheel trims as mentioned earlier in the thread are absolutely beautiful!

same with the synergie ones

also remember on a neighbouring street in the mid 2000s was a red espero

it had these trims, which i also loved

in my personal opinion 80s-mid 2000s citroen had some wonderful designs

it really does seem that modern wheel trims are quite poor

however, i got extremely excited to see a pretty much new toyota prius with wheel trims recently! wonderful!

But trims have no function, they do nothing at all but change appearance they are only fashion.

Aerodynamics. Also keep the steelies cleaner. Bonus if they look good/sell product, even on a LTI.

Some of my favourite hubcaps can be found on Holdens.

HZ Kingswood SL, I had one of these when I was a kid that I picked up from the side of the road.

VN-VP Commodore Base, the whole package here is just delicious, but would need to be the wagon with column shift and front bench seat.

These (and the similar but plainer Rover P6 ones) were often found on camper vans (early Transits, Sherpas etc) and caravans in the early 80s. I guess a good set was probably liberated from every Zodiac/Corsair 2000E that ended up in a breaker’s yard.

Triumph PI ‘fake rostyles’ also a favourite. Never really understood why Triumph didn’t just fit proper Rostyles as the PI was hardly a cheap model.
Maybe it was a Triumph vs Rover thing - Rover used the real thing on their P5.

The aforementioned Rover P6 trims, these are more different to the Zodiac ones than I remember. Again, often fitted to any car with the same size wheels in the 1970s as a low cost upgrade to steels.

I know my username may suggest some bias, but one of my fave trim designs are the plughole looking ones you got on a Mk1 Mondeo GLX

Yes! I had forgotten about those.

The CX came with a few really nice trims but these were my favourites.

They do suit the retro looks of the car though.

Yep. Both styles are the same underneath.

Style 21 throwing stars - that's what I had on my 635 in its last few years. 8×17 all round. They looked great but, on reflection, didn't give much room for the greatest ride quality....

I didn’t like those when I was young and 120Y Datsuns were commonplace.

Certainly nicer than these, which look like the foil tray a supermarket quiche comes in.

Again another disposable foil tray effort wheel trim, this time for a truck.

I much prefer these just to protect the wheel nuts and other vehicles for damage

even better on 10-stud alloys
